Would like to know what people think?!

Was reading the Pretty in [name_f]Pink[/name_f] blog on here last week which mentioned [name_f]Noa[/name_f] as the most popular girls name in [name_m]Israel[/name_m] and I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] IT! I have never heard either [name_f]Noa[/name_f] or [name_u]Noah[/name_u] used for a girl before and think that it (particularly without the H) totally works. My fiance and I both have no idea of what we would name a future daughter (we have boys name all picked out) but we both agree that we don’t care really if something is a prescribed boys or girls name either way, if we like it we like it!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to hear some thoughts on [name_f]Noa[/name_f] for a girl please and how it would be received in the Western world (we live in Australia and my fiance is American).

I live in the southern US and I wouldn’t be too terribly surprised by a little girl named [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. It’s not common, but so many people are using more unusual names these days and [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is a familiar sound, so it works. It’s not a name I would use personally, it’s just not my style, but I wouldn’t mind hearing it on someone elses little girl.

I like [name_f]Noa[/name_f] on a girl. This isn’t the first time I have heard this question being asked on nameberry, I never paid attention to the other responses but I thought it was usable on a girl

I’m in Australia too and I think that you may have trouble with this. I accept that [name_f]Noa[/name_f] may be very popular for girls elsewhere in the world but I think you would have to accept that here it is completely unheard of. [name_f]Remember[/name_f] also that [name_u]Noah[/name_u] is top 10 in most states and as far as I know 100% boy.

Would you be happy using another top 10 boy’s name on a girl (some people do)? If so then go ahead but be realistic about the complications.

I think [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is an adorable name for a girl. Seeing [name_u]Noah[/name_u], I would immediately think boy. However, seeing [name_f]Noa[/name_f] - I would hesitate, boy or girl?

I think of [name_f]Noa[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] ([name_f]Miley[/name_f]'s little sister). I really like the name [name_u]Noah[/name_u] on a boy, but I’m not really sure how I feel about it on a girl. I would probably decide against it. But if you love it, use it! It is your child after all.

I have a name that sounds the same as a popular boy name, but is spelled differently. Growing up, I didn’t like it. People would spell my name wrong and I always wished for a more girly name. Your daughter might have the same experience with [name_f]Noa[/name_f].

Thanks for your thoughts; I have added it to my list!

I like it but I’m Jewish and I’ve heard it before.

It’s a Biblical name for girls in its own right. There’s a [name_f]Noa[/name_f] who is a woman in the Bible.

Clarifying things, in [name_m]Israel[/name_m]
a) it’s not spelt the same
b) it’s not [name_m]SAID[/name_m] the same, either
c) it means something totally different and it’s not “the girl spelling of [name_u]Noah[/name_u]”

I rather like it (I also like [name_u]Michal[/name_u] for girls, and [name_f]Tamar[/name_f], both of which I’ve heard Americans/Aussies say sound masculine and both of which are also Biblical girls’ names) and I don’t consider it stealing from the boys at all, but people [name_m]WILL[/name_m] think it’s [name_u]Noah[/name_u].

For a girl I wouldn’t spell it with an h.

Incidentally I love [name_f]Noa[/name_f] for a girl but don’t really like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] for a boy much.

I thought of [name_f]Noa[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], little sister to [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]. If I saw the spelling [name_f]Noa[/name_f] I would think it’s probably a girl’s name. The H is all boy to me. It’s not my taste cause I like more obviously feminine & vintage/retro style names, and to my ear it’s boyish, but it’s nice enough.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, how is [name_f]Noa[/name_f] pronounced?

To the OP- While not necessarily my style, I think [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is cute. I would stick with the [name_f]Noa[/name_f] spelling.

I love it! I think it works great for a girl. It has a really soft, familiar feel to it.

There’s actually a girl a grade above me at school named [name_f]Noa[/name_f], so I can definitely see it on another little girl! I also think it looks more feminine without the h.

In [name_m]Israel[/name_m]? [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is pronounced no-a like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] is pronounced in English.

But [name_u]Noah[/name_u], the male name, is pronounced in Hebrew with a cchhh sound on the end, comparable to the way [name_m]Loch[/name_m] is pronounced in Scottish. Sometimes it is transliterated it as [name_m]Noach[/name_m].

[name_u]Noah[/name_u] is soo cute! [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Noa[/name_f], though in [name_u]America[/name_u] people may misspell it unless she spells it for them. Another name that’s a boy’s name but sounds adorable as a girl’s is [name_u]Asa[/name_u].

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] & [name_u]Asa[/name_u] would be cute sibling names!

People keep saying [name_f]Miley[/name_f] [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]’ little sisters name is [name_f]Noa[/name_f]… they’re close but it actually isn’t that spelling.
The spelling for her little sister is [name_u]NOAH[/name_u] as in the boy name on a girl. (google it)
Yes it does a little bit to further the name on girls, but her name is purely boy name on girl and not the feminized Israeli spelling.

It is pronounced the same but at least with [name_f]Noa[/name_f] spelling you have the ‘it is an Israeli girls name’ argument
