Worried what people will think but here we go

I know, I shouldn’t worry about what everyone else will think. But I can’t help it.

For the most part, I like really traditional and classic names. However, my husband and I are expecting our second child (due in [name]January[/name], so we do not know the gender yet) and the name we both love for a boy is rather unique (to the point where I’ve never heard it used as a first name before).

The name (first and middle) has meaning behind it (family significance) and my husband is set on this name. I love it too, but I would love to get some opinions on it as we haven’t told anyone yet.

The name is: [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name]

We have also considered [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] (also a family name) but [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name] is our favorite.

Thoughts?

I like [name]Britton[/name]! Of your two choices, I actually prefer [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name]. It just sounds nicer to me than [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name]. I don’t think [name]Britton[/name] is too out-there, though if your first child’s name is something like [name]Sophia[/name] or [name]Jacob[/name], it might stand out a bit. To me, [name]Britton[/name] seems to fit in with a lot of popular boy names without being popular itself, so I don’t think it’s going to sound out of place in a classroom or playground.

I went to school with a boy named [name]Britton[/name]! He stood out in a class of Johns and Michaels and Joshuas, and in my opinion that’s a good thing  If he doesn’t like his first he can always go by the more traditional [name]William[/name] (or [name]James[/name]). Be brave, my friend!

I actually know two [name]Britton[/name]/Bryttons  They both go by [name]Britt[/name] though. I quite like it, but I guess I don’t think it as “unique” since I know some.

I prefer [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] though. [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name] just reminds me of [name]Britain[/name] and [name]Prince[/name] [name]William[/name].

I think it’s cute. It sounds traditional/classic without being uber popular.

I actually like it (although it’s not a name I think I would). I think most people will be able to remember it (a bonus for sure) and pronounce it. I like that you are going with traditional names for middle names. I think it’s nice to give people options. I like the balance a more unusual partnered with more traditional name.

I think [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name] is a great choice! I have only seen its used on a girl before but I would definitely work fine on a boy as well.

I think it’s lovely, my only concern would be that it sounds like it could be a trendy girl’s name these days…also the tie to [name]Britt[/name] as a nn for [name]Brittany[/name]. And, some people may spell it like [name]Britain[/name].

However, the -on ending is more common for boys names these days, I think. Also, I think I’ve heard of one boy [name]Britton[/name] before.

And if you have strong personal reasons and family connections to use it, I wouldn’t be concerned about it. I like it partnered with a traditional [name]William[/name] or [name]James[/name].

I have heard of it before (in books about 1960s photography/ fashion) and I like it. I like [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] best.

I agree with this.

A [name]Briton[/name] is someone from [name]Britain[/name]. It would be like calling your son American or Mexican.

It’s not my style, but its ok. I quite like the nn [name]Brit[/name] for a boy. Yes it is kind of like calling your kid [name]Britain[/name] but that’s no weirder than calling your kid [name]North[/name] or [name]August[/name].

I prefer [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] though. For me it flows a little better. But [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name] is still nice.

[name]Britton[/name] is a fine name - I see no problems using it. Like others, I prefer [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] but [name]Britton[/name] Willima is fine.

[name]Britton[/name] is great! Between [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name] and [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name], I am leaning towards [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name]. (I have a soft spot for the name [name]James[/name]). I had a babysitter named [name]Britton[/name] growing up, he was a great guy and without a doubt grew up to be a fantastic father and husband. [name]Don[/name]'t be afraid what others think, whether it be [name]Britton[/name] [name]William[/name] or [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name], both are very nice names.

I don’t think [name]Britton[/name] is too out there, I like it. I like either middle name!

I like [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] most. I think it’s a great name that will be unique without being too out there. I normally like traditional names for boys, but [name]Britton[/name] is great!

My former boss’s son’s name is [name]Britton[/name] and he is an all-around American kid - nice, friendly, athletic, good-looking, etc. I think it’s a great name and I would definitely encourage you to use it!

Thank you all SO much!!

My friend actually considered [name]Britton[/name] for her son. She decided against it because, like other posters said, she didn’t want people to call him [name]Britt[/name] or confuse it with a surname/girl’s name. I think it is nice. I guess it boils down to if you really love it.

The surname could sway if, but I [name]Britton[/name] [name]James[/name] as far as syllable balance.
