I really like the name [name]Wolf[/name] / [name]Wolfe[/name] for a boy, however in a Name Game I recently played on this site I named a daughter [name]Wolf[/name] with the nickname “Wolfie” and surprised myself at how much I liked it. Is it too cute to work in real life. Unusable on a girl? Or unusable altogether on either gender? (Also [name]Wolf[/name] or [name]Wolfe[/name]? Leaning towards [name]Wolfe[/name] because it seems more femimine). Thanks
I see it more as a nickname/pet name for a child. As a first name (for either gender) is a little too weird.
There’s Ylva (“YOOL-vah”) Old Norse, means “she-wolf” apparently.
I like [name]Wolf[/name]/[name]Wolfe[/name] in the middle spot for a girl. You could still get away w/[name]Wolf[/name] or Wolfie as a nick. But as a first name, no.
[name]Melody[/name], [name]Georgina[/name], and [name]Wolf[/name]? Hm.
I’ve always liked the name Wallenda (as in The Flying Wallendas!) It could almost work as a full name for Wolfie, especially with the right F middle name.
For something eccentric:
Wallenda [name]Fedora[/name]
Wallenda [name]Fortunata[/name]
Wallenda [name]Flora[/name]
I don’t care for it for either sex but especially not for a girl. Sorry.
I think the best bet for using [name]Wolf[/name] would be choosing a name where you can use [name]Wolf[/name] as the nickname. Wilhemina? [name]Wolcott[/name]? I also for some reason really like [name]Wolf[/name] spelled [name]Wolfe[/name] better.
Keep in mind that some people cannot pronounce the l in wolf…they say woof, which is also an insult that gets directed at women.
I love the name [name]Wolf[/name]. It was a top contender for my son, but we ended up using it as a middle name because of people’s reactions to it. People either REALLY loved it or REALLY hated it. It kind of makes me sad, because I love it that much. I still have [name]Wolfgang[/name] on my list for my next, but probably won’t use it since [name]Wolf[/name] is [name]Luther[/name]'s middle name.
That being said, one of the reasons I love [name]Wolf[/name] is because it seems very masculine and strong. I would have a very hard time picturing it on a little girl or a woman. My opinion is no, it is not a good idea. But at the same time, if I ever met a woman named [name]Wolf[/name] I would be tickled pink. lol I am torn on it, I guess.
It sounds like the punch line to a bad joke, honestly.
I know [name]Wolf[/name] should be unisex but it’s SOOO manly I just can’t see it for a girl.
ETA: [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Channing[/name] or [name]Phelan[/name]? They’re on my list because they mean wolf
Yeah… [name]Wolf[/name] is way too manly sounding for a girl.
[name]Wolf[/name] is so desperately unfeminine! Not that girls’ names have to be frilly, but this is going way too far in the other direction.
Horrible for either sex.
I have [name]Wolfgang[/name] on my top ten list (it’s also my dad’s name and he goes by [name]Wolf[/name]).
So I have a hard time seeing it on a girl - though I guess [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Wolf[/name] (yes I know it’s her last name),
does make it sound kind of fun and familiar as a mn.
[name]Just[/name] a thought, inspired by the idea of Ylva. I’d be worried someone would decide that a female wolf is a bitch (instead of a she-wolf) and then turn that into a really nasty nn.
[name]Wolf[/name] should technically be unisex, but it just isn’t. I’m not that big of a fan of [name]Wolf[/name] on a boy, and I especially don’t like it on a girl. Wolves are very masculine animals in my mind, so no…
[name]Wolfe[/name] with the E is a surname and that is just so, so masculine, no way for a girl.
[name]Wolf[/name], as in the animal, is technically unisex, but I would really be [name]PO[/name]'d if my mom gave me wolf as a name.
Maybe it “should” be unisex, because it’s an animal, but there is nothing feminine about [name]Wolf[/name]. So no, I can’t see it on a girl.
I am not a fan of [name]Wolfe[/name] for a girl. It sounds really masculine; the connotations of the name to me are masculine. It’s a name that I think could be hard to have growing up. I could see people howling at your daughter. It would take some thick skin I think. I do think the name looks pretty on paper though when it’s typed out. And I like the association with [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Wolfe[/name].
I’m not sure about [name]Channing[/name] - it’s pretty trendy. And I’ve no idea how to pronounce [name]Phelan[/name] but I first thought of phlegm which isn’t exactly a nice association aha.
I don’t consider [name]Channing[/name] trendy. It got a boost because of [name]Channing[/name] [name]Tatum[/name] but it’s been around for some time under the radar. For a girl it’s never made the top 1,000
[name]Phelan[/name] is “fay-lyn”
Please don’t… It’s really bloody awful!!!
