I’m always in favor of a formal given name. It just leaves a kid with more options. I adore [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] but I’ve known people who “grew out of” the nickname or found it too infantile. While that’s definitely not true for everyone, I’d rather leave a person with as many options as possibly. Most of us have names we didn’t pick ourselves, so having the ability to manipulate that name can be an important part of self identity.

[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]! I like that it’s old-fashioned and quirky. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is one of my favorites.

I vastly prefer [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but I also agree that having a full name could offer a kid more options! It could also give her the nickname [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], if she wanted to go by something different with friends.

I much prefer [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], especially if this is what you intend to call her anyway.

If you wanted to use a more formal name but not crazy about [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], how about [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]? You could still use [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as a nn.

I like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] but don’t like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f], and I absolutely love [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. I do agree with PP about a more formal full name being advisable, and if you yourself like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] you should use it, but [name_u]Winter[/name_u] or [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] could also work as full names for [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. You could also use [name_f]Winona[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] or [name_u]Winter[/name_u] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f].

What about [name_f]Winona[/name_f] or [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]?
