Would this bother you?

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] has been my favourite name, girl or otherwise, for many years now. I love how sweet it is, the sound of it, and the gentleness of the name. It’s perfect, basically.

The problem is my evil, has-to-ruin-everything surname. It causes me so many problems in terms of flow, and now it’s trying to kill off my favourite name ever… I might be being a little dramatic for the sake of emphasis. Anyway. [name_f]My[/name_f] surname is one syllable, and it rhymes with [name_m]Price[/name_m]. I’ll use the name “[name_m]Price[/name_m]” to demonstrate the problem.

When you put [name_f]Alice[/name_f] in with my surname, you get “[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Price[/name_m]”. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see how they end in the same 3 letters? [name_u]Ice[/name_u] ice? Like that song by Vanilla [name_u]Ice[/name_u]. It looks weird to me now. I can’t unsee it. It’s driving me insane.

Is that even a problem? I can’t tell anymore. Being stuck inside has given me too much time on my hands and now my brain is actively trying to sabotage me. Help?

I think it’s fine since [name_f]Alice[/name_f] doesn’t rhyme with “[name_m]Price[/name_m]”

Aw man that sucks. [name_f]My[/name_f] last name is even worse ([name_m]Don[/name_m]’t wish to disclosure it) and there are like 30% of names I can’t even use.

Yep, I agree! I also adore the name [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and I don’t think your surname should deter you from using it!

I think it’s fine since you pronounce [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_m]Price[/name_m] completely differently. I honestly didn’t notice it until you mentioned it.

I think it’s fine, they are similar but not too matchy-matchy that it would bother me.
Off topic, it sounds like you are not content with your surname, have you considered maybe changing it to the one you like?

“Not content” is one way to put it haha. Unfortunately the family crapstorm that would ensue if I changed my last name would be enough to put anyone off. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents are divorced so they get very petty about this sort of thing. [name_f]My[/name_f] surname isn’t that evil really, just very annoying for choosing

I did consider giving my kids a completely different surname to any of us, just to save them from the [name_f]Asian[/name_f] cuisine-related bullying, but I don’t know if that’s a bit weird or not. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] well.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I probably am being silly which is reassuring. But you know what it’s like when you stare at something long enough that it starts to look weird… I need to get a hobby lmao.

It would bother me too, but objectively I think they work fine together. As others have said, they don’t rhyme and share a simple, straightforward kind of vibe. I also think the difference in syllables helps — [name_f]Grace[/name_f] “[name_m]Price[/name_m]” would definitely be too much, but [name_f]Alice[/name_f] works.

As they don’t actually rhyme, I think it’s fine

Honestly tricky surnames are the worse! [name_f]My[/name_f] surname is awful :woman_facepalming:t3:

Anyways I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] ‘[name_m]Price[/name_m]’ is absolutely fine they don’t rhyme and visually the ice ice thing isn’t obvious. I think potentially your overthinking it which is definitely very easy thing to do when it comes to naming. Personally I would use [name_f]Alice[/name_f] as you love it so much.

Have been having this issue over a different name that ends the same as our surname (but like yours, different syllables and doesn’t rhyme) and have decided that while it’s not perfect, it’s what we love most and are going for it. I don’t see a huge problem with [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_m]Price[/name_m], if [name_f]Alice[/name_f] has your heart then use it. Difficult surnames are a pain!

Hmm This actually might bug me visually. I’m looking at some caulk I have that’s named [name_u]Alex[/name_u] Flex and thinking … Of course [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and “[name_m]Price[/name_m]” don’t rhyme so that’s good but I don’t like the way it looks at all if I’m being overly critical. If I wasn’t being overly critical I think it’s totally fine though since how often do you have too analyze the spelling of someone else’s name?

I have another surname problem. I don’t share my husbands surname but they are very close in structure and they rhyme. I considered using my surname as a middle but it’s terrible! It would be equivalent to [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Mullens Goggens. Terrible!!

Ugh, I can see your point and I do think it would give me a bit of pause. That said, I think the fact that they don’t actually rhyme saves you here! The flow isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely workable for your all-time favorite name. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is wonderful and clearly special to you, so I vote still use it! I think the pros outweigh the drawbacks here.

Hi there.

I think that it’s fine. If you had a long list of favorites, I’d say eliminate [name_f]Alice[/name_f] because it’s not a perfect flow. But if [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is the one, I wouldn’t see this as a deal breaker. It doesn’t sound awful at all. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is very sweet, by the way.

Hope this helps.

I wouldn’t have noticed it unless you pointed it out! I think it’s fine!

I don’t see it as a problem at all since [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and “[name_m]Price[/name_m]” do not have the same ending sound.

Keep [name_f]Alice[/name_f], change LN. Problem solved!

it is not an issue

Alice ( P)[name_u]Rice[/name_u] does feel a little bit of a mouthful but I think because of the s s ending. But i think it’s ok. Find a good middle and then she can always use both names on forms and stuff where it might look weird.

Wouldn’t be enough to make me give up a name I loved. I think the repeated letters make it memorable.
