Would the similar ending of a name stop you from using it in a sib set?

I love many names that end with O ([name]Arlo[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Hero[/name])

but in a sib set I think that it might not work to have more than one ending with O, What is your opinion on this?
I feel that if and when I have kids (still a long way off) and I still love these names it will be hard to choose one I love and when I choose that one it will knock all the others of the list. Has anyone else had the same problem?

What about the ‘ie’ ending, if I had a sone called [name]Jessie[/name] would this stop me form having a daughter called [name]Sadie[/name]?

Let me know your opinions:)

I’m struggling with this too because all my favourites seem to end in the same or similar sounds.

[name]Arabella[/name], [name]Pandora[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name] and [name]Valentina[/name].
[name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Emmeline[/name] (would never use both because they too many similar sounds)
[name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Nathaniel[/name].
[name]Elijah[/name], [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Micah[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]River[/name], [name]Asher[/name], [name]Xavier[/name] all share similar sound endings.

I would use all the girls names ending in ‘a’ because they don’t sound the same apart from the last letter. I’d use both [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Nathaniel[/name] too.

Obviously, I won’t get to use all of those names ending in ‘ah/er’ sound but I’d use some of them together. I don’t think I’d want to use [name]Micah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Noah[/name] together because they look too matchy.

So I think anything more than two names together is too much for some endings, so basically I’d use [name]Micah[/name] & [name]Elijah[/name] ([name]Arlo[/name] & [name]Hero[/name]) but not [name]Micah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Noah[/name] & [name]Jonah[/name] ([name]Arlo[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Clio[/name] & [name]Hero[/name]).

I guess it all depends. My 2 year old is called [name]Naomi[/name] and my month old son is called [name]Murphy[/name]. They have similar ending sounds but they are spelled differently. Plus they aren’t next to each other in age. So it isn’t like [name]Arabella[/name], [name]Mirabella[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name] or something like that but more like [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Murphy[/name], if you know what I mean? I would definitely not use any names that were exactly alike for example [name]Hayden[/name] and [name]Kayden[/name] but I don’t think [name]Naomi[/name] and [name]Murphy[/name] is too confusing. Also, I would use more than two names that have similar sounds.
[name]Bree[/name]

I am torn on this issue. Ideally, I would like all siblings to have their own unique name with a different ending. I love so many boys names ending in “o” too ([name]Hugo[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Theo[/name]) but I wouldn’t want to give the impression that I’m fixated on one letter of the alphabet. :)Strangely, enough certain endings are worse for me than others. For example, girls names all ending in “a” are more tolerable for me than names ending in “y/ee” or “an/en/in/yn”. This is probably because in many European cultures (Italian, Russian, Spanish etc…), many of the choices all end in “a”.

It would depend if it was super rhymey and if you are willing to make it a theme or not. For me I love -a endings, and it doesn’t phase me because I’ll probably keep the theme. I also only plan on having 1 child, at most 2, so no big deal to have a [name]Luna[/name], [name]Flora[/name], and [name]Ezra[/name].

It would be more so odd if you had three children name [name]Argo[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Clio[/name], and then the 4th be [name]Michael[/name]. I think I wouldn’t do a [name]Hero[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] though, that is too matchy. [name]Just[/name] like I wouldn’t do a [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Flora[/name].

I think that if the names are different enough overall a similar ending wouldn’t deter me.
[name]Ana[/name] (A-na) and [name]Paloma[/name] sound different enough despite the same ending sound.
So while [name]Hugo[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] might be too similar since both are two syllables and have the -o ending. [name]Antonio[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] would feel fine to me.

I think for two in a sibset, it’s fine, but more than two I don’t like. So [name]Luca[/name] and [name]Ava[/name] I like, but [name]Luca[/name], [name]Ava[/name], and [name]Noah[/name] seems like too much. A different number of syllables also helps- [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Amanda[/name], and [name]Caterina[/name] sounds much better than [name]Jonah[/name], [name]Anna[/name], and [name]Cara[/name].

That said, I really don’t think it’s that big of a deal if the other sounds and initials are different; I’d much prefer [name]Luca[/name], [name]Ava[/name], and [name]Noah[/name] to [name]Luca[/name], [name]Lily[/name], and [name]Linus[/name]. I think if you love a bunch of names that end with the same sound, it may not be perfectly ideal, but it’s definitely not unusable or too matchy.

I was just wondering the same thing! My two daugthers are [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Zoee[/name] and I want another greek-origin name for a futur third daugther. I really love [name]Clea[/name], [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] however I’m worried that [name]Clea[/name] ([name]Clay[/name]-uh) and/or [name]Thea[/name] ([name]Tay[/name]-uh) would rhyme too much with Maïa’s (My-uh). What do you think? [name]Penelope[/name] is also very nice but much longer then [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Zoee[/name]'s names and I’d worry little [name]Penelope[/name] would feel left out.

Thanks,
P:)

Generally, I don’t think that having the same sound is problematic. For example, I’m in a sibset that ends in the “lee” sound ([name]Wesley[/name] & [name]Natalie[/name] [me]) and it’s worked out fine. On the flip side, something like [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Posey[/name] is just too matchy and almost one letter away from each other.

Going back to the OP’s comment on an ‘ie’ sibset, [name]Jessie[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] seems like it would work to me. [name]One[/name] ends in a “see” sound, while the other ends in a “dee” sound, so there is a lbit of difference between them.

No. I don’t put a lot of stock into how my favorite names sound together. I would much rather have a list of names that hold a lot of meaning to me (and/or future husband) than have a list of names chosen because they sound good together.
