I would definitely pronounce it [name_f]Faina[/name_f]. I’m from [name_f]England[/name_f] if that helps. [name_f]Faina[/name_f] is very pretty and I prefer this spelling because the other two look made up.
Faena is a bit too made-up/fairy princess to me, so I’d avoid that (though it could mesh well if that’s your style). [name_f]Faina[/name_f] isn’t bad but something about it looks clinical to me somehow, so I voted for [name_f]Fayna[/name_f]. Weird personal feeling aside, I think [name_f]Faina[/name_f] is probably best.
Thanks!
That was my first instinct as well. [name_m]Just[/name_m] was afraid of it being mispronounced a lot.
I love the nickname [name_f]Fay[/name_f] for a little girl.
Thanks!
My SO says [name_f]Faina[/name_f] makes him think of fauna, which he likes.
I agree about Faena as well.
Oh, maybe that was it! Not so much clinical as… categorical? Is that a word? [name_f]Fauna[/name_f] is a good association to have.
Yes I agree, categorical and I also like the [name_f]Fauna[/name_f] association.
I think [name_f]Faina[/name_f], nickname [name_f]Faye[/name_f] will probably be best.
Although I am surprised at the number of ‘I don’t like this name’ voters as I thought [name_f]Faina[/name_f] was reminiscent of [name_f]Freya[/name_f], which seems to be rather popular on this site.
I have heard [name_f]Faina[/name_f] pronounced “fah-EE-nuh”. I think it is Ukrainian, but I may be wrong.
[name_f]Faina[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] popped into my head first.
I love the ‘ae’ of Faena, but I think it looks a bit on the kre8tif side. [name_f]Faina[/name_f] would be my pick out of the options. I think my favourite spelling is Phaenna, which I think is the original (but I’m not 100%); I recently came across it and fell in love with the meaning, and I love [name_f]Fae[/name_f] too.
[name_f]Faina[/name_f] is gorgeous and I’d definitely pronounce it [name_f]Fay[/name_f]-nuh. I might have to steal this from you…
I think this is a beautiful name! I voted for [name_f]Fayna[/name_f] only because it is the one most obviously pronounced “fay-nuh.” I like [name_f]Faina[/name_f] too, but I do want to mention that it reminds me of the word “faint.” Not a huge issue, just something I wouldn’t want you to be blindsided by if others say that too later on. In a lot of languages it may be pronounced “fah-EE-nuh” as mentioned above, but I think most English speakers would get [name_f]Faina[/name_f] right on the first try. And for the record, I actually like Faena too, but I like it the least of the group.
Overall it’s a great name, I don’t think you can go wrong.
I want to pronounce [name_f]Faina[/name_f] as fah-EE-nuh, so I picked Faena and [name_f]Fayna[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname [name_f]Faye[/name_f], but I prefer the name [name_f]Fenna[/name_f].
Go ahead
It is a very uncommon name from what I have seen. SO and I won’t be trying to conceive for a while, just found this name yesterday and fell in love with it!
I voted for [name_f]Fayna[/name_f] because I think the pronunciation is the most obvious. However if you like [name_f]Faina[/name_f] I think it’s a good option, but may be mispronounced at first. I pronounced [name_f]Faina[/name_f] fuh-ee-nuh when I first read it. That being said, once I saw you wanted it pronounced fay-nuh the spelling made sense and it’s not really confusing in any way. People might get it wrong on the first try, but shouldn’t have a problem after being corrected once.
Thanks everyone! Any thoughts on the combo [name_f]Faina[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Faina[/name_f] [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
I voted for [name_f]Fayna[/name_f]. Cute nn [name_f]Fay[/name_f] without having to change the spelling.
Out of the three, I prefer [name_f]Faina[/name_f]. It looks cleaner and more intuitive to me.
On the other hand, Faena seems like a good choice too because the pronunciation of the name reminds me of the Greek name Phaenna.
[name_f]Fayna[/name_f], while does lead to the easy nn [name_f]Fay[/name_f] with no spelling changes, looks made up to me, while [name_f]Faina[/name_f] and Faena seem like legitimate spellings.
It’s a very beautiful name no matter what spelling you choose!
