I have always loved my name ([name]Caroline[/name] [name]Grace[/name]) and wondered how other Berries felt about their given names. Did you ever wish your name was different growing up? I’m really curious!
Great thread! My name is [name]Ashley[/name] F@wn. (Yes, sorry, I’m the paranoid person.). I’ve never been a huge fan of [name]Ashley[/name]. I never hated it, but I don’t love it either. I love creativity and being unique (typical [name]Berry[/name],) so it’s always really bothered me that my name was so popular. I have known and currently know countless [name]Ashley[/name]'s of various spellings. A story I have told on here before: the girl in the office next to me is [name]Ashley[/name]. [name]One[/name] of my best friends growing up was an [name]Ashley[/name]. The teacher upstairs is [name]Ashley[/name]. In my husband’s extended family, there are 2 other [name]Ashley[/name]'s. On and on and on. I hate it. But I love my parents dearly, so I try not to complain out loud.
On the other hand, I’ve always LOVED my middle name. Why? Because I always felt it was creative and unique. And I guess it is. I’ve never actually met another [name]Fawn[/name] in the fn or mn spot. Whenever people find out my middle name, they always love it and compliment it. And I love that! Plus, F. is a bit of an interesting initial. There aren’t a lot of female F names, so often times when people see my middle initial, they will ask if it stands for [name]Frances[/name]. When I say no, then they’re interested in what it does stand for.
And that’s how I feel about my name in a nutshell. Thanks for letting me go on about it!
My name is [name]Alix[/name] [name]Louise[/name], I’ve had my share of “[name]Alexis[/name]” and what is it short for, your name is spelled wrong, boy or girl and your middle name is [name]Louis[/name]. However, I do love my name I’m very glad it is “just [name]Alix[/name]” and my middle is the middle of both grandmothers which I always found very cool considering one died when my dad was still a kid and the other when I was four.
Although when playing with my dolls as a kid, or games I always re-named myself with [name]Marie[/name] [name]Green[/name]. [name]Marie[/name] sounded pretty and was a “normal” name and green is my favorite color. =)
My name is [name]Shelly[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. I absolutely HATE my name. [name]Marie[/name]'s one of the most boring, overused, generic names in history, and I hate the name [name]Shelly[/name] too. I’m always called [name]Shelby[/name] instead (which I can’t stand [name]Shelby[/name] either), and being called [name]Shell[/name] makes me cringe. It doesn’t suit me either.
I don’t like my name, and plan on legally changing the whole enchilada. It’s very uncommon, I didn’t meet anyone with it until I was 16 and left the country, and even then the name was either said differently but spelled the same, or spelled differently but said the same.
It’s always misspelled, mispronounced, hard for people to remember/get right.
I definitely don’t enjoy it. I also don’t like the the first syllable of the same translates to the word “bad” in the most common of languages.
This is a great idea My name is [name]Isabella[/name], with no middle name, and I’ve never really liked it. I am older than almost every [name]Isabella[/name] I have met (so far there have been TWO that are older than me); I was born years before its popularity boom. As a little kid, I hated my name. I was always the only [name]Isabella[/name] in my school and felt really weird (my best friends were [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Emily[/name], go figure). I also have a four syllable, hyphenated last name, so I always felt that my name was much too long (still do). Now, [name]Isabella[/name] has gone from one extreme to the other, and I must admit I totally resent [name]Bella[/name] Swan from Twilight, as well as all the little 9 and under Isabellas, Bellas, and Ellas there are running around for “stealing” my name (I had it FIRST!). Actually, when I was little one of my best friends was named [name]Ella[/name], and everyone thought it was a strange name! I don’t really like sound of [name]Isabella[/name], either. I always thought it sounded really intentionally girly and pretentious, and trying too hard to sound Italian/Spanish. And it’s not very versatile; I briefly went through a tomboy phase when I would only wear boys’ clothes and play sports with boys all the time. Now how seriously would you take a tomboy whose name is [name]Isabella[/name], for God’s sake? Luckily, I’ve long since outgrown that and my looks now really suit the original image of what an [name]Isabella[/name] should look like, and now my nickname, [name]Izzy[/name], sounds a bit strange on me, so I’m on a search for a new one that is not [name]Bella[/name] or [name]Ella[/name]. I’m thinking about [name]Lina[/name], which I am already called by some of my family. Any ideas?
P.S. I’m sorry this turned into a bit of a rant…
I like the idea of [name]Isabella[/name] nn [name]Elle[/name], [name]Sable[/name], [name]Abby[/name], [name]Isla[/name] perhaps?, [name]Belle[/name]/Bells.
I like my name, [name]Catherine[/name], because it has so much history: as a child there were always plenty of heroines and historical Catherines around and from many different countries. The down side is that being born in 1973 I was one of FIVE [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Cathy[/name]/[name]Catharine[/name]/Kathryns in my class and one girl at school even had the same surname. Plus it is common but still needs to be spelled every time - the worst of both worlds.
When I wanted to change it as a teenager my top choices were: [name]Annette[/name], [name]Tracey[/name], [name]Perpetua[/name]
[name]Glad[/name] I stuck with [name]Catherine[/name]!
Well, I’m [name]Katherine[/name], called [name]Kate[/name]. I love [name]Kate[/name]. It is definitely the name version of me. I love that it’s classy, ageless, and strong. It’s a bit common, but that doesn’t bother me. I don’t identify so much with [name]Katherine[/name] since I have never been called that. It’s not my favorite name I guess.
My middle name is Br00ks. It’s a family surname, but I always hated it because it is a boys name and [name]Kate[/name] Br00ks does not flow at all, though it sounds ok with [name]Katherine[/name]. I’m making my peace with [name]Brooks[/name] now though. It’s interesting though because [name]Scott[/name] is another family surname that I would consider giving a girl as a middle name (a la [name]Kristin[/name] [name]Scott[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]), but I would be doing the same thing to her that my mom did to me and resented her for! [name]Ah[/name] well.
My name’s [name]Chelsea[/name]. For a while, until I was around 16, I really didn’t like it. I don’t know why, I just didn’t. In middle school, I would always change the spelling of it to make it look different. Looking back, that was really stupid! But now I do like my name. I was born in 1992, and according to the social security list, it was number 15 that year, but I really have not met many other Chelseas my age at all. I’ve met some girls that are a year or two older than me named [name]Chelsea[/name], but not really many that are my age. So even though my name was popular in my birth year, and in the few years before I was born, I still feel that it’s a kind of uncommon name.
My middle name is [name]Marie[/name]. I don’t mind it. It’s a little plain, but it goes with [name]Chelsea[/name], although saying the names together does sound a bit cutesy. My mom did say that she had a hard time finding a middle name, and in the end just went with [name]Marie[/name] because she thought it sounded good. My name could be way worse though, so I’m not complaining.
[name]Even[/name] though for a while I didn’t like my name, I do now, and I definitely wouldn’t change it. I can’t see myself as anything but [name]Chelsea[/name]!
It’s funny, I’ve always loved names, but never paid much thought to my own! It ([name]Amy[/name]) always seemed kind of boring to me, and I kind of thought it was seemed too “grown up” to me. I was born in 1990, and [name]Amy[/name] was at its peak in the mid 70s. All but one of the people named [name]Amy[/name] that I’d ever met were a lot older than me. I’ve started to appreciate it more now. I think it’s really pretty and simple, which is nice. I never have to explain pronunciation, and very rarely spelling (I’ve only gotten [name]Aimee[/name] from someone once or twice in my whole life) so that’s nice.
Well, my name’s [name]Alexis[/name]. I really didn’t like my name when I was younger (ages 8-12 we’ll say), I always wanted to be an [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Amanda[/name], etc. because those were the “cool girl” names haha. Strangely enough, [name]Alexis[/name] was HUGELY popular in the 90s and into the 2000s (and it still is), but I have only ever met a couple other Alexises! I like my name better now, and I think it suits me pretty well.
For some reason I cannot fathom though, people just CANNOT get my name right! It’s always been older adults, whether they’re reading my name off a list or after I repeat my name a couple times to them, it’s always, “[name]Alexa[/name]? [name]Alexia[/name]? [name]Alex[/name]?” I hate being called [name]Alex[/name] haha.

I have not always loved my name…Machion I could never find anything with my name on it…but I love it people love it. And no since the show The Walking dead is popular Michonne is the Character on there. And people reconize it and ask if i’m named after her? lol No i’m not she’s named after me
Mine is [name]Sabrina[/name], growing up in a world full of Jennifers and Jessicas I used to hate my name. I wanted to be [name]Samantha[/name]. But as I got older I learned to appreciate a not so common name, I’m always excited to meet another [name]Sabrina[/name].
I’m [name]Jamie[/name] [name]Lynne[/name]. I don’t dislike it. I went to school with a few other [name]Jamies[/name], but it was never confusing about which [name]Jamie[/name] people were talking to.
I love my middle name. It’s my aunt’s name and my mom’s best friend’s name so it’s nice to have that connection to women I admire.
My name is [name]Sydney[/name] [name]Paige[/name]. There are 7 generations of [name]Sydney[/name]/[name]Sidney[/name] ([name]Sy[/name] for females and [name]Si[/name] for males) and I am the 5th out of 8 now. I love my name, but would get frustrated that there was nothing with my name on it. Now it’s a bit more popular, I hear lots of moms yelling [name]Sydney[/name]! [name]Paige[/name] was never fully explained, but I’ve heard a few different explainations. Either way they just liked it. It flows well I think. I used to pretend my name was Sayword when I was little though. My cousins best friend was named that and I thought it was SOO cool
[name]Tara[/name] [name]Kristine[/name]. First, I’m only seventeen so every other [name]Tara[/name] I’ve seen or met has been a lot older than me. I remember when I was really little thinking my name was actually unique because I hadn’t met anybody else with it. Now I know that it was just an out-of-date name. I don’t mind it, mostly because I’m not sure anything else would fit me. [name]Kristine[/name] is my mother’s name, which I think is pretty cool. If I ever have a little girl, I want to name her [name]Kristabel[/name], so it’s kind of like passing down the name.
Oh hey, I’m [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Joy[/name]! haha.
I’ve always loved my name too. I think I went through a brief phase in 1st grade of wanting to be a [name]Kimberly[/name] (total 1990 cool girl name) and another brief phase a few years later of wanting to be a [name]Wisteria[/name] (where I got that, I have no idea) but overall, I loved being a [name]Caroline[/name] and always felt it suited me.
My name is [name]Cynthia[/name]. I was born in '83, well after [name]Cynthia[/name] peaked. I loved it growing up because it was so uncommon among my peers. Until I turned 18, I had only known one other [name]Cynthia[/name]. I might add that I live in a french community, so [name]Cynthia[/name] was never very popular here, not even in the 50s, 60s or 70s. I loved that it has history and meaning, as well as a feminine/distinctive sound. I don’t love it as much now that I realized that it is dated and that it used to be popular. I go by [name]Cindy[/name] most of the time anyways, which I don’t like at all! lol
