Your Favourite Estonian Names

Estonian is a Finno-Ugric language spoken by some one million people in the small Northern European nation of Estonia. It’s related to Finnish and much more distantly to Hungarian. Due to its history of being conquered, it has plenty of Germanic and Russian loanwords.

This leads to some names being unrelated to anything in [name_f]English[/name_f] or any Indo-European language for that matter, like the girl’s name Tuule, which means wind and is related to the Finnish [name_f]Tuuli[/name_f] meaning the same. Others are quite recognisable, such as [name_m]Artur[/name_m], related to the [name_f]English[/name_f] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].

As the title question asks, what Estonian names have caught your eye?

[name_f]Aleksandra[/name_f], Laine and Mari!

My favourite Estonia names are [name_m]Kalev[/name_m], Aivar, Helve & Kadri.

Seconding [name_m]Kalev[/name_m], Helve, and Kadri!
