What do you think? I first heard the name [name_u]Wren[/name_u] on a male character in Pretty [name_m]Little[/name_m] Liars so I initially thought that it’s a masculine name. I know that [name_f]Lark[/name_f] is mostly used a girl’s name, but I feel like it could work (as a MN) for a boy as well. Thoughts?
[name_f]Lark[/name_f] has never ranked in the Top 1000 for either gender. It’s very uncommon and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] even more so so I consider them unisex.
[name_f]Lark[/name_f] is on both my boy and girl list as a fn, but it’s closeness to [name_m]Clark[/name_m] makes me prefer it for boys. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] isn’t a favorite but I like it for both genders.
I personally would use them only as female names. I love [name_u]Wren[/name_u].
I actually prefer [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] for a boy instead of just plain [name_f]Lark[/name_f]. When I hear [name_f]Lark[/name_f] I think of [name_f]Lark[/name_f] Voorhies from Saved by the [name_u]Bell[/name_u].
I know a male [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Lark[/name_f] (actually, it’s [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u] [name_u]Larkin[/name_u]). I think they work fine with on either gender. There’s nothing girly sounding about either that should keep them off a boy and they’re nature names so they are unisex.
In the bird world, there are plenty of male larks and wrens! I’ve never understood why so many nature names are automatically seen as girl names.
Neither name is common. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] sounds like it could go either way. I’ve met a few males named [name_f]Lark[/name_f], usually short for [name_u]Larkin[/name_u].
I personally love both! I’ve met plenty male and female [name_m]Robins[/name_m]. Why not a male [name_u]Wren[/name_u]?
scores high among nameberry users as a female name but I don’t know if anyone is actually being named that much?
I think male b/c of [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], but I also think female for the WRENS. Certainly the sound of the word feels male, like [name_u]REN[/name_u] in [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]. So I think it works.
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u] is a male name too, right? [name_f]Lark[/name_f] – could go either way.
[name_u]Ren[/name_u] sounds more masculine than [name_u]Wren[/name_u] to me. Indeed, I’ve heard it as a nickname for [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u].
Personally I like [name_f]Lark[/name_f] as a nn for [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], but I have a hard time seeing it as a stand alone masculine name. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] feels very feminine to me, but I can see how it would work well as a nn for a boy.
They’re so uncommon as names that I think it can work.
To me (personally) [name_f]Lark[/name_f] sounds male and I like the pp’s suggestion of it as a nn for [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] sounds female.
However since your kid will be the only one with this name (I am sure), you will get to set the gender.
I think [name_u]Wren[/name_u] works better for a boy then a girl…
([name_u]Ren[/name_u] is better on a girl, however I still feel it to be more of a male name.)
[name_f]Lark[/name_f] is not a name I would use, I do like [name_u]Larkin[/name_u] though, and I feel it too is a male name.
