Would the name Emrys be usable?

I recently stumbled upon the name [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] for a boy. The Rys is pronounced “Riss” not “[name_u]Rees[/name_u].” A friend told me it was used in a British television series, though I don’t remember the name of it. Does the name have a strong relevance with this show and does it seem like it would have any pronunciation issues. The spelling is legitimate, though I wonder if it would be easier pronunciation-wise with the spelling Emris, though I like it with the y better. Any thoughts?

It’s from [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] but it wasn’t invented for the show, it was in use long before that so I think you’re safe  I’d spell it the correct way though.

It’s very interesting! I would stick with the [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] spelling.

I’ve used [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] on a character, but I think it is usable enough for a real person. It has a cool guy feel to it. Stick to the [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] spelling, Emris looks weird.

Thanks! I couldn’t find the name of the show for the life of me. I’ll have to look into it. Is this show popular? Would someone associate it right away with the show?

I love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m], it’s been hovering at the top of my boys’ list forever.

On [name_m]Merlin[/name_m], [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is another name for [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] (the same is true in actual Arthurian legend.) The show, if I’m not mistaken, was wildly popular in the UK and has a cult following in the US (it’s over now but it’s on Netflix instant if you want to watch it!) Because [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is only occasionally used on the show, everyone knows the character as [name_m]Merlin[/name_m], and it’s a legit name outside the show, I don’t think it’s particularly linked with that one adaptation.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] the name. certainly useable as long as it is spelled with the Ys. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is a strong name, at least looks and sounds strong to me.

I love it. I get excited thinking about the possibility of having a future son with this name. Its super cool and has a great meaning.

Hello, I’m a Britberry so can help you!
I think it would be rare for someone to associate it directly with the BBC show [name_m]Merlin[/name_m].
I know an Emerys! Its a really cool name and so completely usuable, I think it’s lovely. Stick with the correct spelling definitely!

Ditto what @abbylily and @geeknamezyo have said. It’s a great name connected with Arthurian legends(I haven’t watched the show but I suppose it was mentioned in the legend, too). [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is totally useable, in my opinion.

I defiantly don’t see the show as a reason not to use [name_m]Emrys[/name_m], pretty much every name has been used in some book, movie, or TV show, so don’t let the fact [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] was used a couple of times in [name_m]Merlin[/name_m] scare you off. As far as spelling/pronunciation goes [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] to me reads [name_f]Em[/name_f]-riss, and I imagine most people will read it that way so please don’t change the spelling! [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is not hard to figure out the pronunciation of and it looks much nicer than Emris imo.

I really like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. I think it is a very handsome name. I would stick with the [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] spelling. I also really like [name_u]Emery[/name_u].

I like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. I think it should be easy enough to pronounce. Emris looks weird.

Thanks everyone! Maybe I’ll have to check the show out sometime. I prefer the [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] spelling as well.
