[name]Hi[/name], all! My name is [name]Ashley[/name] and I’m rather new to posting but I have been reading the blog and forums here quite often. I’m years and years from having kids but I love learning about and discussing names.
Has anyone else ever been told that they look like a specific name? I’ve been told I look like a [name]Megan[/name]. I have dark eyes and goldish-brown hair, is that [name]Megan[/name]-like? I think it’s fun to guess names based on appearances or personality, I even have a tendency to assign names to people I see around relatively often but don’t actually know. I would love to know what experiences anyone has with being told “you look like a… (name)”.
Not really. I’m an [name]Ashleigh[/name] and changed my name to [name]Bella[/name] in grade 8 because I was so sick of turning my head whenever someone would call out to one of the 200 other [name]Ashley[/name]'s and have been told since then that I look more like a [name]Bella[/name] anyway. Have since decided to be [name]Isabel[/name] nn [name]Bella[/name] incase you were interested haha.
My name is [name]Kaitlin[/name] and people tell me all the time that I look exactly like a [name]Kaitlin[/name] should. I have medium brown hair and blue eyes.
I’ve also been told I look like a [name]Lydia[/name] or a [name]Hannah[/name]. And I had a customer at a former job, a regular, who constantly called me [name]Abby[/name]. I guess he just decided that’s what my name was, since we didn’t have name tags, and I just never corrected him.
You sound like a [name]Megan[/name] to me, but I think you could easily be an [name]Ashley[/name].
My friend once told me I looked like a [name]Jasmine[/name], everyone else seemed to agree. Later my mum revealed that she had wanted to call me [name]Yasmin[/name] (among other names) before I was born, and that I apparently look like a [name]Yasmin[/name] now. Which is funny because [name]Jasmine[/name] and [name]Yasmin[/name] sound alike. Who knows, maybe my dad thinks I’m a [name]Tasmin[/name]. ^^ I have dark brown hair, kinda long, and grey eyes, my skin is quite tanned (don’t know the word for it - olive, maybe?) and I’m kinda tall and spindly for my age. Not how I picture a [name]Jasmine[/name] or a [name]Yasmin[/name]. Honestly, I think I look like an [name]Amber[/name], because I am an [name]Amber[/name]! Lol.
I have also been told I look like a [name]Megan[/name]. I don’t think I do at all. I have blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. I would probably rename myself [name]Caroline[/name] or [name]Clara[/name].
I’ve been told I look like a [name]Sophie[/name], and a [name]Lindsey[/name]. I’m [name]Chloe[/name]. If I ever renamed myself I’d brother go with one of those two I guess…my mom was set on naming me [name]Lindsey[/name] [name]Lee[/name].
I agree that sometimes people are named things that they look nothing like. Me and my aunt called a gas station attendant [name]Mike[/name] for two years before we found out his real name was [name]Cory[/name], he looked nothing like a [name]Cory[/name] & we didn’t remember why we thought he was a [name]Mike[/name] except for that is how he looked. Also I have been mistakenly been called [name]Brenda[/name] since middle school on and off, my name is [name]Brandie[/name] which sounds nothing like [name]Brenda[/name] except for the B sound. I don’t know how one can look like a [name]Brenda[/name] but apparently I do, but I think my real name suites my appearance much better.
A girl in one of my classes swore I was a [name]Lindsay[/name]. Eventually nearly the whole class was calling me [name]Lindsay[/name] and they would always mess with the teacher about it (for some reason that particular teacher was not my biggest fan, which had never happened to me before in my life!!!)
On top of that, my name gets messed up ALL THE TIME!!! There is a on-going joke in my office because clients and random people always mistake my name. We started keeping a list of all the names… the count is up to 29! I’ve been called everything from [name]Kelsey[/name] and [name]Jessie[/name] (which is understandable) to [name]Shanti[/name], [name]Sheena[/name], [name]Gail[/name], [name]Chandler[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name] and [name]Celeste[/name]. [name]One[/name] time a man asked, “Did you say your name is [name]Chuckie[/name]??” Why would you even think that!
[name]Even[/name] at the eye doctor once the nurse called back [name]Stephanie[/name] instead of [name]Chelsea[/name] and my name was right there in front of her. At least I’m not one to get offended by those things, I think it’s so funny.
I get called [name]Caitlin[/name] all the time… definitely not my name. This past year at work, I’ve had a lot of students call me [name]Stephanie[/name], but I think that’s mostly because their previous English conversation teacher was named [name]Stephanie[/name] and not because they think I look like one (though I’ve never met her so maybe we look alike or something).
I have a friend named [name]Caitlin[/name] who I SWEAR, her name should be spelled [name]Kaitlyn[/name].
My cousin’s baby is named [name]Megan[/name]… she has big blue eyes and light brown hair, but that’s all I’ve got for you. I know Megans of all different looks, so it’s hard to say what a [name]Megan[/name]-look would be.
I’m [name]Stephanie[/name], I have dark hair & I’ve been told I look like a [name]Ashley[/name]! Most of the [name]Ashley[/name]'s I know have dark hair, so I can see where people get it from!! Interesting thread, by the way.
I was called [name]Melanie[/name] a lot by my French teacher, but that doesn’t constitute anything. She once yelled at a student, “[name]FRANK[/name]! YOU [name]DO[/name] NOT MAKE FUN OF OTHER CULTURES!” The boy’s name was [name]Jack[/name]
I’ve been told I look like an [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Jordan[/name]. I think I look like a [name]Madeline[/name]/[name]Maddie[/name] or a [name]Caroline[/name].
It’s not very often people tell me that I look like ____… but I have been told once that I could be a [name]Jenny[/name]. I had actually considered it when considering changing my name, but then I met a [name]Jenny[/name], and I really don’t want to be one after meeting her, lol. When I was revisiting the whole name-changing issue, I told a few friends I really liked [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], and [name]Hannah[/name] for me, and they all said that those four names would fit me really well. It’s not really like they came out and said, “You look like such a [name]Lillian[/name]!” though. Except I did ask one coworker what she would name me if I wasn’t [name]Ashley[/name], and she said [name]Lily[/name] straightaway, without even knowing [name]Lillian[/name] had been an option. So maybe I really look like a [name]Lillian[/name]/[name]Lily[/name], haha…
I’ve been told I look like a [name]Jessie[/name], [name]Laura[/name], [name]Molly[/name] and [name]Anya[/name]. I have brown hair past my waist and brown eyes, but my hair gets a red-auburn tint in the sun.
I’ve been told I’d make a perfect [name]Cassie[/name], and I agree. I’ve also heard [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Danielle[/name], and [name]Gabriella[/name].
Very cool thread! Although, I’m afraid I can’t add to it. Not once have I gotten that phrase :). However, I really feel like I don’t look like a [name]Kristi[/name].
