I would really appreciate opinions on the names on my list. Although we don’t know if we are having a boy or a girl yet, I am almost certain it is a boy. I am wanting names that sound decent (if not perfect) with my step-children [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. Middle name will be either [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (after my father), [name_m]Charles[/name_m] (after my father-in-law), or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (my mother-in-law’s maiden name and my husband’s middle name).
The List:
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (my hang up on [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] is that I am afraid the name is ONLY associated with Mr. Bloom)
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
Other suggestions are welcome. I just want a good idea of what I want before I start trying to talk names with DH.
As far as [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] goes, my initial thoughts are of [name_f]Florida[/name_f] and [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]. I honestly kind of forgot about [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] Bloom until you mentioned it.
I think a lot of people will think of [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] Bloom, but so what? He’s a beautiful man, seems very kind and genuine. Then there’s [name_m]Orlando[/name_m], Charlemagne’s military leader and “leading man” in the Italian renaissance poems [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] Furioso and [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] Innamorato, [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] [name_m]Woolf[/name_m]'s beautiful novel and [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] in [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]'s fabulous As You Like It
1)[name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
2)[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
3)[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
4)[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
5)[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
6)[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] I also like [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. When I hear [name_m]Orlando[/name_m], I think of Disneyworld, not bloom.
7)[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
All of these combos I like. I like the firsts and middles. It’s simply a matter of preference.
Now the next three not so much:
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] I keeping slipping when I say it. I somehow keep rhyming [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. The -and part sticks out to me. I like both of these names, but not together.
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] I have never known an [name_m]Amos[/name_m]. I think Famous [name_m]Amos[/name_m] (cookies?) and [name_m]Amos[/name_m] and [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. Not so much my choice. But if you like it it’s usable.
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] I used to like this one more. The only [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] I knew was a girl, but it’s not popular for girls. It could work. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not my favorite. I like so many of your favorites more.
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] ([name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_u]August[/name_u] is really cute I think)
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] ([name_m]Don[/name_m]'t think there’s anything wrong with being associated with them, but also, [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] brings up other [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]'s that I agree with)
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (Reminds me too much of Hollister)
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (not a fan of [name_m]Orland[/name_m] with this middle name at all.)
[name_f]Love[/name_f] your list of names! They all have a nice flow with your stepchildren’s names.
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] - personally I really like the name [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] :), this one has a nice mix of ‘different, but familiar’ at the same time.
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - I think [name_m]Charles[/name_m] flows a little better than [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] with the fn as [name_m]Orlando[/name_m]…
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - With all combos you listed, this one seems to be the only one with family ties for both fn and mn. I think it’s great!
out of 4-10, 4-7 are, imo, good fn/mn combos. 8-10 just aren’t my style…
4. [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
5. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
6. [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
7. [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
8. [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
9. [name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
10. [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
I honestly don’t think the Bloom reference is going to be an issue. I also like how [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] flows much better with [name_m]Charles[/name_m]; maybe the jump from the o to the a is what makes [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] seem awkward. It seems like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] is a really popular name on this site; is it from some kind of show that I’ve missed out on? I think most people that see it on paper aren’t going to know how to pronounce it, so I’m not too keen on it.
Since you’re honouring family members with your mn choices, I’m not going to worry if the fn blends into the mn. Family meaning trumps flow all the time.
The combos I like are…
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - goes particularly well with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f].
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] - matches the strength of [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - See [name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - has the same Biblical flair as [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] - romantic choice
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - strong name for one-syllable
Dislike these combos because…
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - too heavy on the “an” sound. Yes, I think of [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] Bloom as well as [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] and other literary characters and the place in [name_f]Florida[/name_f]. It’s got everything, doesn’t it?
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - Two fine names that sound kind of “bland” together.
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - [name_m]Josiah[/name_m] and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] are “i” heavy. Maybe it doesn’t bother you though?
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - I like this name but next to the strong and masculine [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] would sound like a wimp (especially if he gets the nn [name_f]Holly[/name_f]).
I think you have a great list of names here. The only ones I really am not a fan of are [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] seems a bit old and stuffy, especially with your stepchildren’s names. They’re older and classic but somewhat stylish now. Plus, [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] seems somewhat effeminate to me (maybe because it’s so similar to [name_f]Holly[/name_f]?). [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] does not flow at all. [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] is much better. I did immediately think of Bloom, but I don’t think it’s a big deal. Nevertheless, it is a rather bold name compared to the siblings’ names.
The List:
4 [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Milo[/name_m], wonder how it ages. But middle name is a solid option if he wants something more mature, M. [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] Lastname is a nice signature.
5 [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. I personally love the nn gus. Better than auggie…
1 [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. Can’t go wrong with such a classic, handsome name.
3 [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] . maybe should have put this second. I would use [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] myself except the Ln for mine would start with an S. Sad face.
7 [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. I’m so so on the name out loud but still don’t love this spelling. Makes me think of the type of monkey. Maybe should have ranked it lower.
2 [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. [name_m]Levi[/name_m] is growing on me quickly. I like the sound of it.
6 [name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Had a professor in college by this name, pronounced it ah-mus, not aye-mes.
10 [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. too rhymey/repetitive.
8 [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. Yeah [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] is strongly associated with the actor, but I (due to geographical proximity) think of Disney.
9 [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Sounds a little country old school (thinking of [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] twiddy or however it was). [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like the nn con or rad… Prefer [name_m]Connor[/name_m] actually.
From best to worst:
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - used more often for girls these days.
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] - I think more of the city in [name_f]Florida[/name_f], actually. And the guy in As You Like It. It just doesn’t flow so well.
