Would you ever give your child a place name without having been to the place?

If I liked the name, I’d use it even if I have no desire to visit the place. People Names and Place names are so tied together anyway. Most places are named after people. [name_f]Florence[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] are both high on my list and it doesn’t bother me that they are both connected to places that I’d likely never visit. When I hear place names given to kids, I actually don’t even consider that the name is meaningful to the parents or that the parents visited. I know enough [name_f]Savannah[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]'s, [name_u]Dakota[/name_u]'s, etc to be used to people just likely what are now known as place names. I met a [name_u]Cheyenne[/name_u] recently and was surprised that the parents chose the name specifically to honor a location.

It definitely wouldn’t be a problem for me. I’ve never been to [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] (Ukraine) before, but I think it’d be a lovely choice if I ever have a girl again.

Hahaha

Same here.
