[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries,
So many of you have already helped me so much. You helped us come up with [name_f]Zella[/name_f] for our (about to be) adopted baby girl. Her birth mother loves it, so we’re all settled on that as her first name. The name itself is derivative of her birth mother’s first name, so I love that.
But now I’m struggling to figure out her middle name. [name_f]My[/name_f] first choice is [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] purely for aesthetics. [name_f]Zella[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is just…pretty.
There are others I keep coming back to, though, so I thought I’d ask for some advice.
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]: No special meaning. I just like it paired with [name_f]Zella[/name_f] and if, for some reason, she doesn’t like [name_f]Zella[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] offers another name choice with plenty of nicknames.
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]: Another berry suggested this one and I love it. [name_f]My[/name_f] only hesitation is that there’s part of me that still hopes to possibly use it as a first some day for another little girl.
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]: A very simple middle name, but captures how we feel about adding this little girl to the family. Plus it would mean she’d share a middle initial with her brother, which I think is sweet without being too matchy.
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]: Is this too many Ls? [name_u]Linden[/name_u] is a family name and I like it a lot, but I can’t tell if it flows.
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]: No special meaning. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a pretty, bright sounding name that I like the flow of.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]: Perhaps too simple? But [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is another family name and was my original choice before I came across [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]: I feel like this should be my obvious choice. It’s been the middle name of seven generations of women in my family. Why am I hesitating on this? Does it not sound right? Is it too plain next to [name_f]Zella[/name_f]? I’m not sure.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]: Short, sweet, and vintage sounding, which I like. No specific attachment to this one, but I like the name.
[name_f]Diamond[/name_f]: Definitely an outlier for me. I went through a list of the most popular names for [name_m]Black[/name_m] girls in the US, and thought I’d consider a few of those specifically in case that’s important for her identity (this child will be [name_m]Black[/name_m], but we are not so we want to be sensitive to preserving racial identity).
Which is your favorite? Any others that you’d suggest?
