[name_m]Wolf[/name_m] to me is all boy as a name. I don’t have a problem with it as a name but only on a boy.
Thank you sweekune :)I definitly can understand your point of view but since its an animal , i consider it unisex .
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is alright for a boy. I get very masculine images when I hear the name. I also knew a little toddler boy named Wolfie/[name_m]Wolf[/name_m] which was a nickname for [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]. So I have a hard time picturing it on a girl.
For a girl, I think it is bad. For a boy I like it much more. It’s not my favorite, but i agree with pp, it’s all boy for me.
I don’t like it on a girl. On a boy, it is fabulous.
Thank you all guys for your opinions !!
ilayali : In Greece its completly unusable either on boy or girl so now its only on my dreams
I like it as a nn for [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m], but never for a girl.
I don’t mind it, although I feel like its a better fit for a boy despite being a word name. Last year I had a guy named [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] in one of my classes. =]
I think it’s a bad name personally, but I don’t see why a little girl couldn’t wear it just as well as a boy. If you love it, more power to you!
I just don’t understand it as a name. I could see it on a girl in writing, but not speaking it. The sound is just awkward in my mouth, and i can’t imagine someone (boy or girl) saying the phrase “Hello, my name is [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].” It just doesn’t sound right, you know? Maybe it’s the fact that it’s such a short sound, or the lack of a hard letter in it? I think this is better saved for a middle or a fictional character.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m], for example, works. But like “hey, nice to meet you, I’m [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] [name_m]Jones[/name_m]” just sounds bizarre.
I think [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is cute. I would assume it was a little boy. Though, I don’t see anything wrong with using it on a girl. I would probably use Wolfie or [name_f]Fifi[/name_f] as a nickname for her though.
I’ve always found [name_m]Wolf/name_m to be really harsh and violent. I like animal names (and nicknames!), and my grandmother’s favorite animal is the wolf, but I just can’t help but think of those vicious animals barring their teeth and attacking children and ughhh. I wouldn’t want my name to be [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]. I really don’t see anything appealing about it at all. (Then again, I love [name_m]Fox[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m], which I suppose could be just as vicious…)
ETA: I think technically, it could work on a girl, since it is an animal name, but [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] is an established and longstanding boys’ name. With [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]'s popularity, and [name_m]Wolf[/name_m]'s rising interest for boys, I really don’t see it working well for a girl. It could work, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
I definitely would not name a girl wolf. Not only does it have a manly feel to it, but you just don’t want to name a girl anything that can be turned into dog. It’s just a cruelty waiting to happen.
I love [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] as a middle name for a boy. I think many nature names can be unisex but not all of them. For example, I personally feel [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are all girl.
It does feel very, very masculine to me. I guess it could work as a middle name, but a girl named [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] would be a little bizarre.
[name_m]Wolf[/name_m] is awesome for a boy! However, I would only use it as a middle name. I use it as a middle name for [name_m]Dominic[/name_m].
I think it works just the same on either sex, really. On either one it sounds aggressive and badass. In the novel I’m writing (in my signature is a link to it) the girl main character is named [name_m]Wolf[/name_m].
Personally, I think in real life, it works fine in the middle for a boy or a girl, but there are way better animal names for the first name spot.
You had it with [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], didn’t you? I remember thinking [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] would be fantastic. I like [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] in the middle for a boy or a girl. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of fierceness in a woman. We’re not all daisies and roses.
I’m not as keen on [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] as a first for either gender. I love Wulfric, however.
I want to like it but I just don’t. There is something too dark and aggressive about it. I can’t quite pinpoint it, but it turns me off. I can see using it on a boy, but I wouldn’t use it for a girl. Kids can be cruel… a female wolf is often called a… It’s not an obvious joke, but I don’t think it will be overlooked.
