Winston, Otis, Lucien, Rex and Mercer

Some boys names that are on my mind. What does everyone think of [name]Winston[/name], [name]Otis[/name], [name]Lucien[/name], [name]Rex[/name] and [name]Mercer[/name]? Not necessarily together, but individually. Any suggestions of names that are similar in feel to these names? Thanks friends!

[name]Winston[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] (it’s a family name)!
[name]Otis[/name]: Like it, not sure I’d use it myself
[name]Lucien[/name]: Super cool
[name]Rex[/name]: Not my favorite
[name]Mercer[/name]: OK

Some others you may like:

[name]Cassius[/name] (nn [name]Cash[/name]?)

[name]Winston[/name]- I have mixed feelings on this one. On one hand I see a cute little boy with glasses and a sweater vest that’s just adorable! On the other hand I see a cute little boy with glasses and a sweater vest getting a swirly from the school bully…

[name]Otis[/name]- In theory I love this name, but when I say it out loud I automatically think of odor

[name]Lucien[/name]- [name]Love[/name] love love this name!

[name]Rex[/name]- This is the boy giving the swirly, or perhaps his dog

[name]Mercer[/name]- Again mixed feelings, on one hand it reminds me of the name [name]Mercy[/name] which I love, on the other it reminds me of mercenary and of course someone selling textiles and merchandise, but I guess if [name]Gardner[/name], [name]Shepherd[/name], [name]Bauer[/name], [name]Archer[/name] etc. can all be considered names why not [name]Mercer[/name]?

[name]Winston[/name]: seems very proper/upperclass and British to me (probably because of [name]Churchill[/name]), but that being said, the only “real” [name]Winston[/name] I know is an [name]African[/name] American, 200 lbs of muscle, [name]West[/name] Point army grad, who is currently a high school english teacher. He also goes by “[name]Trey[/name]” (he’s the III). So, take that for what it’s worth… (maybe that [name]Winston[/name] is a strong, but compassionate name?)

[name]Otis[/name]: think of [name]Redding[/name], and Sitting by the [name]Dock[/name] of the [name]Bay[/name] (which I [name]LOVE[/name]). It’s a very cute name, and I think it’s definitely keeping in the current trend without being too popular (wasn’t in US top 1000 last year)

[name]Lucien[/name]: I like this name, but as I mentioned on another post, I associate it with the vampire epidemic because many of the main characters are named [name]Lucien[/name]. So, I think of it as being very intense, almost goth-y.

[name]Rex[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rex[/name] (it’s one of my top 10 names), but many people still associate it with a dog’s name (although, I have never met a dog named [name]Rex[/name], I have met many dogs with “real” people names). Hopefully, with [name]Max[/name] being so popular, [name]Rex[/name] will also become less associated with canines. It’s also relatively popular overall, but not so much that you’ll run into 3 others in preschool.

[name]Mercer[/name]: I like this one, too, although I’ve never met anyone named [name]Mercer[/name]. Perhaps keeping with the last names as first names trend?

Overall, I’d go with [name]Otis[/name] or [name]Rex[/name]!

I’m very excited to see [name]Otis[/name] on your list. For a rather silly reason, my family has nicknamed my baby-on-the-way [name]Otis[/name], and it’s really stuck. I don’t see my own husband ever going for it, and I’m not quite sure I’m brave enough anyway, but if you are, I think it would be an awesome choice.

[name]Winston[/name] - I like the [name]Churchill[/name] association, but otherwise I’m not particularly keen on the name.
[name]Otis[/name] - I would love to see [name]Otis[/name] on a little boy. Having said that, it will age well too.
[name]Lucien[/name] - I don’t mind it, but it seems a little cold. Some of your other names have much more heart.
[name]Rex[/name] - I quite like [name]Rex[/name]. Handsome & regal.
[name]Mercer[/name] - I really like the music association, but prefer some of your other names.

[name]Otis[/name] is my favourite from your list, followed by [name]Rex[/name].
Good luck!
