Would you ever leave your children's names to chance?

To each their own. Nothing wrong with how they chose the names. Doubt I would do so myself. I love names. Never cared about meaning and now popularity doesn’t really matter so much either. We just got to love the name and it has to have a family connection.

This topic reminds me of a children’s book that I had, Ten Kids, No Pets. It centers on a family in which the 10 children have been named systematically: the first child received the first name in the A section of the baby naming book; the second child received the second name in the B section, the third got the third C name, and so on. I still remember all the names:

[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_m]Bainbridge[/name_m]
[name_f]Calandra[/name_f]
[name_m]Dagwood[/name_m]
[name_m]Eberhard[/name_m]
[name_f]Faustine[/name_f]
[name_f]Gardenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_u]Ira[/name_u]
Janthina

[name_m]Even[/name_m] as a kid, I was so fascinated with the unusual names and all the possibility within the naming process. But my love of names and their meaning would keep me from leaving the decision to chance! Heck, I’ve started the process and I don’t have any children on the way too soon!

This is very true: I’ve been working on my lists since I was about 4-5 years old, and it doesn’t look like I’ll be having children for another 5-7 years at least (but who knows). Not that there is anything bad or superior about the method they have chosen, I just couldn’t do it. I’m 90% sure of what I will call my first children, and I am [name_m]WAY[/name_m] too much of a control freak to leave it to chance. A big kudos to them all the same: horses for courses.

I couldn’t do it as I need to have loved a name for a long time but I gave it a go and got:
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Evangelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Shantell[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]

[name_u]Zion[/name_u] [name_m]Jarred[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]

I hate [name_f]Shantell[/name_f] so out of those two I would chose [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Evangelina[/name_f] though its a bit frilly and I would chose [name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] as I actually don’t mind [name_u]Rory[/name_u].

Wow, I could never do that. I’m too in love with names.
