I kind of want to ignore the popularity and name this little boy [name]Asher[/name]. But I am worried I would regret giving my son such a popular name. It’s #60 in our State. We love that we don’t know anyone with the name [name]Felix[/name] (our first son) and that he will most likely be the only [name]Felix[/name] in this small town that we live in.
But I just keep coming back to the name! [name]Felix[/name] & [name]Asher[/name]… two happy boys!
What do you think? Should I keep looking, or go back to the name [name]Atticus[/name]?
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Asher[/name], and hate that it’s getting so popular! But, I have lived in 3 different states in the last 6 years and still have not met anyone named [name]Asher[/name], so that makes me feel a little better. I say go for it, [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] sound great together!
[name]Asher[/name] usually isn’t my cup of tea, but it does match great with [name]Felix[/name] and you love it so much that I say go for it! I usually avoid names that are in the top 20, but even then if I really loved a name, I wouldn’t let the popularity bother me ([name]Elizabeth[/name] for example). If it is number 60 in your state, then its not even that popular, and I wouldn’t worry about it.
Honestly, [name]Atticus[/name] sounds way more trendy than [name]Asher[/name] to me. I’ve heard [name]Asher[/name] is getting popular, but I never hear it. I hear [name]Atticus[/name] everywhere, and TBH, [name]Atticus[/name] sounds a little trying-real-hard-to-be-cool to me. [name]Asher[/name] is more low-key and less ostentatious but still goes great with [name]Felix[/name].
I think we might just go for it! Maybe if we paired it with a really cool middle name? I can just picture a little [name]Asher[/name], and I am having trouble picturing any other names. I myself haven’t met any little Ashers, but I know someone who knows someone with a baby named [name]Asher[/name]
I just don’t want [name]Asher[/name] to end up in the top 10!
missusaytch~ That’s really interesting! I have never met or even heard of another [name]Atticus[/name]. But I did just see the name on the cover of Parenting magazine under the title “[name]Baby[/name] Name Trends.” It’s ranked 462nd in popularity, so I never imagined it being “trendy!”
I love it. It’s a great sib-set. Why settle for something you don’t love? It’s so hard to be sure that a name will be popular in your area or at all, for that matter. I never dreamed that my almost six-year-old son would know any other Olivers and as it turns out, there are quite a few. When it all comes down to it, though, I still love the name and knowing what I know now doesn’t change how I feel about it. I’d do it again! I say go with [name]Asher[/name]. You won’t regret it.
I’m getting pretty excited about [name]Felix[/name] & [name]Asher[/name]! My husband just messaged me saying he prefers [name]Atticus[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name]. But I think if I come up with the perfect middle for [name]Asher[/name], that I can still persuade him
I think [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Asher[/name] are a great together. I wouldn’t worry about popularity if its 60. [name]How[/name] many actually children were given the name and how many would potentially associate with your son? I think the popularity lessens in importance when you look at it that way. [name]Asher[/name] is a great name.
I think [name]Asher[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] are two good choices. I personally wouldn’t use such a popular name, but if you love it, then by all means use it! And it does sound great with [name]Felix[/name].
flamingo~ My husband is into science, space, & comic books. He’s basically a nerd! But a cute one Oh, and he also likes names with an “X” in it. [name]Felix[/name]'s middle name is [name]Newton[/name], to give you a sense of our style. I’m finding it very hard to come up with the right middle…
I agree that [name]Atticus[/name] is way more ‘popular’ than [name]Asher[/name]. [name]Asher[/name] is a sweet combo with [name]Felix[/name], but I’m gonna side with your husband - [name]Augustus[/name] is lovely! Think of how sweet [name]Gus[/name] is as a nickname.
I just want to point out that in 2011 there were 3,369 babies named [name]Asher[/name], and only 574 named [name]Atticus[/name] (in the States). [name]Asher[/name] is more popular than [name]Atticus[/name].
So, for some reason [name]Xavier[/name] is the one “X” name he doesn’t like… Though it does sound cool. So, I was looking at stats from my state and [name]Asher[/name] went from not even being in the top 100 in 2009, to #70 in 2010, and #60 in 2011. That’s a pretty drastic rise! Gets me a little scared
I am leaning towards [name]Asher[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name]. I think [name]Atticus[/name] might be out!
arunciblespoon~ I am starting to come around on the nickname [name]Gus[/name]. At first all I could think of was the fat mouse from [name]Cinderella[/name]!
@uselesskitty~ That’s what I was thinking! I think people are maybe talking about “trendiness?” Kind of confuses me… But I have seen [name]Atticus[/name] featured in more than one parenting/pregnancy magazine lately as a name to watch/trendy names.
