[name]Do[/name] you think these names scream ‘Cold War era’ or would you say they still sound pretty modern? I was looking at the historical data of names on thenamemachine and noticed [name]Valerie[/name] and [name]Kimberly[/name], while not nearly as popular as they were 30 to 45 years ago, are still pretty common and thousands of girls are still given those names yearly in the US.
[name]Do[/name] you think this means the names aren’t really out of style but rather there are simply a higher diversity of names given to baby girls now so they aren’t given in quite as great numbers, or would you say [name]Valerie[/name] and [name]Kimberly[/name] are just outdated period?
They feel dated to me…I only know [name]Valerie[/name]'s or kimberly’s my age or older. I’m 29.But I mean there’s nothing wrong with them! They just feel like names of my generation which I typically do not picture on little kids.
I don’t think so. To me the only names that become dated are ones that define a generation, like [name]Jennifer[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name] of the 80’s and as I imagine [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name] will be 20 years from now. [name]Kimberly[/name] and [name]Valerie[/name] were never popular enough to be in this category. I don’t think they’re as fresh and as unique as a lot of people want these days, but they are timeless [name]IMO[/name].
Oh yeah, I was born in 1990 so there’s a lot of Jennifers and Melissas my age but most seem older than me and there’s very few that are more than 5 years younger than me or so. I’m surprised though, both those names are still somewhat popular as well though nothing like the 70s-80s-early 90s.
I think [name]Kimberly[/name] and [name]Valerie[/name] are dated, but I have a soft spot for '80s and '90s names, so I would love to see them used. If you want updated versions, you may like [name]Valeria[/name] and [name]Kimber[/name].
[name]Kimberly[/name] feels a tad dated, as does the nn [name]Kim[/name], but for some reason [name]Valerie[/name] doesn’t. I think [name]Valerie[/name] could easily work on a little girl today.
I agree that [name]Kimberly[/name] feels more dated than [name]Valerie[/name], but they both feel dated to me. [name]Valerie[/name] feels like a name from the 50’s and 60’s (not sure if it is, but that’s what it feels like to me, think [name]Valerie[/name] Bertanelli). [name]Kimberly[/name] feels like a name from the 70’s and 80’s.
Though, I know someone who recently named their daughter [name]Valerie[/name], and someone who recently named their daughter [name]Kimber[/name] (but not [name]Kimberly[/name]).
I know 50 something Kims & Vals.
I know 20 something Kims- quite a lot of them actually and only one [name]Valerie[/name] my age.
I think Kardassian has probably made [name]Kim[/name] feel sexier & more relevant.
V names like [name]Vivian[/name] & [name]Violet[/name] are pretty hot so [name]Valerie[/name] wouldn’t be too unfamiliar.
I think that these names have a dated quality and don’t feel that fresh or modern but if you love them use them they aren’t crazy unheard of & don’t have that “define a generation” quality.
I prefer [name]Kimberly[/name] over [name]Valerie[/name].
