Would you use an honour name/names or just a name/names you loved?

Sorry of this is the wrong forum. I am not sure where to post this.

I am renaming myself. I am keeping my first name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] and my surname [name_m]Brooks[/name_m]. However I was never given any middle name/names. Therefore as I love names so much I want to give myself middles.

One dilemma I have though is whether to honour people in my name or just use name/names I love. I keep going back and forth on this. Opinions on whether to honour relatives or not? Who would you decide to honour?

Some names that could honour people in my family without using the direct name are [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] ([name_f]Nell[/name_f]), [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] ([name_f]Sheila[/name_f]), [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ([name_f]Karen[/name_f]), [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] ([name_f]Karen[/name_f]), [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] ([name_f]Susan[/name_f]), [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] ([name_f]Grace[/name_f]), [name_f]Anna[/name_f] ([name_f]Grace[/name_f]), [name_f]Elise[/name_f] ([name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]). [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] are my great grandmothers, [name_f]Sheila[/name_f] is my grandmother, [name_f]Karen[/name_f] my mother and [name_f]Susan[/name_f] my aunt, all on my Mum’s side of the family. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my grandmother on my Dad’s side.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] names I love are [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Leonor[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonore[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] along with lots of others.

Thank you for any advice.

I’m hoping this is in the spirit but my sense is that you’re over analysing this decision, from another over-thinker! Pick two: one you like and an honour (if you admire the person) and start enjoying your new name!

This is very interesting! I was just thinking how, in some ways, it is easier to name a character in fiction than a baby. You know who the character is, but you don’t know who your baby will be. But you know yourself, of course. I think the most important thing is that the name feels like you.

Is there anyone you would love to honor? Then do it! [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] telling that person that you are adding names to your own name to honor them. [name_m]How[/name_m] does it feel? [name_m]How[/name_m] do they respond?

If there is someone that you want to honor in your name, do so. If not, choose something that you love which feels like “you”. And I love the option of choosing two middle names. I think your name is lovely, and whatever you choose, your name will be even more beautiful.

Good luck in your self-naming journey!
