Would you choose Benjamin or Bennett to go with big bro Leo?

We are finally making some progress on our boy name list - and just in time as baby arrives in April!

We love Benjamin for all the cute nickname potential (Ben, Benny, Benji, etc.) and it has been a frontrunner for a while, but we recently discovered Bennett (suggested by someone here!). We hadn’t considered Bennett before but it’s now giving us pause.

A major pro of Benjamin is the “Benji” nickname that we love. I’m assuming you wouldn’t get that in using Bennett. However, a pro of Bennett is that it’s potentially less popular and well-known than Benjamin and also less syllables so perhaps matches big brother “Leo” in length a little better. On the flip side, while Benjamin is more popular and traditional, perhaps Bennett will eventually be seen as trendy. So many things to consider!

What would you choose? Vote below!

  • Benjamin Hamilton
  • Bennett Hamilton

They’re both lovely names, but I like that [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is more timeless and I love[name_f][/name_f] the nickname [name_m]Benji[/name_m]. And I think a [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] ‘Benji’ would stand out more than a [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] ‘Ben’ despite [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] being more popular!

I went with [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- I do like nickname [name_m]Benji[/name_m]!

[name_f][/name_f]

If it helps, I’ve met a couple of [name_m]Leos[/name_m] with brothers with longer names [name_f][/name_f]- think [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m] etc. and they haven’t felt odd besides each other. [name_m]Leo[/name_m] holds its own [name_f][/name_f] and I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] work just fine

That does help! And I think because he will most likely be Ben/Benji/Benny on the day-to-day the name won’t feel so long either :slightly_smiling_face:

[name_m]Benji[/name_m] is just so cute and cool at the same time! I can see it working well on a baby, little boy, teenager and adult. All around a good one.

I chose [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] “benji”! But honestly I’d probably just go with [name_m]Benji[/name_m] as the full name!

I personally like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and actually know less Benjamin’s than Bennett’s.

I feel like classic names are less common than more modern names these days

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though I prefer [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], for many of the reasons you said, I voted [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] because I love [name_m]Benji[/name_m].

I never thought of doing that! Something to consider :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes I assumed everyone would know so many little Benjamins but in real life, I personally know two Bennett’s and one [name_m]Benson[/name_m]. But no Benjamins!

I love the timeless, gentle Benjamin; he’s been a favorite of mine for years and years. So I would happily vote for either! But Bennett got my vote. I love that he means “blessed”; I think he flows a little better with your surname; I think he would work better with some of your family names because he doesn’t end in an N like Benjamin and Hamilton do! I think you could still use Benji for him (even though it makes a little less sense). I do think it would make a little more sense, though, if you had a middle with a J in it? Bennett feels so wholesome and sweet; I imagine the kindest boy with the sweetest and noblest heart. I also like that he’s less expected, but has lots of history (he’s related to Benedict).

Good luck!

ETA: Benjamin might work a little better for you then, since you don’t know any - I’ve met lots of Benjamins and know a handful pretty well (not just passing acquaintances). I believe Benjamin is top 10 in the US, but if you’re not in the US (I think I saw you mention Canada in another post?), maybe it’s not as well used there.

I’m bias because my son’s name is [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] nn [name_f]Benny[/name_f]. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
