Worry wheel has been spinning too long!

We are expecting our 2nd child in as little as 2 months, and after MONTHS of sifting through blogs, forums, databases, and general lists of name after name (thousands), we have a couple names, [name]ONE[/name] for each sex. We do not know if we are having a boy or a girl, we have one daughter whom we named [name]Jazmine[/name]; her name came readily and as soon as it touched my husbands ears, he was settled. I feel desensitized by most names, or that I/we have heard them at least once or 20x before, and some of them we loved, but knew deep down, it just wasn’t “us”.

Our boys name pick is Draiven.

Our girls name pick is Emberlin.

That is it. I felt in love with these names for months (husband is settled!) and then I suddenly felt unsure about them and that they were somehow wrong or unfitting. I feel like we have settled! :frowning: Why? I fear his name may be too far out there, and after searching and searching, it was THEE only one we both jumped at.

Emberlin, well, I saw it and just fell in [name]LOVE[/name] with it, until I realized we would probably call her [name]Ember[/name] (the part of the name we love) and said it with our last name; [name]Ember[/name] [name]Berg***[/name]… doesn’t sound BAD, but I worry it’s a garble.

We have found no other boys names we can agree on, I do like [name]Korbin[/name] or Korvin, but husband hasn’t said yay or nay, he was just “listening” to me ramble  [name]One[/name] other girl name we briefly considered was [name]Janessa[/name]. He likes [name]Phoebe[/name]; I do not, but I found a possible compromise with, [name]Sephora[/name]. We do use short names in our house, but can’t think of one for [name]Sephora[/name].

If you have any thoughts or something to contribute, feel free! Otherwise, thank you for just letting me rant my worries out of my head!!!

The problem I see with Draiven is that the spelling and pronounciation won’t come easily to people and I don’t think it works with your last name or your current daughter’s name.

Emberlin isn’t my style but it has a sweetness to it, I can see it working with [name]Jazmine[/name], however keep in mind they both have the same sound ending. You’re right that [name]Ember[/name] doesn’t sound quite right with [name]Berg[/name]. [name]Sephora[/name] is lovely, I knew a girl with this name and she went by Saffy and [name]Effie[/name].

[name]How[/name] about:

[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Lazaro[/name] (the Z sound is a nice match with the Z in [name]Jasmine[/name])
[name]Xavier[/name] (Z sound again)
Skander

[name]Xavier[/name] and [name]Xander[/name] or [name]Zavier[/name]/[name]Zander[/name] were always on my list since I was very little, but husband does not like them! I also threw in [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Quinn[/name], (all no’s) and for a a bit we were set with [name]Lucien[/name], but I didn’t want my proposed son coming home with stories of being called [name]Lucy[/name]! We find it harder to come up with boys names, and when we do, we don’t agree.

All I can think of when you say Emberlin is the band Anberlin which is a cool band so it’s not bad or anything. I like [name]Ember[/name] but I think the lin is kinda unnecessary. [name]Draven[/name] isn’t exactly my style though. What about other names that have the en/in/an ending?

[name]Darion[/name]
[name]Raven[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Caden[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name]
[name]Caspian[/name]
[name]Tyson[/name]
[name]Weston[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]

[name]Sephora[/name] nn. Sephie? It reminds me of make up, but it’s cute. I also like [name]Janessa[/name] - like a combination of [name]Jessica[/name] and [name]Vanessa[/name], but more uncommon. I like Emberlin or [name]Emberly[/name], but do not like [name]Amber[/name] and I would be afraid people would mix them up. I am not a fan of Draiven, but then I would probably use [name]Douglas[/name] as that’s my dad’s name (although the meaning doesn’t sit well with me).

Since you had considered [name]Lucien[/name] for a boy, how about [name]Luca[/name]?

Girls:
[name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] I think this goes well with [name]Jazmine[/name]!
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Casey[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Kinley[/name]
[name]Tenley[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Preslie[/name]
[name]Kaylin[/name]
[name]Nahla[/name]
Brinnon -[name]Brinn[/name]-in -NN [name]Brinn[/name].
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Payton[/name]
[name]Lacey[/name]
Kaesyn -NN [name]Kasey[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name]

Boys;
[name]Kody[/name] -I have cousins who are sibling named [name]Jasmine[/name] and [name]Kody[/name].
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Grayson[/name]
[name]Raiden[/name] -Pronounced [name]Ry[/name]-den. Could change the spelling to Ryden so it’s easier to recognize the pronunciation. Only thing I don’t like is that the possible NN could be [name]Ryder[/name] which I don’t care for, though you might!
[name]Boden[/name] - [name]Bo[/name]-den. I know a little boy named this! NN -[name]Bo[/name]
[name]Ryker[/name] - I know a boy named this and love it! Much better than [name]Ryder[/name] in my opinion.
[name]Jaxton[/name] -Spin on [name]Jackson[/name].
[name]Braxton[/name]

I do like Draiven! It’s cute! Emberlin is nice too!

Thank you for your replies, I appreciate ALL of your input. I just keep jotting things down on a virtual desktop post-it note, and keep editing it as I review it.
So far I have these for preference:

[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Janessa[/name]
[name]Sephora[/name]
[name]Jocelyn[/name]
[name]Jemma[/name]
[name]Fallon[/name]

[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Korbin[/name]/Korven
[name]Kody[/name]
[name]Zander[/name]/[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Carlisle[/name]
[name]Lex[/name]
[name]Ryker[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]

Draiven sounds too dragon-like to me. I actually really like Emberlin in general, but I have a problem with the -ber- sound in both [name]Ember[/name] and [name]Berg[/name].

Draiven alternatives:
[name]Madden[/name]
[name]Maddox[/name]
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Braxton[/name]
[name]Xander[/name]

Emberlin alternatives:
Gracelin (I know a girl with this name, love it)
[name]Emmeline[/name] or anything that has -em in it somewhere
[name]Ember[/name] and call her [name]Emmy[/name], which sounds fine with [name]Berg[/name]
[name]Haven[/name]

Let’s see…

I’ve never heard of the name [name]Draven[/name] before, and although I’m not sure it’s my taste, I think it sounds nice with [name]Jazmine[/name]. It is a little out there, but if you love the name, use it! Here are some alternatives:

[name]Drake[/name]- I think this flows well with [name]Jazmine[/name].
[name]Donovan[/name]- Paired with your surname, [name]Donovan[/name] sounds so handsome.

As for the girls, I agree that Emberlin [name]Berg[/name] doesn’t work. Maybe some other fiery names?

[name]Sephora[/name]- This sounds lovely with [name]Jazmine[/name] and [name]Berg[/name]. I like Sephie as a nickname.
[name]Phoebe[/name]- I know you don’t like this, but it seems like the perfect name for you! It fits with [name]Jazmine[/name] and [name]Berg[/name], it has a glowing sound (like Emberlin), and it’s a gorgeous name.
[name]Lydia[/name]- If you are opposed to [name]Phoebe[/name], use [name]Lydia[/name]! I love everything about this name, and the literary connection. (the precocious [name]Lydia[/name] [name]Bennet[/name])
[name]Daphne[/name]- What’s not to love about [name]Daphne[/name]?
[name]Fiona[/name]- This seems like a great alternative for Emberlin!

Best of luck! And remember to trust your gut!

After much narrowing and harrowing with husband, we came up with names that “feel” better and it is down to either

[name]Sephora[/name]

or

[name]Cyrus[/name]

I am not particular to [name]Cyrus[/name], but I don’t mind it, and it is a family name from husband’s side.
Our daughter even settled on those two names out of the rest of the list.

I much prefer [name]Sephora[/name] or [name]Cyrus[/name] over Emberlin or Draiven. I do like [name]Ember[/name] (not so much with the -lin ending) but not with your surname. Another nn for [name]Sephora[/name] is [name]Ora[/name] which I find adORAble.

[name]Sephora[/name] is a makeup chain (at least where I am), so while it’s pretty I’m not particular to that association. It DOES go with [name]Jazmin[/name] really well though.

[name]Cyrus[/name] is cool. I didn’t like it at first either, but the more I heard it and tried it out, it grew on me. Plus [name]Cy[/name] is a neat nickname.

I really like Emberlin! And I’d use [name]Emmy[/name] as a nickname, not [name]Ember[/name], and [name]Emmy[/name] [name]Berg[/name] sounds fine.

Draiven is also AWESOME, no matter the origin/meaning. It just sounds very classic and kind of dark, like [name]Damien[/name] or [name]Devon[/name], but not so common.

So I like your first two names better, but your second ones go better with [name]Jazmin[/name] as a sibset.

I actually like [name]Sephora[/name] a lot, despite the makeup brand. You could use nicknames [name]Sora[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name] (a bit of a stretch, but I think it’s fine).

[name]Cyrus[/name] is much better than Draiven. Have you considered [name]Draco[/name] or [name]Drake[/name] instead of Draiven?

Husband is as particular as I am, if you were in the same room with us during one of these naming conversations your eyes would pop and roll and you would run out of popcorn  I still have a soft spot for Emberlin and Draiven, but I know they are just not “it”. Especially with our last name. I am not fond of [name]Em[/name], [name]Emma[/name], or [name]Emmy[/name] for nn’s, and any combo I found in Emberlin, just didn’t work for us. Same with Draiven. We do us nn’s so it’s important to us to be able to shorten it for something casual, but I didn’t want a son referred to as “Dre” or [name]Ray[/name]. [name]Janessa[/name] was the same because of nn’s, my Grandma was [name]Janet[/name], [name]Jan[/name], and I don’t want to think of her every time we say our daughter’s nn, also, not fond of Ness, [name]Nessa[/name], or [name]Nessie[/name]! ( I think of [name]Kristen[/name] [name]Stewart[/name]; “you named my daughter after the [name]Loch[/name] Ness monster?”) I have suggested sooo many names to husband, he is just as finicky as I am, looking for something just off the beaten path without a neon sign, perhaps “dark” but I like to think of it as edgy, and strong. Our next revised list was narrowed down so far most suggestions from these pages received a nay from one party or the other, but we took them all and tried them, so thank you to those of you who have contributed to our cause!!! Now, I can’t help but want to change the spelling from [name]Cyrus[/name] to [name]Cyress[/name]. That’s where I can sneak in that “edge” I like, just like the “z” with [name]Jaz[/name]!

After post The only issue I had with “[name]Cy[/name]” was that the shortened name would be “[name]Cy[/name] [name]Berg[/name]” and the first thing I thought of was Cyborg! But hey, there are a LOT worse things I’ve come across, and in any case, with his middle name, I may just end up calling him C.J., who knows…

When I think [name]Cyrus[/name], I think [name]Miley[/name]…

I think that’s what most little girls would think of too. (I teach some young girls, that’s why my mind goes there.)
