So you all were really helpful in my last post about naming our second daughter (first is Felicity) in clarifying some things for us and helping us narrow down our list. I made a similar post in another forum and someone suggested Sylvie, and I am LOVING it. For some reason I had only thought of Sylvia before and liked it but just wasn’t as drawn to it, but Sylvie feels like it solves the issues I had with Sylvia and I’m really excited about it. I also just think it goes perfectly with Felicity. My husband is also on board (!). So we narrowed our shortlist to Sylvie, Ramona, or Bridget, but are strongly leaning towards Sylvie.
So now we’ve started trying to come up with middles for it. We like the idea of word names - we both have background in English academia and the fact that Felicity is an English word was a big part of what we loved about it. But we don’t love the idea of purely nature word names (botanical etc.), just because Sylvie already has a nature meaning and that feels redundant. Virtue names mostly don’t work because so many of the nice ones (Amity, Verity, Clarity) end in the -ee sound, which is also repetitive with Sylvie. That leaves us with seasonal names, month names, place names, animal names, or other types of word names. Here’s what we’ve come up with so far:
These are a little more traditional but they each have some sort of personal meaning to us. We do like that middles are a place where you can be a little more unconventional, too. Can you help us think of more possibilities, and/or let me know if you like any of the above?
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]! I think it works perfectly with big sister [name_f]Felicity[/name_f]. I’m seconding [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u], and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Lark[/name_u], but how about:
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Constance[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Valor[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Scout[/name_u] (not sure how you feel about alliteration, but this ties into both being a word and To Kill A Mockingbird!)
(If you’re willing to go for something a bit more out-there, I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Afternoon[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Wildflower[/name_f] would be absolutely darling! )
I really like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]!
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Calico[/name_f] is pretty cool, I love the creativity! I do like the idea of bird names, too - my husband has an affinity for birds. We actually went to Greece for our honeymoon and so that makes me think that [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] is a nice idea! And we live very close to [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] and my husband wanted to take a quick day trip there just because he thought the name was so beautiful and sounded poetic. But it was very underwhelming so I don’t think we could go with that, ha. Thank you!
Yeah the resonance with [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is a big appeal of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] for me! [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] has always been more of my favorite, though, so my husband goes back and forth on it. Thanks for the suggestions!
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Ocean[/name_u]! When I was a kid I was determined to name my kid [name_u]Ocean[/name_u], so that would be living the dream! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband might like that one. Thanks!
I really like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Haven[/name_u] Some other ideas:
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is one of my absolute favorite names!!
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Love[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_m]Hill[/name_m]
I second [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] as mn!
I am loving [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] Blythe!!! [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] is also lovely
Trying to think of word names that aren’t purely botanical or could have multiple meanings…
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Kit[/name_u] - from [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] or some baby animals are called kits
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Ochre[/name_u] - clay and a color
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Morning[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] Mist
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] Maryland
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] - I like gem names that also have a color attached
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Garnet[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]July[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Poet[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] Prose
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Lyric[/name_u]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Ireland[/name_u] - not everyone’s cup of tea but I’m Irish and I love this
