Would love to hear your thoughts on

Hello! Earlier I posted on the Top 10 list and decided to repost here for more action, hopefully. My dh and I have been discussing names for the past year (when we actually started getting ready to TTC). He likes more popular names and I would prefer to not know another person with the same name as my child. Picky, huh? Thank you phaedrap for your mostly positive comments on my earlier post:)

I love to read the message boards here but never participate. Now we are getting close to TTC and would love to know what all of you great baby namers think of my current top 10 list. I would also love more suggestions. The middle name or two will honor a family member…I’m just not sure which one, yet. Last name starts with a B and is a one syllable color…bet you can’t figure that out:) Thanks!

[name]Jensen[/name] - I worry about nn of [name]Jen[/name] or [name]Jenny[/name] which I don’t like.
[name]Lilou[/name]
[name]Rigby[/name]
[name]Signy[/name] - But will def be confused with popular [name]Sydney[/name].
[name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Murray[/name]
[name]Arwen[/name]
[name]Tula[/name]
[name]Milly[/name]
[name]Holland[/name] - Again, I worry about nn…[name]Holly[/name].

Middle name options will be [name]Sanderson[/name], [name]Montgomery[/name], [name]Jillian[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Barlow[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name]. I have played around with pretty much all of these combinations.

Thanks again:)

[name]Jensen[/name] - Very likely to be nicknamed [name]Jen[/name] or [name]Jenny[/name], at least by friends at school, so if this really bothers you I would steer clear of this one. A little masculine for my personal taste, but I can see the attraction. Would you be pronouncing it [name]Jensen[/name] or Yensen? Best mn combination - [name]Jensen[/name] [name]Barlow[/name].
[name]Lilou[/name] - Very pretty, and sweet without being cutesy. A lovely Provencal name, and a nice variation on the too-popular [name]Lily[/name]. Best mn combination - [name]Lilou[/name] [name]Sanderson[/name].
[name]Rigby[/name] - Originally a surname … Are you thinking of this for a boy or girl? I know it is traditionally a boy’s name, but your above two are for girls, so I’m confused. It reminds me of rugby, but I’m presuming you live in [name]America[/name], so that probably won’t be a problem. Still, I am not very fond of the sound. That said, ‘[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Rigby[/name]’ is a great song (sad, but great). Best mn combination - [name]Rigby[/name] [name]Sanderson[/name] (but very, very masculine).
[name]Signy[/name] - Pretty, but definitely confusable with [name]Sydney[/name], which could get annoying. Best mn combinations - [name]Signy[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name], [name]Signy[/name] [name]Elsa[/name].
[name]Sinclair[/name] - I’m not a fan of surname names, personally, and even if I were I dislike that this contains the obviously negative ‘sin’. Traditionally a boy’s name as well. Best mn combinations - [name]Sinclair[/name] [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Sinclair[/name] [name]Elsa[/name] (I think [name]Elsa[/name] [name]Sinclair[/name] could be a nice name…)
[name]Murray[/name] - Again, a masculine surname name, but my favourite out of the masculine names you have put down. You would have to be careful what you named any future sisters (nothing very feminine). Best mn combination - [name]Murray[/name] [name]Barlow[/name] (although if she has a speech impediment this will be hell).
[name]Arwen[/name] - a nice meaning, but I really don’t like the sound of the name. I didn’t get the [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings reference until I looked it up, but many people probably would - would that be a good or bad thing for you? Best mn combinations - [name]Arwen[/name] [name]Sanderson[/name], [name]Arwen[/name] [name]Georgia[/name].
[name]Tula[/name] - again, a lovely meaning. A less sickeningly flamboyant version of [name]Tallulah[/name], but it did make me think of ‘tool’. Best mn combination - [name]Tula[/name] [name]Sanderson[/name], [name]Tula[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name].
[name]Milly[/name] - I’m personally not a fan. Perhaps it is the ‘ill’ part, but to me it doesn’t sound very nice. Potentially cute, though. Best mn combination - [name]Milly[/name] [name]Barlow[/name].
[name]Holland[/name] - If you don’t like the nn [name]Holly[/name], this would be a problem … is there a story behind this name? The sound of the ending makes this flow badly with middle names beginning with consonants, and [name]Holland[/name] [name]Elsa[/name] sounds like hollandaise sauce …

My favourites (in order) : [name]Lilou[/name], [name]Signy[/name], [name]Murray[/name].

What does TTC stand for?

[name]Love[/name] your last name!

[name]Sinclair[/name] - I know a little girl named [name]Sinclair[/name]. She is very cool.
[name]Murray[/name] - I really love [name]Murray[/name] - gasp! for a boy!
[name]Arwen[/name] - I do like this name. But it is so “[name]Lord[/name] of the Rings”. What if your daughter gets tired of everyone asking about “[name]Lord[/name] of the Rings”? That’s why I like [name]Anwen[/name] more.
[name]Tula[/name] - love it!
[name]Milly[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this as a nn for [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], or [name]Camille[/name]. love [name]Millicent[/name] with your last name.
[name]Holland[/name] - Again, I worry about nn…[name]Holly[/name]. - You don’t have to use a nn for [name]Holland[/name]. [name]Just[/name] stick to your guns, and don’t let anyone call her [name]Holly[/name]. But maybe in ten or twenty years [name]Holly[/name] will be back in style. I also love [name]Hollis[/name].

Middle name options will be [name]Sanderson[/name], [name]Montgomery[/name], [name]Jillian[/name], [name]Georgia[/name], [name]Barlow[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name]. I have played around with pretty much all of these combinations.

What if you have a boy?

Thank you, thank you! These are all for a girl. I have the most trouble with boy names so I will start a completely different post for that, probably. [name]Jensen[/name] would be with the J sound. The [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings association doesn’t bother me. I never got into those movies anyway. I am glad you mentioned that about the speech impediment…my sister had one growing up. ha

[/quote]

The only boy names I have picked out are…

[name]Tarquin[/name]
[name]Milo[/name] - getting way too popular but I love it
[name]Japhy[/name]

Middle names [name]Sanderson[/name], [name]Montgomery[/name], [name]Anthony[/name], [name]Davis[/name] or [name]Barlow[/name].

Thank you, [name]Susan[/name]. I always love to read your posts:)

So, I think I should take [name]Arwen[/name] and [name]Murray[/name] off the list. Neither are getting very good reviews so far. The name [name]Millicent[/name] is so pretty but I work with one. I love [name]Camille[/name] or [name]Camilla[/name] but they are both getting so popular.

[name]Jensen[/name]: Oops! I can’t recall if you said you were removing this name, but I do think she’ll be called [name]Jen[/name]/[name]Jenny[/name]. Have you thought about [name]Jansen[/name]? It’s a backpack company, but you’ll be able to avoid [name]Jen[/name] nicknames.

[name]Lilou[/name]: I think this is lovely! I love it with [name]Montgomery[/name].

[name]Rigby[/name]: I can’t help but think of [name]Cathy[/name] [name]Rigby[/name], who played [name]Peter[/name] [name]Pan[/name]. I do think it would be cool on boy, though, because of the more masculine “rig” beginning.

[name]Signy[/name]: Yeah, I agree with the [name]Sidney[/name] issues…

[name]Sinclair[/name]: I see what Twinkle is saying about the “sin” part, but I think the [name]Clair[/name] nickname option is really cool.

[name]Murray[/name]: This one is all boy for me, and I’m thinking she may get tired of the confusion.

[name]Arwen[/name]: I think this is pretty, but like [name]Susan[/name] mentioned, she’ll have to deal with [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings fans for life. (I think you removed this one, but I’m not sure…)

[name]Tula[/name]: I think [name]Tula[/name] is fantastic!

[name]Milly[/name]: I’d personally go with [name]Millicent[/name], nn [name]Milly[/name], just to give her a more grown-up/professional option for later in life. I think it’s darling. (Note: I just saw that [name]Millicent[/name] isn’t an option, so I’d personally avoid this one in favor of a name, like [name]Tula[/name], that I think ages better. Have you thought about [name]Matilda[/name], nn [name]Tilly[/name]?)

[name]Holland[/name]: I think this name stands a good chance of becoming very popular, which you said is an issue for you. I think the [name]Holly[/name] nickname is inevitable, too.

Have you thought about [name]Georgia[/name] or [name]Elsa[/name] as first names? (I think they’re really pretty.)

Best wishes to you!

Yay, [name]Jill[/name]! I have been meaning to join your fan club…Maybe I will do that now:)

[name]Lilou[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name] is one of my absolute favorites. I’m so glad you think it is nice, too.
[name]Jensen[/name] is for my husband…he is a [name]Jensen[/name] Button fan. I just think [name]Jensen[/name] sounds more girl than boy. What do you think?
My other favorites are [name]Tula[/name] and [name]Sinclair[/name] (I was thinking the nn [name]Claire[/name], as well).
Maybe I will move [name]Rigby[/name] to the boy list since it is so short anyway.
I have thought of [name]Elsa[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] for a first name. [name]Elsa[/name] is to honor my grandmother, [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Georgia[/name] is to honor my great-grandmother. However, she hated her name and that sort of bothers me with it being a first name. It is also becoming very popular and I’m from [name]Georgia[/name].

I didn’t realize [name]Camilla[/name] and [name]Camille[/name] were getting popular.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Milo[/name], and [name]Lilou[/name] is rapidly growing on me. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Lilou[/name]?
I’m glad you like to read my posts! Thanks!

Woo-hoo! Come join the party, [name]Brooke[/name]! (That was so nice of [name]Susan[/name]…I really view it as a nameberry fan club, because of all the wonderful people.) Yes, I really love your [name]Lilou[/name] choice. [name]Lilou[/name] and [name]Tula[/name] are my favorites from your list. [name]Ah[/name], I understand [name]Jensen[/name] now, and yes, I definitely think “girl” when I hear the name because of the “[name]Jen[/name].” Definitely. [name]Montgomery[/name] was my favorite with [name]Tula[/name], too, becaue of the Southern feel.

A [name]Georgia[/name] from [name]Georgia[/name]? I agree with you leaving it in the middle! What about [name]Georgiana[/name]? I can see it with several of your names. (You’re so lucky that [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Elsa[/name] are family names!) Oh, I didn’t realize that you’re grandma hated her name. Have you thought of honoring her with [name]Ellery[/name] or [name]Elodie[/name]?

[name]Just[/name] for fun, here are some more ideas that you may like (or may hate) :

[name]Avalon[/name]
Auelia
[name]Audra[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Cordelia[/name] (nn [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Delia[/name])
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Dorothea[/name] (reminds me of [name]Milly[/name], nn [name]Thea[/name])
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Louella[/name] (may be too country-ish for you, though)
[name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] (nn [name]Tilly[/name])
[name]Zelda[/name] (reminds me of [name]Tula[/name], elda is close to [name]Elsa[/name])

Good luck!

Maybe they aren’t super popular…[name]Camille[/name] was in the 300’s and [name]Camilla[/name] was #634 last year. It just seems like they will be getting more popular with the actress, [name]Camilla[/name] [name]Belle[/name]. Maybe not, though. I do love them both.

[name]Lilou[/name] is pronounced lee-loo.

Thank you, [name]Jill[/name] for the suggestions! Actually, my grandmother named [name]Georgia[/name] hated her name. Can you believe that? I love it. [name]Elsa[/name] is just a variation on [name]Elizabeth[/name] since there are so many out there (plus my sister’s middle name is [name]Elizabeth[/name] and she wants to pass it to her children).

[name]Avalon[/name] - reminds me of the car
Auelia - how do you pronounce this?
[name]Audra[/name] - not a fan
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name] - makes me think of [name]Bill[/name] [name]Bellemy[/name]. I do like, though.
[name]Cordelia[/name] (nn [name]Cora[/name] or [name]Delia[/name]) - my dad lives near [name]Cornelia[/name].
[name]Dahlia[/name] - [name]Black[/name] [name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Dorothea[/name] (reminds me of [name]Milly[/name], nn [name]Thea[/name])
[name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Ellery[/name] - this is pretty.
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Louella[/name] (may be too country-ish for you, though)
[name]Louisa[/name] - a friends name.
[name]Laurel[/name] - one sister is [name]Lauren[/name]. (I have 4 sisters and a brother, all with good names)
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] (nn [name]Tilly[/name]) - dh doesn’t like.
[name]Zelda[/name] (reminds me of [name]Tula[/name], elda is close to [name]Elsa[/name])

Did you happen to see my boy’s list?

[name]Milo[/name] - is this getting to popular?
[name]Tarquin[/name]
[name]Japhy[/name]
[name]Rigby[/name] - I moved from the girlsl list.

Thank you!

[name]Lilou[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name] is beautiful for a girl
I love [name]Jill[/name]‘s suggestions of [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tilly[/name] and [name]Dorothea[/name] nn [name]Thea[/name] (or nn [name]Dotty[/name] - I have personally alwalys loved this one as it is cute but quirky, and not nearly as dated as [name]Dot[/name]).
On your boys’ list :
[name]Tarquin[/name] - I love. My absolute favourite.
[name]Milo[/name] - nice.
[name]Japhy[/name] - handsome, individual and cute at the same time. Unusually for me, I really do prefer using this nn form as the full name instead of [name]Japheth[/name], but I think either would work.
They all go well with the middle names you have, too.
Have you thought about [name]Lorcan[/name] or [name]Jasper[/name]?

Thank you, [name]Susan[/name]. I always love to read your posts:)

[name]Hi[/name] again! From your boys’ list, I love [name]Milo[/name]! (And [name]Rigby[/name] is growing on me despite the [name]Cathy[/name] [name]Rigby[/name] association.)

Oops! I meant [name]Aurelia[/name]! (It makes me think of [name]Tula[/name]…) For what it’s worth, I’m not an [name]Audra[/name] fan, either!

Thank you, Twinkle. That’s my favorite. I’ve been working on the dh for a while with that name and I think it is finally growing on him. I also really like those suggestions from jill. DH won’t even consider them.

[name]Lorcan[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] have both been on my boy list. I still really like them both and am not sure why I took [name]Lorcan[/name] off. [name]Jasper[/name] was out because, even though I love Twilight, all of the Twilght name will probably get up there in popularity. I like [name]Casper[/name], too.

A few other names on my list that I didn’t mention before are…

[name]Destry[/name] (g)
[name]Theron[/name] (g)
[name]Elliot[/name] (g)
[name]Emmanuel[/name] (g)
[name]Posey[/name] (g)
[name]Lorcan[/name] (b)
[name]Casper[/name] (b)
[name]Pippa[/name] (g)

[name]How[/name] sad is it that I just had to look up [name]Cathy[/name] [name]Rigby[/name]? I really didn’t know who she was.

I think [name]Aurelia[/name] is so pretty (like in [name]Love[/name] Actually, right?) It may be too pretty for me. I will ask dh what he thinks about it later.

Thank you!

My favorite combo would be [name]Arwen[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] B****… I think this is Beautiful!

I really like that, too. Now I am worried about the [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings association with [name]Arwen[/name]. Thank you! Maybe I will keep it on the list a little longer.

I love [name]Lorcan[/name]!
I think you’re right - [name]Jasper[/name] probably will get uber-popular because of Twilight. It’s a pity …
[name]Casper[/name]'s lovely, too - classic, handsome, and would suit a little boy as well as an adult.
[name]Destry[/name] - I’m not fond of the sound of this.
[name]Theron[/name] - I like this one, although I much prefer it for a boy.
[name]Elliot[/name] - quite common, at least here. The nn [name]Ellie[/name] is uber-popular, but very cute.
[name]Emmanuel[/name] - much too masculine for me (probably the ‘man’ part and the Fawlty [name]Towers[/name] - an old British sitcom - character).
[name]Posey[/name] - my friend is thinking of naming her daughter this. I started a thread called Names with nn [name]Posy[/name], and this has some great ideas on for how to get to this name while providing for if she turns out a tomboy, and making sure the name will suit an adult, too.
[name]Pippa[/name] - this has a very satisfying sound. I like it, but still prefer [name]Lilou[/name]

love [name]Lilou[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Milo[/name], [name]Caspar[/name], and [name]Lorcan[/name]. Great names!

I really like that, too. Now I am worried about the [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings association with [name]Arwen[/name]. Thank you! Maybe I will keep it on the list a little longer.[/quote]

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Brooke[/name],
The ones I like are: [name]Lilou[/name], [name]Elsa[/name] and quite like [name]Pippa[/name]. [name]Millie[/name] is okay but much prefer [name]Millicent[/name]/ [name]Camilla[/name], etc. I’m afraid I don’t like the others as I’m not a fan of surnames/ boy’s names for girls. I know it’s fashionable on The States but I’m from the UK and it’s not so much here.
I do love [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Caspar[/name] for boys (these two would also be on my short list if we had another). [name]Lorcan[/name] is okay. I quite like [name]Rigby[/name] for a boy also. [name]How[/name] about [name]Digby[/name] or [name]Dudley[/name] in the same style?
