Both look like typos of [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. If I had to choose one of your options, it would be Winrie but I would suggest using [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] as the proper, given name.
I think that you should just go with [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] if you like that nickname, to be honest. Winry/Winrie just invites a lot of confusion.
However, if that is what you are set on, I personally prefer the Winry spelling, though neither aesthetically pleasing to me.
I think Winry is adorable and she’s a great character. I typically prefer IE over a Y, but here I think Winry looks nicer.
I definitely Prefer the spelling Winry. I don’t think it will be mispronounced and Winrie looks made up. I normally go for ie endings but the y definitely looks better in this case.
I think Winry looks more like Winery or Wintry than the -ie spelling (that’s how I read it at first and had to do a double-take), so I’d go for Winrie. But I’d have to say I’m not a huge fan of the name and would go for [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] over either, especially if that’s what she will be called, anyway. I’m not familiar with the character and don’t understand what you mean by the “neediness” of it - that doesn’t sound like a positive thing, to me. Since I’m completely unfamiliar with the name it sounds made up to me, which I don’t care for. It has a pretty enough sound, but I think, like you suggested, it would invite confusion in both pronunciation and spelling.
I’ve never heard the name Winry/Winrie before, but it is pretty! Actually, I find it prettier than [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], though [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is cute, too! [name_m]Reading[/name_m] quickly, Winry could be mistaken for “wintry” and Winrie for “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”. The fact that “Winrie” is slightly longer makes it easier for me to read, though. I think the extra letter gives the eye a millisecond longer to read and understand the name, if that makes sense.
I normally don’t like names that seem made up, but this is a pretty one and if it is the name you both love, I think you should use it! My vote is for the “Winrie” spelling.
Best of luck!
I think Winrie looks nicer but then again I am partial to ie ending names.
Ditto. Exactly my thoughts. Sorry.
Winry! The spelling is no more confusing than Winrie to me (which I think looks a lot like [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] at a glance) and I think it looks a lot more tailored and mature.
Very nice choice!
I think it would be better to use a name like [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Winnifred[/name_f], or [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] and use Winry as a nickname.
