Wondered what your opinions were on these names?
I like simple feminine names. I like the Scottish connection of [name]Rona[/name] and the Irish connection of [name]Mara[/name]. Not crazy about some of the meanings of [name]Mara[/name] (bitter, nightmare, death) so would probably go with the Irish ‘of the sea’.

As I see them together I cannot help but think of [name]Rooney[/name] [name]Mara[/name], the actress. Neither name is my favorite but [name]Mara[/name] is not bad. [name]Rona[/name] is not bad either but I would not be sure on how to pronounce it as Roo-na, Row-na or something else, so I think that could get confusing.
I really like [name]Mara[/name] but with [name]Rona[/name], I think of [name]Rooney[/name] [name]Mara[/name] also (although I love the name [name]Rooney[/name]).
[name]Rona[/name] is the name of a couple of Scottish islands, pronounced Row-na. It’s also spelled [name]Rhona[/name], but that seems dated to me.
[name]Mara[/name], yes, was inspired by [name]Rooney[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] [name]Mara[/name].
I wasn’t actually thinking of them together, I just happened to come across the the same day and they have the same feel to me, short, sweet and different.
I prefer [name]Mara[/name].
I think [name]Rona[/name] and [name]Mara[/name] are both nice names (but not together). Some other suggestions are: [name]Ione[/name], [name]Iona[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Moira[/name], [name]Maura[/name], [name]Maureen[/name].
If your going with the Irish definition then I like [name]Mara[/name] a little better than [name]Rona[/name]. I don’t know why but [name]Rona[/name] has a bit of a masculine feel to me. Maybe because it’s close to [name]Rune[/name] or [name]Roan[/name] or [name]Ronan[/name]. I’d still probably be more likely to go for [name]Rona[/name] since it’s less popular but [name]Mara[/name]'s definitely the more feminine of the two imo.
I like [name]Mara[/name] a little better as well. It makes me think of the sea, because of the Spanish word mar. I like [name]Rona[/name] too, although I think that it could be confusing to pronounce.
[name]Rona[/name] makes me think of the popular Building/Home Supply store of the same name. I think it’s a Canadian chain. Not a nice name for a child for me.
[name]Mara[/name] is nice, but too abrupt for my liking. I know a little girl named Mhairi, ([name]Mar[/name]-ee) which I prefer. The actual scottish name is [name]Mairi[/name]. (with an accent above the a I can’t make) [name]Just[/name] a thought.
I prefer [name]Rona[/name] of the two. No real reason, I actually like them both, but if I had to choose between the two I would choose [name]Rona[/name]. Makes sense because I love [name]Ronan[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Rowena[/name] and it has the same feel.
The title of your post did make me think [name]Rooney[/name] [name]Mara[/name], as pps have said, haha.
I love [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Rune[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] as well, maybe that’s why [name]Rona[/name] is appealing to me. But I can see the possible pronunciation, spelling problems and the lack of feminity. I just love the idea of a windswept Scottish island, but I’m really homesick, so that makes sense.
[name]Mara[/name] is growing on me. My only worry is my DD’s name is [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Calla[/name] and [name]Mara[/name] are a bit Calamari, aren’t they?
