Your impressions, please?

A motley collection of rarieties I’ve recently discovered. I have been sort of hoarding them, I want honest uninvested reactions.

Rhoswen - Welsh, means “white/fair/blessed rose.” I can’t use [name]Rose[/name], but I can use other forms.

[name]Rosalba[/name] is another “white rose” name, this one Italian. There was a famous female painter in the 18th C. I admire named [name]Rosalba[/name].

[name]Rhonwen[/name] - Another Welsh one, this one means “fair hair” or “fair spear”

[name]Riona[/name] - Irish, “queen, queenly” probably related loosely to [name]Regina[/name] but more closely to Ríoghnach, which is a bit too hardcore Gaelic for where we are.

Rhosyn - [name]RO[/name]-seen, Welsh, “rose,” related to the Irish [name]Roisin[/name] but with less of an unfortunate resemblance to the word “raisin.”

Ixora - a kind of jasmine, a flowering tropical shrub.

[name]Izora[/name] - Charted in the US fairly regularly between 1880 and 1912, is thought by some to be a variant of [name]Isaura[/name] or [name]Isolde[/name] and by others to just be a Victorian elaboraton on [name]Flora[/name], [name]Dora[/name], [name]Cora[/name], etc. Its more whimsical, in some ways, I think? [name]Zora[/name] is itself a classic name in Eastern Europe.

[name]Izetta[/name] - An archaic form of [name]Isabella[/name]. It charted on the Social Security rankings in the 1880s, never more popular than the 800s, fell off altogether in 1924 never to be seen or heard from again. The recent Nameberry stuff on [name]Elizabelle[/name]/[name]Isabetta[/name] made me think of it.

[name]Iola[/name] - Raked over the coals for being dated, but it has a very current meaning of “violet” and a phonetic pronunciation. [name]Do[/name] you think it could come back?

Icesis, [name]Isis[/name] - I sort of loved this article on Icie/Icesis and it made me wonder if you considered this name usable? It has a rather beautiful sound to it to me, as well as an interesting history. Icesis has an almost fairytale quality to it, to me, like [name]Melisande[/name] or similar. The [name]Isis[/name] spelling, like [name]Iris[/name], is simple but feminine.

Are any of them attractive or usable to you? I haven’t tried to get them past my husband yet, collecting reactions now!

Rhoswen- I don’t like the sound of it but I can see the appeal.
[name]Rosalba[/name]- Oh this is just so BEAUTIFUL! I would love to meet a [name]Rosalba[/name]!
[name]Rhonwen[/name]- This one seems a bit on the masculine side. I prefer Rhoswen to this.
[name]Riona[/name]- This is nice. It’s a very mature sounding name though so I have trouble imagining it on a little girl or baby.
Rhosyn- Honestly it looks made up. It doesn’t look or sound the least bit Irish [name]IMO[/name]. Sorry.
Ixora- I really want to love it because I absolutely love [name]Jasmine[/name] but like Rhosyn it looks made up.
[name]Izora[/name]- Very pretty and unusual. I would love to meet someone named [name]Izora[/name]!
[name]Izetta[/name]- There is something about names that end with -etta that bug me.
[name]Iola[/name]- I think this one could definitely make a come back. Very pretty.
Icesis- I’m afraid it has the same problem as Rhosyn and Ixora.
[name]Isis[/name]- spelled like this it is pretty. But I just can’t get past all of the sssss sounds it makes. It just reminds me of snakes.

[name]Hope[/name] this helped somewhat!

It did, thanks! And you nailed my number one issue with Rhosyn, which is it LOOKS made up, to some extent.

Also, I fluffed my previous post with bad writing: it is related to [name]Roisin[/name], which is Irish, but Rhosyn is Welsh, hence the rh- thing Welsh loves so much. I thought it might actually be a little more phonetic to English speakers than [name]Roisin[/name], but [name]Roisin[/name] doesn’t look kreative so I’m torn.

Thanks again!

Rhoswen - one of my fav [name]Rose[/name] variations ([name]Rosetta[/name], Rosaluna, [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rosabelle[/name])

[name]Rosalba[/name] - my mother is CRAZY about this name, I like it

[name]Rhonwen[/name] - love

[name]Riona[/name] - its ok

Rhosyn - really dislike this one, does look made up

Ixora - dislike, also seems made up

[name]Izora[/name] - dislike, would prefer something like [name]Isolda[/name] or [name]Zelda[/name]

[name]Izetta[/name] - dislike, prefer something like [name]Arietta[/name]

[name]Iola[/name] - I can see this one working for someone

Icesis, [name]Isis[/name] - much prefer [name]Isis[/name], and [name]Isis[/name] is simply gorgeous

Rhoswen – This sounds like [name]Jozlyn[/name] to me, and looks like [name]Rhonda[/name]; not my style, but it’s not awful.

[name]Rosalba[/name] – I love the meaning more than the sound. “White rose!” Gorgeous, and the sound would grow on me. It is easy to say and spell, which is a plus.

[name]Rhonwen[/name] – I hear [name]Ronny[/name] and think boy…boy from the 80s.

[name]Riona[/name] – This has a very African-American sound to me. It would grow on me, but it’s not my style.

Rhosyn – I like [name]Roisin[/name] better! Actually, I like [name]Roisin[/name] a LOT. A similarity to raisin isn’t a bad thing. Raisins are sweet, ancient, and usually have cozy associations anyway! A Russian version of this name is [name]Raisa[/name]. Again, raisin. But again, I like it anyway.

Ixora – Not my style. I’m not loving the X.

[name]Izora[/name] – Now THIS is lovely, and my favorite on the list (and not because of its similarity to my username, which is a name I picked at random from an old cemetery). I like [name]Izora[/name] in full, and I like just [name]Zora[/name], and I just looked up [name]Zora[/name] and found [name]Zorah[/name], a Biblical place-name. All three are awesome.

[name]Izetta[/name] – This is just so cute! Pretty, but at the same time playful.

[name]Iola[/name] – [name]Love[/name] the -ola ending. Reminds me of a name that has been on my list for years–[name]Winola[/name].

Icesis – This does look made-up. But it IS a pretty sound and look. I’ve never looked twice at [name]Isis[/name], but THIS version caught my eye. I love the Ice- in it.

[name]Isis[/name] – See above.

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate all the different views and insights. I’ve been looking at the list long enough I don’t count as unbiased or fresh.

@cristinamariane: I love [name]Zelda[/name] and it is a bit of a family tree name (going back a ways) for me and it has a nice meaning… but my husband just hears “Nintendo.” Won’t go for it. Admits its cool, but he still thinks his friends will say he nerded out and named his baby after a videogame. sigh

lol You should tell him [name]Robin[/name] [name]Williams[/name] loved the game so much he named his daughter [name]Zelda[/name]. =)
