This is their cousin and the last inhabitant of the house. She’s a little bit younger than AJ, but she’s always felt older. Probably because her parents had her late in life (her mom was 46 and her dad was 58). For the most part, they were fantastic parents, but they treated her more like an adult than a kid, especially when it came to being an assistant caretaker for her dad, who developed severe health problems when she was in middle school. After she graduated early from high school, took on a part-time job, and started having panic attacks during her college classes because she was so worried about something happening to her dad when she was gone, her parents realized how much strain they had put on her. They arranged for a live-in nurse and convinced her to hold off on having a job for now so she’s not pulled in so many directions. After almost a year, she felt confident and stable enough to move out and stay with her cousins so she could be within walking distance to school. She loves going on nature walks, as well as writing poetry, visiting art museums, and watching documentaries. She visits her parents frequently but is better at maintaining healthy boundaries. They all are.

This is a female calico cat, a stray cat found by a staff member. She loves distinct smells and purrs a lot. She is currently pregnant and staying in the shelter until her kittens are born. She is not currently up for adoption at the moment as her kittens need to be born and old enough to be weaned off their mother alongside the fact that she will be spayed after the births. However, she’s always a cute and fun cat at the shelter nd gets lots of love!

This wild-looking kitty is actually the biggest softie. She loves to cuddle and show off all her toys and even plays fetch! She’s been at the shelter for a few months, ever since a family had to let her go due to losing employment and moving to a cheaper place that doesn’t allow pets. The youngest child of that family was absolutely devastated and takes a bus ride across town every weekend to come say hi to her favorite furball.

This 1-year-old bunny was kept in the shelter weeks after her birth to protect her after her birth mother contracted rabies. She doesn’t really seem to understand she’s a rabbit and [name_f]Rorie[/name_f] is a cat and loves to snuggle [name_f]Rorie[/name_f]. The staff were worried at first that [name_f]Rorie[/name_f] would attack the bunny for her small size but [name_f]Rorie[/name_f] loves the bunny. This bunny is very sweet and has her own cage and a few cute little bunny toys as well!

This German-Shepherd Husky mix has been with the shelter since he was a puppy. He was left in a box on the side of the road along with his siblings, who have all been adopted. He’s lonely now, so the staff members do their best to play with him often and take him on different walking routes so he has new things to explore. But he definitely needs a home soon where he can be free to run around in a much bigger yard and use all his pent-up energy (which he currently uses by chewing all of his toys to bits, jumping up on everyone he meets and licking their face, and trying to escape his leash so he can chase squirrels, birds, and cars). He’d probably be a lot of work, but he’s worth it because he’s got a lot of love to give.

The co-owner of the shelter who founded it with her best friend - after the two decided the local area didn’t have enough shelters. Right now they have no plans on a major expansion though, as they want to ensure their current animals are getting enough love and attention; not to mention the costs could become too much if they’re taking in animals non-stop (as much as they’d love to). She’s 28 and lives on-site with her best friend/co-owner, and their employee is in the process of moving in too - as the travel distance was a lot and through an attic conversion, more space has been accessed. Animal rights are something she’s very serious about, and you’ll only find her taking time off work to attend protests or regulation meetings

This is Cameron 's best friend and co-owner who lives on site with them. She is significantly (more than 5 years) younger than them and Cameron actually used to babysit her when they were a teen. The two of them grew up on the same street and her family was getting along well with Cameron’s. Cameron helped her build quiet confidence in what she wants to do and helped her stand up to her childhood bullies with snarky remakrs and comments. They eventually grew close like sisters and it helped that they both showed huge devotion to animal rights and went to protests together - Cameron actually took her to her first one on her 18th birthday which she sees as the best present ever recieved from anyone. When she’s not working in the shelter she tries to spread her ideas by using her influencer platfrom. She’s a Youtuber who plays mostly family friendly games like Animal Crossing and the Sims on her livestreams but also shares make-up and beauty tips.

This is the final housemate and staff member of the shelter. She’s good with animals (better than she is with people, she likes to joke) but she isn’t nearly as passionate about animals as the other two. She just really needed a job and a place to stay while she saves up for… whatever it is she wants to do in life. She’s struggled with depression since she was in her early teens and just recently (after years of doctor’s visits) got a diagnosis: Depersonalization-derealization disorder, or DPD. It’s not a very well-known condition, so she doesn’t know how to talk to anyone about it, except for her parents, who don’t really understand it but are trying their best to support her. She thinks Cress and Cameron would be supportive, too, and she’s slowly opening up to them more, but she doesn’t plan to stick around in her hometown forever, so she’s not sure if it’s worth mentioning. Then again… she doesn’t want to leave Cress and Cameron stranded. They were so grateful when she showed up on their doorstep, holding the “Now Hiring” sign, because they really needed the help. Plus, they just got a fifth animal that has deeply bonded with her…

He’s a 3-year-old black kitty and Meilin’s best friend outside the other staff. The staff know about the stereotypes associated with black cats and how they tend to be less likely to be adopted because of it. They never allow him to be up for adoption in [name_u]October[/name_u] due to Halloween or allow Itzi to be adopted in March-April due to [name_f]Easter[/name_f]. They fear these pets could be harmed or neglected during or after the holiday. [name_f]Meilin[/name_f] loves this cat and considers him emotional support. Should he be adopted out, he deserves a loving home forever.

This little man is the newest member of the family who lives in this giant house. When he’s not sleeping (and he sleeps a lot due to a minor heart condition), he’s staring at everything with a surprising pensiveness, especially when people play music or sing.

This 2-year old guinea pig is loved by the family, especially the children. [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] himself doesn’t play with her as he is too little and sleeping most of the time but he is semi-familiar with her squeaks and purring and it puts him in a good mood.

This is Jonah’s aunt, who’s the sister-in-law of his father, and the person who purchased Butterscotch. She’s originally from Croatia, having chosen to study abroad when she turned nineteen, which is how she met her husband, and subsequently chose to stay to be with him. They got married shortly after graduation, something both of the couples parents were a little wary of due to how young they were, but five years on, the 28 year olds’ are just as happy as they were in the early days of coffee shop meet ups and navigating studying with their first anniversaries. She works as a midwife in a specialist clinic for women who’ve experienced traumatic birth’s already and gave Jonah’s mother a lot of advice through her own pregnancy - solicited though. To some people she’s a little awkward, she’s definitely someone who’ll shrink back at large gatherings and busy herself in the back, but she loves her family dearly; especially her parents and brothers in Croatia, who she tries to visit whenever possible. Interestingly, she’s kept her maiden name in spite of being married, as she wants to keep her culture and nationality front and centre.

This 28-year-old is Zvonimira’s husband and Jonah’s uncle (the closest sibling in age to Jonah’s dad). While his beloved wife tends to keep to her quiet, introspective self, he is an extrovert with a constant need to go, go, go! Especially outdoors. He hikes, he swims, he runs marathons, he dirtbikes, he camps, and he collects rocks and pictures everywhere he goes. He’s had 12 different jobs in the past 5 years because, as he says, how will he know what he wants to do in life if he doesn’t try everything? He has so much excitement and passion for big and little things, but he can be so gentle, too. Like with [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], who he’s enamored with because he really wants kids. He’s trying (albeit struggling) to be patient for Zvonimira to be ready. Right now, she’s 110% focused on helping her patients, and even though he doesn’t fully understand how she can have so much empathy and wisdom for an experience she’s never had, he loves that about her. Honestly, what doesn’t he love about her? He comes up with new things to compliment and praise her with every day. He tries to do that with everyone he loves: his parents, his siblings, his grandparents, even Butterscotch the guinea pig. He just wants everyone to feel loved and seen, like they belong.

This is Hugo’s brother - only his senior by 13 months - who’s the father of Jonah. He’s the person Hugo confides in about his own desire to have children, and does his best to remind him that Jonah’s conception wasn’t actually planned, but something he and his girlfriend discovered unexpectedly: leading to them calling Jonah their ‘surprise present’ affectionately. Marriage isn’t something the couple are intending on having happen anytime soon now their son’s born, as they want him to actively be involved in the celebrations - and truthfully, they think they might want to have another kid before then anyways…
Working as a freelance artist who primarily works on murals in public spaces, he’s jokingly called ‘the dreamer’ by his parents on account of how absentminded he used to be: but fatherhood’s caused him to become much more focused. Jonah’s heart condition worries him at times, even though it’s thankfully safely monitored and under control, but he doesn’t want to overbear on his son’s life and goes to his grandma for advice: as she was born with cerebral palsy and faced a lot of stigma, as well as restriction due to prejudices. This is something he’s determined to prevent Jonah facing, and already has painted images associated with strength throughout the nursery.

This 8-year-old male cat was Miles‘s cat that eventually became the whole family’s cat. [name_u]Miles[/name_u] and his girlfriend wanted to know what it was like to care for something together so they got this cool furball. This of course, was before they had [name_u]Jonah[/name_u], and the transition from caring for a cat together to caring for a child together was a stretch, but a worthy step for their relationship. This isn’t to say that the cat doesn’t play a role in their lives anymore — this cat is very sociable and relieves a lot of stress. The best part is, he’s a cat the whole family can enjoy.

The oldest family member living in the house, this is [name_u]Miles[/name_u] and Hugo’s grandmother and Jonah’s great-grandmother. It was always her dream to have a big family, and she mourned for years that she only got to have one child due to a medical complication completely unrelated to her cerebral palsy (although “well-meaning” people would sometimes comment that it was probably a good thing that she only had one because of her cerebral palsy, which only made her sadness deeper). But now that her child and 3 grandchildren (and partners) and her 4 great-grandchildren live with her in a house they all renovated together… she feels like she’s finally achieved that dream.
If only her husband could be here to live the dream with her. He passed away a little less than a decade ago. He was the light of her life, and she talks about him often. That’s something everyone loves about her: the way she tells stories. She brings words to life, outloud, in stories and poems, and in music. She sings and plays the piano when she has the strength to. That’s what she did professionally for a while, and she has a grand piano that sits so beautifully in her sunlit music room near the front entrance of their home.

This is Miles’s girlfriend who is the mother of Jonah she didn’t want to settle down as the couple were travelling up until the pregnancy when they had to move in here because they do not have a permanent residency but she has grew to like it. Funny and naturally popular she thrives well in the large household. She is an estate agent and she loves her job because she gets to meet a lot of people

A 7-year-old son of the third couple not already mentioned. He’s achieved some of the milestones with his age: he’s lost a tooth, learned to ride a bike, but doesn’t quite have his own room due to siblings. He also has some achievements like never missing a day of school, having several best friends in his class, winning his classroom spelling bee, and making it in the school talent contest with his piano talents. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if he doesn’t win, he’s excited he’s made it. It’s his live-in great grandmother who taught him how to play and even the piano itself is a refurbished vintage piano passed down by the family decades ago.

She is Carl’s sister and she is no longer a child but not yet a teenager. She is friendly and excitable and she loves her brother and the other siblings that Carl and herself share, with no prejudice against anyone because of her innocent and trusting nature. She likes privacy though and she doesnt like the aspect of no privacy in the house but other than that she loves the living arrangment and her friends love how crowed and happy the house always is, whether it’s Betsy’s knitting club, Carl’s friends or one of Ashby’s psychics she hires.
