My due date is Oct. 7th, so baby could come any time now! We don’t know the gender. I had a list, narrowed it down, was pretty well decided and now I don’t like any of the names. My husband is NOT being helpful. He just says “we’ll decide when we meet the baby” all nonchalant like. I want to have at least 2-3 names per gender to pick from once we “meet the baby.” Here’s what I am working with. Please give your honest opinion of each name and by all means, please give me some more ideas, as I am not super in love with any of these. I’ve been told by some that you just know the name when you hear it or read it, like thats the one! [name_u]Love[/name_u] at first sight! None of these have done that…and I worried baby is going to arrive and we’re going to be sleep deprived and not feeling creative. Thanks y’all!
Boy- [name_u]Claude[/name_u] is a much loved, family name.
[name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m] [name_m]Errol[/name_m]
[name_m]Zeb[/name_m]
[name_u]Gal[/name_u]- [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] is a family name.
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]
Like I said, none of these I am really in love with. Our last name is Sonne, pronounced Sawn-eee. So, no names ending in a eee sound, like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f],[name_u]Gary[/name_u], ect. I love old fashioned, classic, southern, not top 100 names. Thanks! I am feeling so irresponsible not having a name picked out! Everything else is ready for baby to arrive, but this…
Boys:
[name_u]Claude[/name_u]- very unusual, but cool!
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m]- I’ll be honest and say it’s a bit too old man sounding to me. I like [name_u]Claude[/name_u] better.
[name_m]Zeb[/name_m]- I really like [name_m]Zeb[/name_m]. Maybe you’d like [name_m]Zebediah[/name_m]?
Other suggestions (based on [name_m]Zeb[/name_m]):
[name_m]Jed[/name_m] ([name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m]), [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] ([name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]), [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] ([name_u]James[/name_u]) and [name_m]Dax[/name_m].
Girls:
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f]- like [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], I find this one sounds a little too old (then again, it sounds different to my eyes than it sounds to others’).
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]- beautiful name! Although you said you didn’t want top 100 names and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] ranks at 60, still, that shouldn’t stop you from using this name.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]- really sweet name.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] (to honor [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]; [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is very popular though), [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Dawn[/name_f], [name_u]Cedar[/name_u].
Maybe you’d like [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]? It would honor [name_u]Claude[/name_u] and [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] isn’t too popular.
smartie- thanks for your suggestions!
[name_m]Zebadiah[/name_m] was a top pick for a while, but it’s just seems too much of a mouthful and I really only had it on my list to get the nick name [name_m]Zeb[/name_m]. So, I thought why not just use [name_m]Zeb[/name_m]? I can’t think of a middle for it though…
I agree, I like [name_u]Claude[/name_u] better than [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], I just can’t get clydesdale horses out of my mind when I hear [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], not that horses are bad, just don’t want my son to be named after a horse. I don’t know…
[name_m]Jed[/name_m] and [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] are nice, but I’m [name_f]Jade[/name_f] and my hubs is [name_m]John[/name_m]. I think [name_m]John[/name_m],[name_f]Jade[/name_f], and [name_m]Jeb[/name_m] would be too many J’s in the house. I do like [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], but [name_m]Zeke[/name_m] and [name_m]Dax[/name_m] sound like pet names to me.
Yes, [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is an older name, that’s why I like it. I like the old-person vibe of [name_u]Claude[/name_u] and [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]. More timeless, less contemporary, I guess?
Yeah, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is popular, I know. That’s what’s holding me back from it. I really do want something more unique. And not a name that’s going to end up super popular. I like classic, but unique. Is that even possible? ha!
[name_f]Fern[/name_f] is so sweet!? Isn’t it? I love Charlottes’s web and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] just makes me smile. But, I feel like it’s kind of too much of a tom boy, not so pretty name. Like, I’d need to pair it with something delicate and pretty and feminine.
[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is popular and it actually was on the list, but hubs nixed it. The other nature names are a little too hippy for me, I prefer classic, southern, old fashioned. [name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Fern[/name_f], is on the verge of too nature-y for me…
Thanks again!
Cute names! I think I vote [name_u]Claude[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]/[name_m]Errol[/name_m] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. Or another middle name for [name_f]Fern[/name_f] like [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Imogene[/name_f]. It sounds to me you like [name_u]Claude[/name_u] and [name_f]Fern[/name_f] best–they’re very sweet choices!
I think you should keep [name_u]Claude[/name_u] as a first or middle name. Here are some ideas:
[name_u]Percy[/name_u]
[name_m]Bernard[/name_m]
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Willis[/name_m]
[name_u]Lee[/name_u]
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Forest[/name_m]

[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Clifford[/name_m]
[name_m]Gilbert[/name_m]
[name_u]Wallace[/name_u]
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m]
[name_m]Roland[/name_m]
[name_m]Travis[/name_m]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
[name_m]Bertram[/name_m]
[name_m]Foster[/name_m]
[name_m]Abram[/name_m]

[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Jewel[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Loretta[/name_f]
I feel like I may be going too old.
cactusgram and southermaple, thanks! I do like [name_f]Fern[/name_f], but don’t love it as a first name. Southern maple, not too old at all! That’s the direction I want to go, for sure. The older and more obscure the better. I do love [name_u]Claude[/name_u], it’s probably one of my favorites on my boys list, but I just can’t picture calling a baby [name_u]Claude[/name_u]. I know they wont stay a babe forever, but I just cant picture it…
Using the name hunter, I found a few more that I like, but am having a hard time putting them together with middles. I don’t think that the fact I haven’t been sleeping well is helping. It’s hard to get comfortable with a 40 week pregnant belly
Anyway, here’s some more.
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] (another family name)
[name_m]Irving[/name_m]
Would [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u]/[name_m]Zebadiah[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] be too out there? I feel like the combo somehow makes two classic names sound like a game show host or something…
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]?
Also, do you think [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is destined for the NN [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]?? I don’t really like that.
I really like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], it’s sweet. Sorry, but I am not sold on any of your boy names. I also find [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] too dusty. What about [name_u]Claude[/name_u]/[name_m]Clyde[/name_m] as a middle name for a boy?
And no names ending in the -ee sound…
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]/[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonore[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]/[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_m]Leonard[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
And please, don’t rush! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] may come any time soon but you do still have time, however short said time may be.
[name_f]EDIT[/name_f]: And to add to your question regarding [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], no. My cousin is called [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and she was just [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] until she, herself, decided to go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. No one else even thought to nickname her.
I also think [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] makes for a good middle name, like [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] that you suggested, for example. I don’t think it sounds like the name of a game show host, but I get why you think that! I also adore [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is lovely, it feels very The Beatles. I love that feel. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are lovely too, they feel like they belong to a country girl.
