Worried about 50 Shades Popularity!

[name]Do[/name] you think the name [name]Grey[/name] for a boy is going to rise in popularity due to the 50 Shades of [name]Grey[/name] book series? I like it as a middle name as well but do you think [name]Greyson[/name]/[name]Grayson[/name] and all variants will be too popular? I hope not because I love the name [name]Grey[/name]!

I think [name]Greyson[/name] is getting popular in general. My cousin has picked that to the name for her baby if it’s a boy. I don’t think it has anything to do with the book since the book isn’t “that” popular. It’s not like [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]. Plus the character’s name is [name]Christen[/name] [name]Grey[/name] and it’s a girl I think…

I agree with catloverd, it was already gaining and the 50 Shades series will encourage it. I personally know 3 [name]Grey[/name]-somethings between the ages of 2 and 5.

@catloverd - Actually, [name]Christian[/name] [name]Grey[/name] is the main [name]MALE[/name] character and the Shades trilogy is HUGELY popular (all three books have been on the bestseller lists here in [name]Canada[/name] for weeks now and Hollywood is already casting for the film version). Since [name]Greyson[/name]/[name]Grayson[/name] are getting popular and colour names are rising too, the surname of this character will surely give it another boost.

Well it’s not hugely popular where I live! I live in the U.S. and I never even heard of the book until a few days ago. And what I’ve read, it’s actually not that great and it’s hugely criticized, so I don’t plan to read it. I only know one person among my friends who is reading the series, so yeah, it’s not like [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]… but the character is kind of an abusive jerk (just from what I’ve heard) so I don’t think the name will get popular from that…

I would actually avoid the name after hearing it relates to “that” kind of a character…

I wouldn’t have made the connection, but I will agree it’s getting popular.

[name]Grey[/name] and [name]Greyson[/name] and color names in general are getting popular. From what the Today show said, and from the many people I know who have read it, it’s mostly a BDSM porn book, so I can’t see why someone would pick a name out of a porn book for their baby.

I think [name]Grey[/name]/[name]Greyson[/name] is getting popular on it’s own, but I wouldn’t worry about it.

I have been thinking about this so much lately…as I had [name]Greyson[/name]/[name]Grayson[/name] as my #1 name…until I heard that 4 other women right now are expecting boys they are naming [name]Grayson[/name].

At this point…it is too trendy for my taste and too popular. And unfortunately, when a name is trendy (based on a movie, book, a color) it tends to date the name…which some people may like, but personally I don’t.

It is a nice name though… and people like it!

I agree the “grey” names are just popular in general right now unrelated to the book… I loved greyson when I was preggers but it was/is just too trendy right now…

I think the name [name]Grayson[/name]/[name]Greyson[/name] has just been on the rise in general. Nothing to do with the book. If you love [name]Grey[/name], I wouldn’t let what is basically the [name]McDonald[/name]'s equivalent of erotica stop you from using it. By next summer, some new trendy item will be all the rage and 50 Shades of [name]Grey[/name] will be in the bargain bin.

The [name]Gray[/name]/[name]Grey[/name] names are getting popular in general. I can’t imagine why anyone would name their child after a porn book…
