Pick one or two girl names and one or two boy names out of these
Girls (narrowed down to a few I think people might not like/might not be most people’s style):
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (ends in -lyn sound) [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u] (Muh-rye-uh)
I like all your names, and don’t intend to be mean, but my two least favourites would be [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u].
Amy [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] feels a little awkward and dated to me, and [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u] sounds like just… a guy. One of my friends’ brothers. It doesn’t connect to me, or seem particularly distinctive or namey.
Amy [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] seems a bit out of place. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] appears to be a more dated name while the other options are more timeless. This is the only combo I would exclude, but I do have some suggestions.
I don’t know why but [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f] is more visually appealing than [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] M.
There is something about the combo [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] that does not flow well. I think is the RET-FRED thing.
I LOVE the spelling [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] - so chic! However the [name_f]Maddy[/name_f] names are a bit overused these days… What about [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] (rhymes with “men”)?
I also have [name_u]Maria[/name_u] (Muh-rye-uh) as middle name for girls on my list!!! Great taste
Ok. All your boy names are P.E.R.F.E.C.T!
One minor change: I would swap [name_u]August[/name_u] with [name_u]George[/name_u] and vice-versa. [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] [name_u]George[/name_u] and [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] are more balanced combos in my opinion (unisex and masculine & common and different).
@rosepip, I totally agree with what you’re saying about [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u]. I switched it to [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m], still a bit boring, but I think it’s definitely better than what it was before.
@pindorama, I completely understand that [name_f]Amy[/name_f] is pretty dated, but I have to have it since it reminds me of [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_u]March[/name_u], one of my favorite book characters of all time. And I actually do have [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] on my list!
Favorite girls: [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
Least favorite girls: [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f]
Favorite boys: [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] and [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
Least favorite boys: [name_u]Julian[/name_u] [name_u]Paris[/name_u] and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m]
Elizabeth [name_f]Maud[/name_f]- I can’t stand [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Sorry! It’s just part of every other girl’s name, whether the first or middle, and has been for centuries. I feel like I was beyond bored of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] before I was born. Now [name_f]Maud[/name_f], I think is super fresh and smart, but I realize that’s not your first name style.
Theodore [name_u]Valentine[/name_u]- I find [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] to be helplessly dorky, and not in a good way. It’s a NB favorite that I just can’t get behind. I do love [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] as nicknames though!
Probably [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] for girls. I like [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] a lot, but not really with the “lyn” ending. I don’t mind [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], but on the whole this combo just doesn’t really work for me. Individually lovely names!
For boys it would be [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. I’m not super fond of either of the names in this combo. [name_m]Simon[/name_m] feels a little 2000s dated to me and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] has never appealed.
You have great taste though and quite a few of the other combos I really like!
I think you like solid classic names. I feel like [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] are not as classic and timeless as your other choices (regarding first names).
My favorites are [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m].
My personal least favourite is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f], simply because I don’t like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I feel it is a bit overdone, and it reminds me of a girl I knew in high school who was really mean! I love [name_f]Maud[/name_f] though.
My second least favourite would probably be [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f], because it’s a bit repetitive.
From your boys list, maybe [name_u]Julian[/name_u] [name_u]Paris[/name_u] because imo it’s a bit girly. They’re all very handsome overall! It’s hard to choose any that I really don’t like.
My least favourite of the girls is [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. I do like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], but I just don’t like the ‘H’ on the end! This comes down to personal taste/aesthetic, though. I agree with a previous commenter that the name feels out of place with the rest. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] feels a bit dated, whereas the others feel classical. Dated names are not bad, it just doesn’t seem to match the vibe you have going for the rest of your girls names. However if you aren’t too worried about your names being similar style (I personally don’t care at all, I just know some people do) then you can disregard the [name_f]Amy[/name_f] comment.
My least favourite of the boys is [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u]. I really dislike the name [name_m]William[/name_m] for personal reasons, but [name_u]George[/name_u] is lovely. I think your change to [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] was a great choice - I significantly prefer [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] over [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]George[/name_u]. Since that one is gone, my other least favourite would be [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] feels stuck in the past (sorry!) and [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is the name of an ex so I’m biased in a bad way.
Your names are nice, but if I had to lose two I would pick
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]—[name_f]Amy[/name_f]’s just too dated, and
probably [name_u]Julian[/name_u] [name_u]Paris[/name_u]—[name_u]Julian[/name_u] just seems a bit girly to me, although I know many people do like it.
Madeleine [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] are my least favorites. All the names on your boys’ list are amazing, but if I really have to pick one as my least favorite, I think I’m going to choose [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I love the name [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]!
The only one I’m not a big fan of is [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m]- only because I’ve never liked the name. However I do love [name_m]Simon[/name_m] I love all of the other names!
Love your combos! I like them all except for [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and [name_m]Philip[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. [name_f]Amy[/name_f] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m] are a little bit tired and too common for my liking, at least where I live.
Favorite girl: [name_f]Amy[/name_f] [name_f]Susannah[/name_f], I’m a big [name_f]Amy[/name_f] fan and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is lovely with it! [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] is also my favorite spelling of that name.
Least favorite girl: [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Maud[/name_f], the flow is great I’m just really not personally a fan of [name_f]Maud[/name_f] though I do really love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. It’s still not a bad combo by any means, the others just “do it” more for me.
Favorite boy: [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], I love a lot of the boy combos here but this one is just so classic and elegant! [name_m]Edgar[/name_m] is by far my favorite “[name_m]Ed[/name_m]” name and I’ve always loved [name_m]Thomas[/name_m].
Least favorite boy: [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u]— I’m sorry, I do think they go well together but I am just really not at all a fan of either name personally. That’s just a personal taste thing though, nothing inherently wrong with the names themselves. I think this is a totally usable combo though!
From the girl list, the only one that I don’t like is [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]. I just find [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] so pretentious & just too…evangelistic. Plus, every other little girl is called some sort of ‘Ev’ name. [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is not my style either, but it’s interesting. I don’t hate it as a mn.
From the boy list, the only name that I don’t care for is [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u]. I love [name_u]August[/name_u]! But [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] just sounds too feminine. I know that it’s technically a boy name, but [name_f]Bella[/name_f] is all girl to me.
