We’ve had trouble finding a name for our third little boy. Our other two boys also have 4-letter, 1-syllable, uncommon but not unheard of names. We were really starting like the name [name]Bram[/name] (it’s short, simple, and stylish), but our last name is quite similar to Stoker, so that will probably be a strong association for many people when they read/hear the name. Does that automatically make the name sound too dark? WDYT?
I’m a huge fan of “short, simple, stylish” boy names, and [name]Bram[/name] is high on that list! However, it would really depend on how similar that LN is…could make it a no-go.
You might like- Ames, [name]Hart[/name], [name]Lev[/name], [name]Worth[/name], [name]Dane[/name], [name]Rhett[/name], [name]Thane[/name], [name]Hays[/name], Frayne, [name]Flynn[/name]
Thanks for the feedback. We have considered several of the names you suggested. Our last name is only a few letters away from Stoker so I keep trying to let it go, but haven’t been able to yet.
I don’t think it would make the name too dark, but it might seem like you are huge [name]Bram[/name] Stoker fans. I love [name]Bram[/name] Stoker, but I think it would be a bit of a deal breaker for me if it was too similar. Not sure. I really like [name]Bram[/name].
It’s not my cup of tea, it feels a bit nicknamey to me as [name]Bram[/name] is a short form of [name]Abraham[/name], but I wouldn’t say it’s too dark. If your surname’s similar to Stoker though I might leave it off.
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]BRAM[/name]!! Yes, I would use it, but probably as a nn for [name]Bramwell[/name] or [name]Abram[/name]. I don’t really like [name]Abraham[/name]. However, if your last name is similar to Stoker, maybe you would consider [name]Brant[/name], [name]Bran[/name], Bronn/[name]Braun[/name] or [name]Brom[/name]? [name]Bryn[/name] can be a boy’s name too, but personally I like it for girls better since it sounds too feminine. I know a guy named [name]Bryn[/name] though.
Some other 4 letter, 1 syllable boy’s names:
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Noel[/name]
[name]Dean[/name]
[name]Dane[/name]
[name]Dash[/name]
[name]Nash[/name]
[name]West[/name]
[name]Hale[/name]
[name]Cade[/name]
[name]Jove[/name]
[name]Mars[/name]
[name]Mace[/name]
[name]Jace[/name]
[name]Jett[/name]
[name]Boon[/name]
[name]Cord[/name], I like it spelled Chord better though, then it is a musical name
I’ve probably named at least one of the names you gave to your sons!
Good luck!
[name]Love[/name], love, love [name]Bram[/name]! Would totally use it.
[name]Bram[/name] is nice. If it’s too close for comfort maybe [name]Graham[/name] would work?
I think of the icecream brand
Would changing the spelling to [name]Brahm[/name] make it different enough?
It becomes less name-like, and more like an homage to the composer, [name]Brahms[/name].
I don’t think “[name]Bram[/name] Stokker” is too dark, but it’s too close to a famous name. You’d avoid it for the same reason the Cruises would never have a [name]Thomas[/name], or the Potters would hold off on [name]Harris[/name]. You want your son to have his own name and not have his way in the world overshadowed by someone famous.
I think you subconsciously agree, hence your indecision.
You’ve had a lot of good suggestions; what else is on your list? And is it possible to know your other sons’ names?
I agree wholeheartedly with [name]Blade[/name] & suggest that if you are OK with sharing your other boys’ names you would probably then receive lots of great suggestions suited to your style.
For my 2 cents worth I always loved [name]Jude[/name] or [name]Zane[/name].
I think it is not the best choice. Great name but not with your last name. There are so many wonderful names that using one that can possibly get your son teased a lot would not be my choice.
I love the name but if it doesn’t feel right with the last name then I would keep looking.
Some other short, to the point boys names (sorry for repeats) :
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Sam[/name]
[name]Rhett[/name]
[name]Dane[/name]
[name]Keith[/name]
That being said, I think [name]Bram[/name] is really handsome, and I hope you figure out something that makes you happy!
As “brahm,” yes, as “bram” (like bramble) no.
Since your name isn’t Stoker, I’d say go for it. Unless it’s something like Shtoker…then no. But if it’s Toker or Loker etc… I think it would be fine to use the name [name]Bram[/name].
It depends on the last name, honestly. I would have to hear it to know if it was close enough. But if it’s super close yeah that’d be a deal breaker for me. Dig [name]Bram[/name] Stoker, but not enough to associate my kid with him for the rest of my life.

Thank you for all of the wonderful name suggestions. Most of the other names we have considered have been mentioned in the above posts (including both of our other sons’ names). It’s just been difficult to find names that my husband and I agree on, but I really appreciate the feedback.
Personally, I think of “[name]Bram[/name] Stoker” just when I hear the name [name]Bram[/name].
If last name is actually close to Stoker…it is a definite association for me. Maybe too much.
