So I love these kinds of threads and there’s probably been one before but I thought it was a nice idea.
What is your favourite name ever? Male or female but only one. Like if you could only have one child, what would they be called?
For me [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. He would most likely be [name_m]Archibald[/name_m] but if I had a partner who really really hated [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], I’d go for [name_m]Archie[/name_m] because he still has [name_m]Arch[/name_m]. I just think it’s such a handsome name and I personally think it works on all ages but I do see it as a nickname so I’d prefer to use [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]. To me, [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is timeless
What about you guys? I’m looking forward to reading your answers!
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]. It’s been my #1 boy name for years - I like how it has the mythological/medieval connection, yet still feels fresh, plus doesn’t have any obvious nicknames (except for maybe [name_u]Tris[/name_u], but all the Tristans I’ve known of were just called [name_u]Tristan[/name_u]. I’m not a fan of nicknames being forced upon people) so it’s a winner.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. I remember sitting on the couch, thinking that I liked this name when I was five. I have no idea where I heard it. Sometimes I wonder if I really love it or if it’s something that I just kind of carried with me so long I only think I love it. But other names have come and gone, and this one has stayed firm, so
[name_f]Sarai[/name_f]! To me it’s perfect! I love how it looks, I love how it sounds, I like how it’s distinctive but grounded because it’s related to the familiar [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. I like how it’s pretty but not frilly, how it means princess but could have the nickname [name_u]Rai[/name_u]! It’s just my fave ever
Lol, nice name! I’ve never met another [name_f]Eryn[/name_f] on here.
OT: [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. I have always loved it. I love the nickname [name_f]Bella[/name_f], and my niece is called [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] and I love saying her name. It just makes me happy. Obviously, unusable for me, but I still love it.
It’s a Scandinavian name, which is the feminine form of [name_f]Elli[/name_f]ði, a ship name in medieval saga (meaning “fast-sailing ship” in Old Norse)
Pronounced “eh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-dah”
such a tough question for me, but if I could name only one child, it would be [name_u]Arlo[/name_u].
It was my parents’ choice for my sister, had she been a boy.
Dunno if that’s weird but I just associate my parents so strongly with that name but it isn’t their name so it’s the perfect honour name, especially since I’m not planning on using middle names.
I love the sound of it, the simplicity, that it’s usable in different languages. My love for this name runs so deep I not only don’t care the original meaning isn’t clear (literal meaning being one of the most important criteria for me normally), but actually find that fact quirky and appealing about the name.
might have to move away from Germany though, because the stupid law here would probably not allow it on a girl. We’ll see when the time comes I guess.
For now though there is nothing keeping me from naming hypothetical little Arlos (m/f/whatever)!
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
It’s been one of my favourites for years and I love how it feels strong and elegant at the same time. I love it’s meaning of life especially as my middle name is [name_f]Eve[/name_f] which also means life. I have had other favourites over the years but I keep coming back to this one. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f].
Probably [name_f]Honey[/name_f], as it’s been on my list forever, and I’ve never really turned away from it for any reason before. Second place would go to [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisie[/name_f].
Thats a tricky question!
Probably [name_f]Persephone[/name_f], which is the only name i have on my list ever since i join nameberry. Though its not my favourite atm, its the name i will most likely choose in the future.
I love you for asking this question, and I hate you for asking this question! Hmm… My indecision is gnawing at me, but for the moment I’d have to say it’s [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]. I love how upbeat, unique, and elegant it is, and I’m a huge lover of vowels, so it’s bliss.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]! It’s beautiful, it makes you think it might be [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] then gives you a lovely surprise. I’d call her [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] as a cute pet name, I love it paired with a long elegant middle name as [name_f]Olive[/name_f] is a forgotten victorian name. I love it and will be one of my daughters names if I’m blessed enough to have one!
For the past few years it’s been between [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f], but right now I have to say [name_f]Louisa[/name_f].
I love how it has a strong Old European vibe, means ‘warrior’ or ‘renowned warrior’, and can be shortened to [name_u]Lou[/name_u], Lusie, [name_f]Lulu[/name_f], and [name_f]Lula[/name_f].
My answer’s still [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]. Ignoring increasing popularity, he’s the perfect name. I love the sound, look, and feel. I just imagine [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] as such a positive person. A happy, playful little boy with endless energy and imagination. Plus the calm and strength of the nature/sea association and the magic and whimsy of the [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] connection. I’m reminded of watching the old [name_f]Narnia[/name_f] TV series with my mum when I was younger, so there’s meaning there too. I even love all the nn possibilities [name_m]Cas[/name_m], [name_m]Cap[/name_m], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], and [name_m]Kip[/name_m]. I can really imagine having a little [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], and I’ve never grown bored of him, even after 6 or so years.
[name_u]Sierra[/name_u]. I don’t care how dated it’ll sound in a few years, I’ll still go for it. My favorite boys name isn’t very usable ([name_m]Ludwig[/name_m]), so it’ll always be [name_u]Sierra[/name_u].
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]. I first read it in [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Eyre[/name_f] and I immediately liked it. The I watched The Duchess and now I love it even more.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]. It’s the first name I ever really fell in love with, and it’s always kind of stuck. It’s what I named the main character in the first book I ever wrote, so it definitely has a special significance to me.
Aside from my daughter’s name, my favourite is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. It’s been my favourite since I was little. I think it sounds so mysterious and magical and shimmery.
