Woody?

So I’m a [name_u]Brit[/name_u], but I’m currently living in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] (although we will most likely be returning to the UK within the next year). My husband is canadian/british. I really like the name [name_m]Woody[/name_m] and I know that it has been chosen by a couple of lesser known british celebrities for their sons, but the ONLY comment on the nameberry page says ‘totally unusable I’m [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u]’, so I’m keen to know what others think? The only famous woodys I can think of are American! I have met one little [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] here, but I don’t think his parents used a nickname. I really enjoy [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] as a long form, but I have a [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (Ted) already and I really do not want a presidential theme! On the same note, I also love [name_m]Bram[/name_m], but can’t use [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] for the same reason…and [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m] sounds to me like a jam or bread company up north (northern england that is) for some reason?! :joy:
Also, last name is a nature name…would that be too much with [name_m]Woody[/name_m]?!
Really open to suggestions at this point!

My grandpa was [name_m]Edward[/name_m], nicknamed [name_m]Woody[/name_m]. It fit very well. I like it

[name_m]Woody[/name_m] is slang for an erection, albeit not a popularly used one. The only other references I have for it are [name_m]Woody[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] and [name_m]Woody[/name_m] the Cowboy from [name_m]Toy[/name_m] [name_u]Story[/name_u].

Yeah, I personally wouldn’t use it in the U.S. because of the slang (which I hear quite often), but still, I don’t think it’s totally unusable here. [name_m]Woody[/name_m] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] actually makes it more familiar as a name.

But I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the suggestion of [name_m]Edward[/name_m], nn. [name_m]Woody[/name_m]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] make a great set!

Thanks for the replies!
I’m aware of the slang connotations but I was thinking/hoping that it has become more usuable since there are celebrities named it and there is also [name_m]Toy[/name_m] [name_u]Story[/name_u] lol. I have never actually heard it used as slang but I’m aware that it is sometimes.
My husband loves the name [name_m]Peter[/name_m], but I can’t help but think of it as childish slang for ‘penis’ ”
As for [name_m]Edward[/name_m], it’s a family name, but I think I would run the risk of ending up with a Ted and an [name_m]Ed[/name_m]!

I went to school with a [name_m]Woody[/name_m], but he was also very tall and brawny. Not the sort you’d tease about his name.
