[name]Do[/name] you think most people would get it right or wrong?
I think it is pronounced like SHO-BAHN
I think its an intuitive name, I’d be surprised to hear anyone mispronouncing [name]Siobhan[/name] these days.
I’d pronounce it Shiv-aun, which is the authentic Irish pn.
I think most folk would know how to pronounce it these days
yes, Shiv-awn. I would think most would know how to pronounce it correctly.
Yes, I do know how to pronounce it (shiv-AWN), and I thought most people knew, at least here in [name]England[/name].
Here in the midwest US we don’t (or at least I don’t and I know more name stuff than most people around here haha)
Yes - “shi-vawn”
Here in [name]Canada[/name], I feel like the majority of adults have come across the name before, but most children and adolescents wouldn’t know the correct pronunciation (Shiv-awn) unless they know someone with the name, which is rather unlikely as it isn’t very common. It really depends on where you are; I know it is much more known in the UK then [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name]. [name]Canada[/name] is somewhere in between the UK and US, I would imagine.
Depends on where you are. If people go with [name]Sean[/name] in your area, chances are it wil be fine. If it’s mostly [name]Shawn[/name] or [name]Sean[/name], you might be out of luck. But, once you give someone the correct pronunciation, chances are they will remember it.
I know how to pronounce it, but I doubt many others in my region of the U.S. would know how! Still, I think it absolutely gorgeous. There are lots of names that need explanation to pronounce – it shouldn’t be a deal breaker.
My name is [name]Siobhan[/name]!
I pronounce it Shiv- on or Shiv-aun, it depends.
I do know how to pronounce it, but I don’t think most people in my area would.
Oh, and I live in [name]America[/name], so most people don’t know how to say it when they read it. This is honestly only a problem in school, and it’s not that big of a deal because I just correct them once and they get it. It’s also a really good conversation topic. In case yo were wondering , I really love my name!
This is not used much in the Midwest, so I wasn’t sure how to pronounce it, but I do think it’s gorgeous!
I do, but only because I knew a [name]Siobhan[/name] in high school. I think most people in the States wouldn’t unless they had encountered it before.
I’m not sure of other parts of the country but I live in a largely Irish populated place in upstate NY. There was at least 5 girls in my grade named [name]Siobhan[/name] lol. But people normally pronounce it right here for the most part.
I agree most people in the US would not know unless they’d known of someone before with the name. I know because I dated an Irish man for a number of years, so was introduced to a lot of irish names. But before that I’d have had no idea.
I do know how to pronounce it, but I don’t think everyone does. The pronunciation is familiar, I think a lot of people have just never seen it on paper before. [name]Siobhan[/name] is one on my husband’s favorite names, but I just don’t love it enough to use it despite spelling/pronunciation issues. If it’s your favorite, though, I think you should go ahead and use it. It was more popular in the past, so older generations are likely to be familiar with it and like it. Plus, Irish names are becoming more popular in general, so it’s possible the pronunciation/spelling of traditional Irish names will become more familiar to people in the future.
The only reason I know how to pronounce it is because it was the name of a character in a book I read in English class. Otherwise, I would say “Sha-bawn”
