You and your siblings

If this is too personal someone give me the heads up and I’ll delete it.

I’m the oldest of 5 girls, no brothers and always thought how difficult of a time I’d have naming 5 girls of my own. [name]Do[/name] you think your parents did a good job naming you and your siblings? [name]Do[/name] your names match, is there a theme, completely off the wall…?

These are my siblings in order of birth (all girls) -

[name]Lisa[/name] [name]Dawn[/name] - That’s me. I was almost [name]Sunshine[/name] phew, I should be grateful for the compromise of [name]Dawn[/name] in the middle.
[name]Tamera[/name] [name]Marie[/name] nn [name]Tami[/name] - [name]Marie[/name] our great grandmothers middle name. Her first was Mirpah. Close one.
[name]Kristina[/name] [name]Renee[/name] - She was almost [name]Andrea[/name] [name]Renee[/name]. I’ve always loved [name]Renee[/name]. She’s never gone by a nn and I hated when some people tried to call her [name]Kris[/name].
[name]Ashley[/name] [name]Diane[/name] - Almost [name]Rebecca[/name] or [name]Blair[/name] if she was a boy. I was told she was a boy at birth, she’s born on [name]April[/name] Fool’s [name]Day[/name].
[name]April[/name] [name]Violet[/name] - the third daughter born in [name]April[/name]. Maybe my mom ran out of ideas. [name]Violet[/name] was our great grandmothers first name her middle was [name]Harriet[/name]. She passed away before we were born.

I just thought it would be interesting to see the sibsets of the past since we are all thinking of sibsets for the present or the future.

Well I have two sisters and a brother, all older than me. So in order;

[name]Bernice[/name] [name]Lynn[/name], Warwick [name]John[/name], [name]Marcia[/name] [name]Louise[/name]. Different mum though and so different naming style.

Me = [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Sister[/name] = [name]Miranda[/name] [name]Helen[/name]

I think my mum did a good job. [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Miranda[/name] both a have historical/literary feel to me (they both appear in [name]Shakespeare[/name] e.g.) as well as have lots of nn possibility.
They also, accidentally, contain 7 letters and 3 syllables and end with the same sound ([name]Eleanor[/name] in UK is prn ‘[name]EL[/name]-?-n?’)

What my mum wishes now is that she also gave [name]Miranda[/name] a 2nd mn as I have.

Well, you know me, Disa, nothing is too personal for me to divulge to the entire world!!!

I am [name]AILSA[/name] [name]JOYCE[/name]
and I have a younger adopted sister, [name]ALISON[/name] [name]MARY[/name]

We got our middle names because my mother is [name]JOYCE[/name] [name]MARY[/name], and I know I have drawn the short straw with mine, and spend a great part of my life cursing my mother. (joking).

I also think she chose names - [name]Ailsa[/name] and [name]Alison[/name] - that are FAR too alike in spelling and sound and initial letter. I can still walk down to the village now and meet people who call out cheerily “Hello [name]Alison[/name]!” . So I am either being called a name that they can’t pronounce and spell ([name]Ailsa[/name] is invariably [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Alisa[/name], Aisla etc) or else I am being called my sister.

But enough grumbling!

I am looking forward to hearing about everyone else’s siblings!

xx

I’m [name]Alice[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] and my older sister is [name]Lauren[/name] [name]Emma[/name]. I love my name but my sister is just ok with hers. She thinks it sounds weird lol. I’ve always thought that it’s strange how our names are really different in style. [name]Alice[/name] is kinda old fashioned whereas [name]Lauren[/name] is a lot more modern. Btw i love your name [name]Ailsa[/name]!

I am [name]Winifred[/name] [name]Alice[/name] [name]Clotilde[/name], although (thankfully) I have been called [name]Winnie[/name] for my entire life. I would hate to have a common name, and I love that people who meet me will continue to associate my name with only me! I dislike the ‘fred’ in my name, but I can’t imagine myself suiting anything else, after all these years. [name]Alice[/name] is very popular over here, so I am glad that it is not my first name, and the ‘clot’ in [name]Clotilde[/name] makes me thankful that that was relegated to a mn, too!

My elder brother and sister are [name]Clovis[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] [name]Aubrey[/name] and [name]Adamina[/name] [name]Maria[/name] [name]Calanthe[/name] ([name]Mina[/name] most of the time).

I would say our names are similar enough in style and (non-existant) popularity to be a good fit, and I like that both my sister’s and my name contain a male name element ([name]Fred[/name] and [name]Adam[/name]). I’ve always been jealous of her for [name]Calanthe[/name], though!

in order of who was born first:

my brother : [name]Luke[/name] [name]Anthony[/name]
me : [name]Rose[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
sister: [name]Poppy[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
youngest sister :[name]Hermione[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

I think my parents did well with our names i think my youngest sister was glad she wasnt a boy as my mum wanted to call her [name]Hamish[/name] the other option was [name]Tallulah[/name] and [name]Hermione[/name] is definitely [name]Hermione[/name] and not a [name]Tallulah[/name]! I think we all like our names ( i know i do) though poppy had an issue with her name as our surname begins with P
( thus polly pocket jokes plus there were very few [name]Poppy[/name]'s around in the 80’s).
My parents said they were never set on a name until we were born and then decided what name would fit us best out of their list!

[name]Joy[/name] [name]Ann[/name]
[name]Susan[/name] [name]Gaye[/name]
[name]Dana[/name] [name]Diane[/name] (me)

My sisters tease I should have been “[name]Merry[/name];” [name]Susan[/name] had to go by [name]Gaye[/name] until she was 14 and then she changed to [name]Susan[/name] (too much teasing). I am much younger, and therefore am not part of the theme.

Im [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Elizabeth[/name] is my moms middle name and [name]Sophie[/name] Is just her favorite name at the time.
My [name]Sister[/name] is [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Blaire[/name]. I pretty sure she likes her name, because she named her daughter [name]Alexis[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]. [name]Blaire[/name] is my Grandmas maiden name i plan to use it for my daughter too.

MY brother is [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Jon[/name] nn [name]Nathan[/name] i thinks he likes it but not to sure. [name]Jon[/name] is my Dads midle name im not a big fan.

In order of age:

[name]Ethan[/name] [name]John[/name]
[name]Reuben[/name] [name]Joel[/name]
[name]James[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Josiah[/name]
[name]Elisabeth[/name] [name]Mary[/name] (that’s me!)
[name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]

As you can see, they’re all rather Biblical/[name]Christian[/name], which was the plan.

The reason why my middle name is [name]Mary[/name], and then my younger sister got called [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name], is because when Mum was pregnant with me, they couldn’t decide between [name]Elisabeth[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] for the girl’s name. (I would have been [name]Peter[/name] if I’d have been a boy). As I ended up being born a couple of weeks before my due date, and thus arrived on [name]Christmas[/name] [name]Eve[/name], that made the decision for them as they thought it would be cruel to give the name [name]Mary[/name] to a girl born on [name]Christmas[/name] [name]Eve[/name] (imagine the jokes). However, they used it as a middle name, in case they didn’t have another daughter.

They obviously did end up having another daughter, and they toyed with the idea of calling her [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Sarah[/name], but they really wanted to use [name]Mary[/name] as a first name, so instead they went with [name]Mary[/name]-[name]Jane[/name].

I think our names all go together really well, although I’ve never liked the name [name]Ethan[/name], but I have never told my parents that obviously!

I like all those names, Elsabea, but yours is the nicest! I like your sister’s name too. Is your whole family interested in names too? [name]How[/name] nice to BE one of five, and then to HAVE five children as well!

In order:

[name]Tara[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Aaron[/name] [name]Robert[/name]
[name]Aric[/name] [name]Lee[/name]

[name]Aric[/name] came around much later and although the style isn’t quite the same, the sound works nicely. I love my name and just wish my married last name went as nicely as the original!

[name]Timothy[/name] [name]Warren[/name] - my brother
[name]Kathleen[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] - my sister
[name]Deborah[/name] [name]Sue[/name] (me, but I changed my name to Chuka [name]Susan[/name])

Thanks [name]Ailsa[/name].

I’m one of six though - we’re four boys and two girls.

We are going to have a sixth ourselves, just not yet!!!

OOPS! My only excuse for the poor mathematics is that I was posting very late at night!!!

[name]Erica[/name] [name]Nicole[/name] (That’s me!) - My mom liked [name]Erica[/name], Dad liked [name]Nicole[/name]…this was their compromise
[name]Cody[/name] [name]John[/name] - [name]John[/name] is my uncle’s name
[name]Alia[/name] R. [name]Joy[/name] - The “R” stands for a bunch of family names, plus it sounds like “our joy”…There’s 9 years between me and my sister (6 between [name]Cody[/name] and [name]Alia[/name]). She was a “surprise” and mom and dad didn’t want her to think that they didn’t want her.

I’m a little bummed that my name doesn’t really have a fun story to it…but overall I’ve been pretty happy with it. [name]Nicole[/name] was a little too common in my generation (I’m 24), but at least it wasn’t [name]Marie[/name]!

Mom’s a little upset at how common our names have gotten. She said she chose them because they weren’t popular. I had never met an [name]Alia[/name] before she was born, and my mom actually thought she made it up. She found [name]Lia[/name], but found it a bit plain…so she added the “A”…now its SUPER popular. She’s always been the only one in her class, though. [name]Cody[/name] and I were also the only one’s in our class, but there were others in grades around us.

My name is [name]Raquel[/name] [name]Marianne[/name]. I used to HATE my name when I was growing up, but now I really like it.

My brother’s is [name]Brett[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] ([name]Joseph[/name] after my dad).

[name]Both[/name] of our names are very unique for our time. But my name always got butchered. I’ve been called [name]Rochelle[/name] and [name]Rachel[/name] countless times! [name]Even[/name] when I would tell someone my name, they would butcher it, so I ALWAYS would say, “no, [name]Raquel[/name], like [name]Raquel[/name] [name]Welch[/name]” Then they would get it.
Also, [name]Raquel[/name] is a hispanic name, and we are not. But I do have dark skin (especially in the summer), so when I worked for grocery store (due to my name tag), I would have hispanic people come up to me and start talking to me in Spanish.

My brother’s name I always sort of disliked, b/c I have always been a big fan on a name needing to be more than one syllable. I just don’t think the impact is there w/ a one syllable name when ur yelling at them, or trying to get ur point across! So, I would always call my brother Brettrick when I was mad at him. lol

It’s not very exiting:
[name]Annika[/name] (me)
[name]Dana[/name] (my sister)

I also have two step brothers. They both have different parents, so there is no continuancy in style. Their names are: [name]Moritz[/name] [name]Ren[/name]” ([name]Ren[/name]” after his mother [name]Renate[/name]) and [name]Luka[/name] [name]Drago[/name] ([name]Drago[/name] after his father).

I always liked [name]Dana[/name]'s name better than mine, because [name]Dana[/name] it is much less common here (I know it’s the other way around in the US though) and I did not like that we don’t have middle names, even though a lot of my relatives, especially in my generation, don’t have one.

In order of age:

[name]Brooke[/name] [name]Michelle[/name]
[name]Emily[/name] Lapham [name]Olson[/name] (me)
[name]Evan[/name] [name]Britton[/name] [name]Olson[/name] (f)

[name]Brooke[/name] is from my fathers first marriage and 11 years older than me. Her names were two of her mothers favorite soap opera characters.
[name]Emily[/name], as far as I know, was the first name my mother was able to convince my father of. Lapham is my maternal g-mother’s maiden name, and [name]Olson[/name] is my fathers last name ([name]Evan[/name] and I both go by our mothers surname).
[name]Evan[/name] was named after our uncle and great g-father. [name]Britton[/name] was our paternal g-mother’s maiden.
