Would you consider Madeline a timeless name?

I adore the name [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/Madeleine

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys see this name as a timeless classic? Like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]…

Or will it be a dated name?

:heart::heart:

Pronounced with the Lynn/Len sound not line

I love it! It’s definitely timeless. It’s so feminine and noble.

Technically, I guess? If pronounced -lynn then I think it has a trendy sound that lends itself to feeling less timeless.

I think it’s definitely timeless! It’s very elegant

Timeless!! I’m pronouncing it with the -line ending.

Sorry I should have specified-

I’m picturing the [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] sound and not line

With the line pronunciation it feels like a classic name but with the lynn pronunciation it feels like a past trend therefore feels dated.

I wouldn’t call it completely timeless as it does feel more tied to a specific generation to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it used outside of that generation so…kind of?

I wouldn’t consider it dated at all! I’m not sure about whether it’s a classic as it doesn’t come to mind immediately when I think of classics, but I definitely think it’s not tied to any generation. I agree with the “kind of” assessment

I love [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] – the little girl who lived “in an old house in [name_u]Paris[/name_u] that was covered in vines.”

It feels like a modern classic if that makes sense

Thanks everyone! @Greyblue it totally makes sense!

@firefly305 yessss I think of a little girl in [name_u]Paris[/name_u], or the books.

It’s been one of my favorites since I was little. Feels magical, mischievous, sweet, and princessy all at once to me.

I feel like it’s on par with [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]. A modern classic.

I’m referring to the books in my quote. [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is lovely! I would try to secure a nickname early on if you don’t like “[name_f]Maddie[/name_f],” though!

I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] are pretty classic. They come in and out of fashion but have been around. I dont see how anyone could argue against that.

Madelyn (or any other spelling), [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], [name_u]Madison[/name_u] seem more modern and maybe a bit trendy.

I feel sad saying this, but I think it is dated, simply because a billion people named their daughter that at a certain time, and many that didn’t choose that named their daughter [name_u]Madison[/name_u] or something along those lines. So many Maddies.

I love the [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] spelling.

What I prefer now is [name_f]Madelief[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], [name_f]Madrona[/name_f], [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f], [name_f]Marilla[/name_f], [name_f]Muriel[/name_f], [name_f]Maryellen[/name_f], [name_f]Mimosa[/name_f], [name_f]Martina[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f], Maginel, [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Mignon[/name_f], etc.

Definitely a classic!

Thanks a bunch everyone !!!

I think that particular spelling of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is classic and timeless. I also associate it with the sweet and charming [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] books. However I know well over a dozen [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/Madalyn’s (who mostly all go by [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]) which I would consider more dated. [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] sounds even more classic to me, because of the -line- ending.

Sure, yeah.

Madeline does feel like a modern classic. For what it’s worth, I think the ‘lynn’ pronunciation is pretty as well!

Yeah I think [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is timeless!
