Xanthe - honest thoughts

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! What are your general opinion on the name [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]?
How do you pronounce it?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know anyone with this name?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer it as a first name or a middle?

I like it. I grew up with a [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] and she’s had no issues with people pronouncing or spelling it (zan-thee). I think it’s fine for the first name spot!

I love it! I pronounce it ZAN-thee, I find it pretty and striking, with that cool X initial.

I know an [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], but no Xanthes. However, it’s used fairly consistently here in the UK (roughly 50-60 births per year for the past 15 years).

I like it in either first or middle spot, but I’d love my initial to be X so I’m going to throw in a vote for [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] as a first name :star:

I think [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is a cool name and I really like it. It has a similar vibe to [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], only much less popular. I say ZAN-thee, which is the only way I’ve heard it pronounced in the UK.

I love [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]! I pronounce it zan-thee. I don’t know anyone with this name but I wish I did. I love it as a first or middle. It’s a middle name on my shortlist but I’d use it as a first in a heartbeat.

I love love love [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]! It’s my favourite name! I pronounce it [name_u]Zan[/name_u]-thee, never heard it pronounced any other way. [name_f]Via[/name_f] hobbies, I know a 15 year old named [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] but apart from that, I know none.
I love it as a first name but a [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] in any part of the name would be great!

I would pronounce it ZAHN-thay, like [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f] (ee-AHN-thay). It isn’t my favorite, and I prefer [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]. It’s completely usable, but it just isn’t my style.

I pronounce Ianthe like Xanthe (Eye-an-thee)
Probably pronouncing it wrong but I prefer it pronounced like thisšŸ˜‚

Hmm…

I think [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is bright and upbeat. Very spunky. I would pronounce the name ZAN THEE and in my primary school there was a girl in the year below with this name. I think [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] works as both a first name & a middle great choice.

I love [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]! It’s my favorite X name.
I probounce it zan-thee. I’ve played around with this name on my list a lot, usually as a middle but have recently considered it as a first name. I haven’t run it by my partner yet but if he likes it then it’s going on our short list.

It reminds me of Xanax and I just can’t get past that.

Am I the only one who pronounces it as ZAHN-thay?

I agree. Also reminds me of xanthan gum.

Xanthe is okay. A little harsh for me but it’s kind of cute.

I also pronounce it zan-thee. I like it, but I would probably think it was a little bit pretentious in the first name spot. The Latin teacher at my old high school named her child [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] – that’s the only one I’ve heard of in real life, but I imagine it’s very unusual on a boy.

I quite like it! It’s very much my style, though has never really crept onto my list. I pronounce it /ˈzjƦn Īøi/ (ZAN-thee).
I know one [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], my friend’s 13-year-old little sister, and she wears it well.
I think it makes for an excellent first name, and you shouldn’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

I don’t know anyone with this name, it makes me think of private school girls but not in a bad way :joy: I like it but it’s definitely one of those quirky ā€œposhā€ names
