…name a child a very religious name like [name]Pascal[/name] or [name]Pascale[/name] when the parent doesn’t follow that religion or really any religion for that matter? What are your thoughts because I really like these names? :-\
No, I think [name]Pascal[/name] and [name]Pascale[/name] are fine, its not like [name]Guadalupe[/name] or Benedictine which are pretty religious to me.
I think it depends on the name. Something like [name]Christos[/name], [name]Mohammed[/name], [name]Brigham[/name], [name]Bishop[/name], or (dare I say it) [name]Cohen[/name] could get controversial in a hurry, but I don’t think [name]Pascal[/name] or [name]Pascale[/name] are going to be upsetting to anyone.
Honestly, when I hear the name [name]Pascal[/name] I think of the little green chameleon from Tangled. I’m not sure if that movie’ll still be a hit when your son is around six, but at least on the religious front it should be fine!
It is completely fine No one will ever know if you follow the religion or not and to me it doesn’t matter. Kids in grade school won’t find anything controversial and adults will probably find it refreshing amidst all of the more trendy names.
No, I don’t think that it would be wrong. I’m not religious and a lot of my favorite names are Biblical. I think I pretty much agree with all of the comments that have already been made in this post.
It doesn’t matter… My middle name is Hispanic and I have Hispanic roots at all
I think I am the odd one out here but I think it would be pretty offensive. I would not pick a name that is associated with a religion I don’t belong to. To me it is as bad as naming your son [name]Darwin[/name] when you don’t believe in Evolution. Too me it seems like you are mocking people of that religion by choosing that name. Sorry to be harsh but I feel very strongly about this!
I think there are several names that feel strongly tied to a religion, like [name]Cohen[/name], [name]Jesus[/name], [name]Christos[/name], [name]Mohammad[/name], etc., that maybe it would be better to steer clear of. But many Biblical names have been in circulation for so long that they are now associated with lots of people, not just Biblical figures. [name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Franklin[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name] Affleck; [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Adams[/name], [name]Samuel[/name] L. [name]Jackson[/name]; [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Craig[/name], [name]Daniel[/name] Defoe. These are common, accepted names now.
I personally don’t find [name]Pascal/name to be too a religious name. Besides [name]Pascal[/name]'s Wager, [name]Blaise[/name] [name]Pascal[/name] was a great mathematician. There was a St. [name]Pascal[/name], but there is also an actress named [name]Pascale[/name]. I think this is fine.

I personally don’t find [name]Pascal/name to be too a religious name. Most people will have no idea it means [name]Easter[/name]. Besides making [name]Pascal[/name]'s Wager, [name]Blaise[/name] [name]Pascal[/name] was a great mathematician.
