Your favorite is everyone else's favorite šŸ˜±

[name_f]Imagine[/name_f] your most favorite name became #1 in popularity overnight! (Some sort of conspiracy/collusion of parents all naming their children at the same time I guessā€¦) Would you still want to use it if you were having a baby soon ?

Probably not, but really canā€™t imagine it for [name_f]Ermentrude[/name_f] haha

No, Iā€™m not nearly as bothered about popularity as I used to be but a name (probably fairly unusual, like most of my favourites) that rockets to #1 overnight seems like a red flag to me.

I canā€™t even imagine the heartbreak that would cause me :weary: Iā€™m already majorly struggling with the popularity of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] & [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]. I donā€™t know if Iā€™d still use my favourite. I think my pettiness wouldnā€™t let me, but Iā€™d probably regret it lol

If [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_m]William[/name_m] somehow skyrocketed all the way to number 1 I would be surprised. It wouldnā€™t really bother me since if I picked different names I would probably regret it later on. However, I could let them go by their middle names or use [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_m]Will[/name_m] as nicknames

Haha good point

I wouldnā€™t. I would be more likely to pick a name that has been popular for a while than one that is trending. Fast rising names fall and become dated just as quickly.

As a [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] born in the early 90s ā€“ I would have to give up the name. Expecting now and searching for baby girl names ā€“ so many of my long time favorites are popular now! I knew long ago I would have to give up [name_f]Emily[/name_f]! And now even [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is soaring up the charts.

Iā€™d give up the name. I have a favorite boy name ([name_m]Simon[/name_m]) and a favorite girl name ([name_f]Athena[/name_f]), but I also have ā€œsecond placeā€ names (rotates between a few based on the day, but right now those are [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]/Cassia) that are so close Iā€™d basically be equally content to use them. If I did have a favorite name by more than a slim margin? Honestly Iā€™d still probably give it up. I know enough people who donā€™t especially like having a mega-popular name that I wouldnā€™t want to do that to my child personally (even though obviously there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a popular nameā€” I mean, I named myself [name_m]Jack[/name_m]).

This^! I would be completely heartbroken, but having a top 10-50 name isnā€™t something I want either :confounded: Though I could maybee do a top 100 if itā€™s THE NAME

Is [name_f]Emily[/name_f] still super popular? I know a five year old [name_f]Emily[/name_f] but Iā€™ve not met another [name_f]Emily[/name_f] younger than college aged in years. Like I know itā€™s still high on the charts but I thought it was dropping? Genuinely curious and unsure.

I think itā€™s dropping now, but it was so popular for so long that I think it will still feel overused for a long while yet (at least for me!). If had a more uncommon first name I donā€™t think it would bother me so much. But Iā€™ve always hated that at school, college classes, even workplaces, thereā€™s always been at least one other [name_f]Lauren[/name_f].

I hear you. [name_f]My[/name_f] extended family has three [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]ā€™s and a [name_f]Laura[/name_f], this includes two brothers who both married [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]ā€™s with the same middle name AND maiden initial who BOTH took their husbandā€™s last nameā€¦ [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names, but I canā€™t even get myself behind [name_u]Laurel[/name_u] or [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] because ā€œLaurā€ names feel just soā€¦ done even though I love them all.

I have a similar struggle with all the [name_u]Alex[/name_u]- names.

It is dropping some but itā€™s still #12 in the US

Would I still use it? I donā€™t know. I generally donā€™t care about popularity outside of the Top 10 (because those are the only ones consistently common regardless of location). But No. 1 would be a tough blow! I would probably have to scrap it, though, honestly. [name_f]My[/name_f] top name is special to me, but I think it would lose its specialness if that many children shared it. So I would probably try to honor the same person with a different name, one I would hopefully fall just as in love with and that would feel just as special.

No, Iā€™d probably put it aside

Yup! I would still use it! [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is in my top 3, and it was number one up until this year! It doesnā€™t bother me at all

I think it depends as to how popular my name became if it entered the top 100 I wouldnā€™t be concerned but the top 10 I would be concerned as to why the name has become suddenly so popular I would be worried that the name would then date and be considered trendy which is something I dislike. So personally if [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] suddenly skyrocketed to number 1 I would be concerned and probably put off using the name. I think itā€™s only because [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] could look trendy whereas I feel if you went with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and that was number 1 they are solid classics therefore donā€™t look trendy.
