What are your favorite celestial names? I’m especially interested in those meaning “star” or related to stars.
Thanks!

Thanks!
I really love [name]Estelle[/name] and [name]Astrid[/name].
Esther and Seren (as a middle only) are my favorites
Secondary - Hespera, Vester, Sitara or Tara (in Sanskrit), Stella… I’m not a fan but Danica means evening star.
Names of stars - Vega, Lyra, Bellatrix, Carina, Cassopeia, Merope (one of the Pleiades), Alcyone/Halcyone (another one of the Pleiades)…
[name]Astraea[/name]
[name]Andromeda[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Aquila[/name]
Hespera
[name]Soraya[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]
Maristella
[name]Itzel[/name]
[name]Nova[/name]
[name]Sidra[/name]
Myrope
Related to stars:
[name]Aquila[/name] (constellation), [name]Altair[/name] (star in [name]Aquila[/name]), [name]Maia[/name], [name]Alcyone[/name] & [name]Meissa[/name] (stars in the Pleiades), [name]Orion[/name] (constellation), [name]Perseus[/name] (constellation), [name]Aries[/name] (constellation), [name]Electra[/name] & Pleione (stars in [name]Taurus[/name]), [name]Nashira[/name] (star in Capricornus), [name]Vega[/name] (star in [name]Lyra[/name]), [name]Lyra[/name] (constellation), [name]Castor[/name] (star in [name]Gemini[/name]), [name]Tariq[/name] (arabic for the morning star), Polaris (star in [name]Ursa[/name] [name]Minor[/name]), Lodestar (any leading star).
Meaning star:
[name]Astraea[/name], Stjerne, [name]Seren[/name], [name]Stella[/name], Sterre, [name]Estelle[/name], [name]Hester[/name], [name]Danica[/name], [name]Estrellita[/name] and Esteri
Wow, so many great ones already. I am seriously loving [name]Lyra[/name]. I take it it’s pronounced LEER-uh?
Usually, actually, LIE-ra. Like the instrument, the lyre.
btw do not believe nameberry’s definition of the Meso-American name [name]Itzel[/name]. The true meaning is fascinating and very complex, involving the moon, the stars, rainbows and a goddess in two separate cultures:
For that matter, don’t believe ANY of Nameberry’s meanings/origins without at least a second opinion.
Oh, I forgot about Hespera, my front runner for baby!
Some of my favourites:
Izarra - Basque for star.
[name]Esther[/name], and diminutives like [name]Estee[/name]. Not as fond of [name]Hester[/name], but it does tie interestingly into Hesper, which like [name]Vesper[/name] is tied to the evening star in Greek mythology. I like Hesperia, too.
[name]Ayelet[/name] - Hebrew for morning star. 3 syllables, not as in [name]Violet[/name].
[name]Lyra[/name] is very pretty but I am oddly partial to [name]Andromeda[/name].
[name]Andromeda[/name]
[name]Bellatrix[/name] - unfortunately the HP has rendered it unusable
[name]Galatea[/name]
I like several others for boys, as well.
Damn I guess was thinking of [name]Lyra[/name] being pronounced like lyric. I really don’t like it pronounced with the long I.
And don’t worry, I take all baby name meaning definitions with a grain of salt. I like Behind the Name. But I will say Nameberry seems to be more accurate than most baby name sites.
[name]Bellatrix[/name] has to be basically the most beautiful name ever ever but it was doubly ruined for me by the immense popularity of HP and the - to me - inexplicable popularity of Twilight, which caused what history will come to know as the [name]Bella[/name] Boom.
[name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Twyla[/name]
[name]Starr[/name]
[name]Starla[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Luna[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]
[name]Seren[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Maia[/name]
[name]Orion[/name]
[name]Perseus[/name]
I hear you! [name]Bellatrix[/name] was the one name I knew I would give a future daughter, but then came [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] and the Goblet of [name]Fire[/name] and I think it is doomed now. I love it still, a beautiful star with a beautiful meaning.
oh and [name]Rosalind[/name] is a pretty one!
[name]Do[/name] you, like, HAVE to pronounce [name]Lyra[/name] LIGH-ruh? 'Cause that is seriously bumming me out.
The only [name]Lyra[/name] I’ve ever met was Leer-a.
