Popularity isn’t too much of a problem for me, especially because some of my long time favourites are in the top ten. I can’t get rid of them!

I absolutely detest how popular my boy names are ([name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]), but unfortunately, I can’t find any more I’m in love with for my potential future loves. I’m hoping my girl names don’t get any more popular than they are, but I can see them getting up there, sadly.

I wouldn’t use any name that becomes too popular. It just ruins the appeal of the name for me and it loses its shine if people perceive it as overused, maybe because I grew up hating that aspect of my name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it was the “perfect name”… well the “perfect name” for me wouldn’t be popular so that’s my response there.

That said, I actually like a lot of top 50 names. I starred the ones that I would use if they were less popular

Same! I’m much pickier with boy names, but if they end up getting even more popular I might still end up using as well.

I completely agree. The more I hear it, the less I love it. :sweat_smile: I know what you mean about it losing it’s shine.

For me it was the opposite growing up. I was the only [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and I felt left out. I wished I was named something more “normal” like [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] or [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]. However the older I got, the more I loved and appreciated my name. I guess that’s why now, popularity ends up being a factor for me! :laughing:

@sophia_elena I love [name_u]Willow[/name_u] as well! I just didn’t put it on my list because my family would most definitely butcher it.

@BookSneakersMovie [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] may still be contenders for me as well. Hopefully they get less and less popular, but I doubt :sweat_smile:

@anon68906791 @the.vintage.scribe I may still use a popular name also, most likely in the middle name spot, but if you love a name as a first, then why not? :blush:

Popularity definitely is a factor for me. I wouldn’t want my child to share a name with loads of other people as I think it makes the name less special. Also, people I know who have always been “[name_f]Megan[/name_f] LastName” have found it annoying and so I’d want to avoid that for my child’s sake. There are a lot of names I like that are higher up the charts, but I would likely just keep them in the middle spot.

I’d avoid using a name from the top 20 as a first name but I’d be happy using any of these as middle names. Some of my kids’ names are in the top 50. I would prefer that they weren’t but I like them too much to not consider using them unless they were top 20. I must admit I was worried about DS2’s being too popular but I always knew DS1’s was top 50 so wasn’t as bothered.
