What names make you crazy every time you hear it? Not completely out there names like [name]Nimrod[/name], because honestly, who really thinks this is masked genius? I’m talking about those names that you keep reading and always abhor.
[name]Blythe[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name] and [name]Forrest[/name] took some getting used to for me as well, but the alternative spellings [name]Blithe[/name], [name]Talula[/name] and [name]Forest[/name] made me love them, and I would now consider them all for my own children! [name]Blithe[/name] in particular becomes so much lighter spelled like this! It goes from being clunky and odd to being streamlined and sweet… ^^
All -son names are horrid for me. Be they for girls or boys… The only ones I accept are [name]Morrison[/name] and [name]Edison[/name], although I much prefer [name]Morrisey[/name] over [name]Morrison[/name].
I never liked [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Alexandra[/name] either… They just seem very obnoxious to me for some reason.
Or names with a double-s apart from [name]Cressida[/name], [name]Cassiopeia[/name] and [name]Thessaly[/name]. [name]Alyssa[/name], [name]Alessandra[/name], [name]Alessandro[/name], [name]Clarissa[/name], [name]Cassandra[/name], [name]Jessamine[/name] and [name]Jessica[/name] etc. are all dreadful to me…
[name]Christopher[/name] [name]Christina[/name], [name]Kristin[/name], and [name]Christian[/name] are also like that, more or less all [name]Chris[/name]- names… christian is so OVERUSED in Norway where I live, they’re just horrible to my ears! The only ones I can live with are [name]Christiana[/name] and Chryseis…
Also, there are VERY few J names and K names I like… I just don’t see the fascination with K and J names Americans in particular seems to have… I can live with [name]Junia[/name], [name]Justus[/name], [name]Justine[/name], [name]Joy[/name], [name]Klaus[/name] and [name]Katharina[/name] but the rest are mainly nowhere near my lists except for [name]Joss[/name] and [name]Jody[/name] as boy middle names
Neaveh - I hate this too
[name]Blythe[/name] - I must admit, I’m not a [name]Blythe[/name] fan like most of the other people here. I looked up the meaning though, and it’s “free spirit, happy, carefree” and I really love that. I love names with great meanings like that, so I’m starting to like [name]Blythe[/name] a little more. I don’t think it will ever make my list, but, never say never!
[name]Ava[/name] - I also never got this one until recently. Sure, it’s pretty, but what’s all the fuss about? I really love it now, it’s got a steamlined beauty. Simple but glamorous.
[name]Tallulah[/name] - Haha, I’ve always liked [name]Tallulah[/name]. I can definitely see why people don’t, but I think it’s just so fun.
[name]Forrest[/name] - I’m on the fence. I still think of Gump, but if people can get past that, I see the appeal. I mean, Forests are cool. It’s outdoorsy, uncommon but not unheard of.
This is tough. Some names just aren’t my style but appreciate them.
Let see if I can think of any I just really don’t like. Most will probably be dated.
Girls
[name]Betsey[/name] - I remember my mom talking about having a [name]Betsey[/name] Wetsy doll. I wonder
if that is why I don’t like this name. This is my #1 dislike.
[name]Amber[/name]/[name]Ember[/name]
[name]Brittany[/name]
[name]Brianna[/name]
[name]Celine[/name] - love the meaning but it makes me think of saline solution.
[name]Charity[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] - Blame my dislike on the song.
[name]Melody[/name] - bad association. I love the meaning.
[name]Elodie[/name] - reminds me too much of the above.
[name]Sara/name - however I do love [name]Serra[/name]
[name]Nevaeh[/name]
There are more that I don’t really like but can see the appeal.
I’m sure I could add to the above but I’m drawing a blank.
Boys
[name]Bryce[/name] - bad association.
[name]Brayden[/name]
[name]Brandon[/name] - I use to like this one but there are too many similar names.
[name]Brendon[/name]
[name]Brennan[/name] - alone they are okay but it seems like I hear these names ALL of the time.
I can never remember who is who.
[name]Connor[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Jayden[/name]
Any “K” names for boys.
[name]Steven[/name] - probably wont be hearing it on any new babies.
[name]Tristan[/name] - I’m VERY slowly warming to this name VERY slowly.
It reminds me too much of [name]Kristen[/name] to work for a boy.
Some boys’ names that were too common not that long ago - [name]Jason[/name], [name]Zachary[/name]. Note that I’m not sick of the girls’ names - [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Amy[/name], [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Amanda[/name], etc.
Most Old Testament names - [name]Elijah[/name]/[name]Elias[/name]/[name]Eli[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Joshua[/name], [name]Jacob[/name], etc. Now adding “too common” to their previous downsides, “too religious for me” and “sound awkward in English”.
I can’t work up too much anger at all the [name]Chris[/name] forms; there are just too many.
[name]Faith[/name]. I can stand the secular virtues, but not this one.
My definition of “dated” isn’t “1950s-1980s”. It’s more like “pre-1930s”. I still can’t get many of the names that I see here all the time. Examples, whether they’re “back” or not: [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Norah[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Maisie[/name]…
[name]Charlotte[/name]. I like many French names, but - actually, is there any CH-name I don’t dislike?
GIRLS
[name]Madison[/name] - not pretty at all, too masculine (common, it means "son of [name]Maude[/name]!!!)
[name]Addison[/name] - a girl? “son of [name]Adam[/name]”, grrrrr
[name]Layla[/name] - I just don’t like it
[name]Chloe[/name] - it just kinda irks me
[name]Alexa[/name] - seems unfinished to me
[name]Ashley[/name], [name]Kayla[/name], [name]Kylie[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name] - I have this special category of names which I find overused and fad no matter what - it’s this category.
[name]Brooklyn[/name] - no for me
[name]Miley[/name] - why? What?
[name]Nevaeh[/name] - agree with all the above
BOYS
[name]Jaden[/name], [name]Caden[/name], [name]Braden[/name], [name]Hayden[/name], etc. - same thing as with [name]Ashley[/name] and [name]Kayla[/name] category
[name]Ethan[/name] - ethanol
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Tyler[/name]
