Your guilty pleasure names

I like uncommon names with some history. Many names others consider GPs are on my usable list. So… Tell me your GP boy names please!

My unusual GPs for boys are (I also have GPs that are too popular):

[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m]
[name_m]Icarus[/name_m]
[name_f]Alchemy[/name_f]
Hemlock
Mordred

And some more unusual ones on my completely usable list. I love uncommon names too.

[name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m]
Skandar
Alberic
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_m]Artemus[/name_m]
[name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m]
Icarius
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m]
[name_m]Oswald[/name_m]
[name_m]Oswin[/name_m]
[name_u]Raleigh[/name_u] (Rah-lee, as in Sir [name_m]Walter[/name_m])
Iolaus (Ee-oh-lus) / Aeolus (Ay-oh-lus)
Varekai
Cadwr / Cador (Ca-do)

Thanks! I like [name_m]Icarus[/name_m] (but your right, probably not usable) and [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and love [name_m]Wolfgang[/name_m] and [name_m]Ptolemy[/name_m]. Those are both on my list but I can’t get DH onboard.

My GP boys names are [name_m]Jedi[/name_m] and Zefram. Sad I didn’t have a boy to use them.

For me, it’s [name_u]River[/name_u]. I kind of like it, but my name is [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and I have a son named [name_u]Rory[/name_u], so it would be too [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who!

[name_m]Anakin[/name_m], which I’m never gonna use for obvious reasons.

I agree with you, @little_billie. [name_m]Anakin[/name_m] for sure. Also:

[name_m]Jedi[/name_m]

[name_m]Bodhi[/name_m]

[name_u]Echo[/name_u]
[name_m]Finnick[/name_m]
[name_u]River[/name_u]

I’m tickled by the number of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars references here. Now, some boy names I love but can’t imagine myself actually using:

[name_u]Everest[/name_u]
[name_m]Rainier[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]

I share PP’s love for [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] and any [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] names. My husband is pretty conservative about first names, here are some he has vetoed for being too outlandish…

[name_m]Casimir[/name_m]
[name_m]Erastus[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] (he’s actually considering this one, but it doesn’t work with our sons’ names)
[name_u]Constantine[/name_u]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Augustine[/name_m]
[name_m]Alistair[/name_m]
[name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] (I love Scandal and wanted a little [name_m]Fitz[/name_m] for awhile - embarrassing, I know)
[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] (loved this for a bit, husband said it sounded like a**hole)
[name_m]Dieter[/name_m]
[name_m]Yarden[/name_m]
[name_m]Canaan[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Heathcliff[/name_m]

[name_u]Finch[/name_u]
[name_u]Rudy[/name_u]
Iskander
[name_m]Calix[/name_m]…

… and so many more, but I can’t remember them all now!

I’ve got a few.

[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]: Thanks to the Evil Dead series, I love [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] for a boy. Plus, the nickname [name_u]Ash[/name_u] has always sounded more masculine to me.

[name_m]Nash[/name_m]: Before I joined this site, I had no idea that [name_m]Nash[/name_m] was a legitimate given name and that it was only used as a nickname. I like it a lot, but it would take a certain kind of guy to pull it off.

Tuco: The only time I’ve ever heard this name is on the show Breaking Bad. It isn’t listed here or on behind the name, which makes me think it was made up for the show. Made up or not, I love the way it sounds.

@nomen: [name_m]Erastus[/name_m] is a great one!

These are the names that I would feel {somewhat} guilty bestowing on a child:

[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m]
Polycarp
[name_m]Boniface[/name_m]
Hippolytus
[name_f]Cricket[/name_f]
Angelus
[name_m]Lafayette[/name_m]
[name_m]Ransom[/name_m]
[name_m]Toulouse[/name_m]
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m]
Theophane
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
Siemion
Nightingale
Phaëthon
[name_m]Sigmund[/name_m]
Vladas
