Xavier

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]?

[name_f]My[/name_f] sisters boyfriend has a toddler named Xavi0r ([name_m]Xavier[/name_m]), and I dont think im saying his name right. I know that sounds weird, but I pronounce it two different ways.

• Zay-vier (like savior)
• Igg-zay-vee-err

Is it weird that I can not pronounce [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] the way it should be pronounced? Its one name I can not pronounce correctly.

I pronounce it like ex-AY-vee-er

[name_m]Just[/name_m] ask him. Or ask your sister.

There is more than one pronunciation to be found. I personally would naturally say ZAV-ee-ay, but the only way to know how this specific child’s name is pronounced is to ask.

Names beginning with “X” should be pronounced with a “Z” by English speakers (ZAY-vee-er"). Other cultures pronounce the name differently.

I pronounce it ex-AY-vee-er, but technically, both pronunciations are correct. [name_f]My[/name_f] advice would be to ask her or to somehow get her to tell you without being obvious lol. Personally, I think it’s a lovely name with either pronunciation!

I say ZAY-vee-er. And I agree with mischa.

I have friends with a son [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. They explained it like this: its xylophone, not ex-xylophone. So its zayvier.
Other friends, less well knowledged I would say pronounce their sons name Ex xavier but hey thats their choice.
Apparently st francis [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] is pronounced the second way because there is an s before it, or else it would all run together.

I say ZAVE-yer, unless he is introduced to me as EX-zave-yer. For some reason, I’m more likely to say ZAVE-yer as a FN and ex-ZAVE-yer as a MN… I’m not sure why that is…

Im the same way! I had [name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Xaiver[/name_m] and I said that as egz-ay-ver. But this toddler I say zay-ver or igg-zay-ver

I say it like X-men’s [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. That was my only taste of the name growing up.

It’s Zay-vee-er. I love it, but would only put it in the middle spot so I wouldn’t have to listen to everyone pronouncing it wrong.
