[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys, this dilemma has been playing on my mind as I’ve been reorganising my signature.
My all time favourite girls name is [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] and I would love to use it in the future. However, as I look at my other favourites [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], I feel that [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] just really stands out. I feel as though it would look odd when next to her potential siblings.
So my question is, would you guys use a name that stands out and is a rather different style compared to his/her siblings?
Actually I think [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] have the same vibes, feel more similar to each other. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is the one that has a different feel for me but not enough to seem odd or in left field. Most people wouldn’t think anything of it.
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] have the same country feeling vibes to me. I personally don’t think sibling names should match but that’s just my opinion. Go for whatever name you want. No one would bat an eye if you had a [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m].
I agree with the others. Several of these names actually all have a similar feel to them so I don’t think [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] is a terrible outlier. To answer your question, I used to be big on proper sibsets. However, I’ve recently been on the mindset that it doesn’t matter too much, as long as the name is one that the parents love. I still think that something like [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] and [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] would look odd, but that’s my outsider’s opinion…I assume the parents have reasons for choosing them.
I think [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] actually goes really well with many of the names you listed, especially [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]- they all have a modern/current but not super trendy vibe. I actually find [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] to be the outliers here, especially with your boys’ names; they’re a lot more vintage than the others.
Like somebody else mentioned, all your names have a sort of country vibe to them. [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] could easily work into that theme, even if you’re not really going for a specific theme. Sure, it’s a little bit out there, but not so much that it can’t be used with other more-subdued sounding names.
I think [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] would be fine with that group of names. Actually, to me the names that stand out in that grouping would be [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] & [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], simply because they’re far more common than the others.
I agree, [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] is much more trendy/modern sounding than the other classical sounding names. I prefer sibling names that sound relatively consistent in style. For instance, I adore the name [name_f]Melanie[/name_f] but would not use it on anyone, pet or human, because it’s so inconsistent with my other names (like you, I tend towards classical/British/antique names, with a few rare exceptions like [name_f]Melanie[/name_f]).
There are a few names that pair well with [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] though, if you love it. [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are all relatively trendy names- though they’ve been around for a long time, they are especially popular now and do sound fairly modern. I know quite a few Hannahs, Calebs, Olivias, and Savannahs in their 20s right now. I can definitely see a [name_m]Caleb[/name_m]/[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]/[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] sibling set working and not sounding strange (obviously, [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] is probably out haha).
I think names like [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_m]Elijah[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] would look quite strange paired with [name_f]Savannah[/name_f].
You can absolutely use [name_f]Savannah[/name_f]. I don’t understand this “you can’t use the name because it doesn’t go with the sibling names” business.
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] fits in extremely well imo…
I actually know sisters named [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f] is just kinda common in my experience (I went to middle school with 5 girls named [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] in my grade of 150 kids), so it fits in great with other popular names like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]. Maybe I’ve just met an insane amount of Savannahs compared to the average person lol.
I agree with the PP who said [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] stand out more than [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] does.
If you like the name then use it. Sibsets aren’t so imporant, because after a certain age children’s names aren’t said alongside their siblings anyway. I can’t remember the last time someone said my name and my siblings names in the same sentence.
FWIW, I think [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] goes just fine with those names.
I personally don’t see [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] standing out too much from most of the other names.
We named our first born a very common name and our second one that is completely unheard of. I think if you like a name, I wouldn’t stress too much. [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] (where I live) is quite common. In fact, from that list, [name_m]Ive[/name_m] never heard of [name_m]Hayes[/name_m] so I would have picked that as the name that stands out from the rest!
