Your Impressions Of These Character Names!

I’m currently in the beginning process of making new novel, what impression do you get from the character’s name:

[name]Mary[/name] Gomez-main character
[name]Emma[/name] [name]Knight[/name]-[name]Mary[/name]'s best friend
[name]Derek[/name] Hershey-[name]Mary[/name]'s love interest

They are all in their teens!

Brutally honest? They’re a bit forgettable.

I’m sorry didn’t specify enough, I mean what personalities do you see the character with based off their name!

[name]Mary[/name] Gomez - Behind the scenes kind of teen, not many friends, kind of dislikes life.

[name]Emma[/name] [name]Knight[/name] - Bubbly out going blonde, with lots of friends. Is only really [name]Mary[/name]'s friend because they’ve known each other since Kindergarten. Tries to bring her out of her shell.

[name]Derek[/name] Hershey - [name]Light[/name] brown hair, hazel eyes. Handsome, but in a quiet way. Has his group of friends, but isn’t exclusive to them. The guy that everyone knows on some level, but he’s not the popular kind. Has some sort of quiet passion.

I agree with east93 on all but [name]Derek[/name]. I think [name]Derek[/name] is the football player who has more depth to him than that.

Ooh, I can see that too.

Mix up the syllables a bit. They’re all 2-2. It’s boring.

I agree with east93. With the addition of a football player for [name]Derek[/name].

[name]Mary[/name] Gomez: Slightly Hispanic and quiet, with very dark eyes.
[name]Emma[/name] [name]Knight[/name]: [name]Long[/name] hair, bubbly and perky, with a great sense of humour but slightly sarcastic
[name]Derek[/name] Hershey: Sorry, but if you want brutal honesty, I think of the brand Hershey’s chocolate. I think [name]Derek[/name] [name]Hershel[/name] (or Hershall? [name]Hershell[/name]?) would be better.

Ok, if I change [name]Derek[/name] to [name]Josh[/name], then what personality to you get from [name]Josh[/name] Hershey?

[name]Josh[/name] Hershey - Slightly more athletic, but less interesting.

[name]Mary[/name] Gomez- Quiet with only [name]Emma[/name] as a friend. Has a mysterious yet quircky appeal that intrigues [name]Derek[/name]/[name]Josh[/name]. Very shy and bookish.

[name]Emma[/name] [name]Knight[/name]- Bubbly, vivacious, and sultry (compared to [name]Mary[/name].) Loud mouthed and opinionated. Probably a cheerleader.

[name]Derek[/name]/[name]Josh[/name] Hershey- No matter if you go with [name]Josh[/name] or [name]Derek[/name] he’s still sounds like the classic All-American-Boy with dirty blonde hair, hazel eyes, and a football scholarship in his future. Like @starshinemum, I think of Hershey’s cholcolate.

I think these names could use a bit of spunk (they’re all two syllables and a tad plain) but if you feel that they suit your characters then go for it.

  • [name]Athena[/name]

I agree on the Hershey chocolate referrence if I am to be totally honest.

[name]Mary[/name] Gomez - Hispanic, dark brown hair and brown eyes. Quiet, old-fashioned, simple and creative.
[name]Emma[/name] [name]Knight[/name] - Blonde hair, blue eyes. Talkative, out going and popular. Sarcastic.
[name]Derek[/name] Hershey - Besides the chocolate, I agree that he’s a football player.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Now I need help to improve their names, any suggestions are helpfull! The only one I’m not changing is [name]Mary[/name] Gomez, but I need help trying to figure out a full name for her! What I have so far is either [name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Estefania[/name] _______* [name]Mary[/name], or Marisopa!

*Need suggestions for first middle name!

What do you think if I changed [name]Emma[/name]'s last name to [name]Ward[/name]?

I think if you changed her last name to [name]Ward[/name] I’d get the same impression, I’d just get a more WASP-y vibe.
As for the name, I like [name]Mariposa[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] Gomez, nickname [name]Mary[/name].

  • [name]Athena[/name]

[name]Mary[/name] Gomez should stay as [name]Mary[/name], [name]Mariposa[/name] just makes it too much.

[name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is great.

[name]Emma[/name] [name]Ward[/name] is much better than [name]Emma[/name] [name]Knight[/name].

Thanks, I think that Ward fits better than Knight! I picture Emma, as eccentric, humble, plump, blonde, and has an obsession with duct tape and duct-tivies! Also Ward feels more humble and less flashy than Knight!

Also for Mary’s full name, Mariposa might be too frilly but it can still be used as a nickname! But I’m leaning towards using Estefania _____ Mary combo but I still need a name to fill in the blank!
