A name that’s been on our minds for No.4 is [name_u]Yael[/name_u]. Actually, we have considered it for all kids but never actually used it because we had read it means mountain goat and the bible story on the name is not too favorable either, but that actually does not bother me much anymore I think. At least not enough to not use the name.
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? Any associations? Does it work for a girl? (we love unisex names so that’s not an issue) Does it sound too biblical for you? (we are not religious and have so far avoided using biblical names as first names)
I pronounce [name_u]Yael[/name_u] as Yah elle. I only know women with this name so I don’t see it as a unisex name personally. I really like this name for a girl, it’s compact and has a kind of playfulness to it. I would relate it to the [name_u]Yael[/name_u] I know, who is a kind and strong woman. The other is the singer [name_u]Yael[/name_u] [name_m]Naim[/name_m], she’s not overly populair by name here and I like her music so for me this association would not be a problem. We’re not religeous thus the bible reference was unkown and would not matter. [name_u]Yael[/name_u] does not seem biblical to me such as [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Judith[/name_f] who are more well known biblical figures.
I would pronounce it as yah-elle, too. I haven’t heard this name before, but I first tought of a jewish boy when I read it. But if I met a little girl named [name_u]Yael[/name_u] I wouldn’t think twice about it. And from what nameberry tells me [name_u]Yael[/name_u] was a woman in the bible so I don’t think it would be a problem.

It’s lovely. I’d pronounce either “YAH-el”, “yah-[name_f]EL[/name_f]” or “[name_u]YALE[/name_u]” - I’ve never met one so not 100% sure how it should sound, but I much prefer it the first or second way. I think it’s beautiful for a girl or boy!
I knew a girl from [name_m]Israel[/name_m] who’s name was [name_u]Yael[/name_u]. She pronounced it like [name_u]Yale[/name_u], but you could probably do either pronunciation.
I like it. I pronounce it ya-[name_f]ELL[/name_f] but don’t know if that is correct. I think of it as a Jewish/Israeli name. I think the only one I know of is the actress [name_u]Yael[/name_u] Grobglas.

I would say YAH-elle. I think this name is beautiful. Hadn’t heard of it until watching [name_f]Jane[/name_f] the Virgin. The character [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is played by the actress [name_u]Yael[/name_u] Grobglas, who is lovely.
There was a woman on a TV series whose name was [name_u]Jael[/name_u], which is the same name as [name_u]Yael[/name_u]. She pronounced it jy-el so I would pronounce it yigh-el or yah-el.
