Ok so I am having my first baby… A girl in 2 months and am torn between two names. They are [name_u]Everly[/name_u] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. Her middle name will be [name_f]Anne[/name_f] and our last name is a normal two syllable name. Here are my thought on both:
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]- I love the way it sounds and flows with [name_f]Anne[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nickname [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. Wondering if it is a suitable “grown up” name and whether it will turn into one of those super trendy annoying names?
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]- just a beautiful name. I don’t like it as much with [name_f]Anne[/name_f] but can live with it. The name itself is a little fussy for me but in turn I absolutely adore the nicknames ([name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]) and we are a nickname family. Also it’s a great “grown up” name.
Please give any feedback or opinions I would greatly appreciate it!
Since this is your first baby, it’s important for you to think about what style you find the most attractive. Most of us like names from different styles but sometimes one style stands out from the rest. What you name your firstborn is often an indication of what style you’ll choose for any future children. What male names were on your list if it had been a boy? [name_f]Do[/name_f] those names go better with [name_u]Everly[/name_u] or [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]? Here are my opinions on your two female choices.
The beautiful [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] has chic [name_m]French[/name_m] flair, historical pedigree and a romantic elegance. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] has cuteness, trendiness and not much else. I always choose a name that stands the test of time so I would vote for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f].
I agree with pp. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] has so many nickname choices and [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is pretty but it seems to go with a lot of naming trends of today.
I personally think [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is one of those trendy made up names and I do not think it will age well. It does flow better with [name_f]Anne[/name_f] but I vote for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f].
I have to disagree with everyone and give one massive vote to [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. Its a gorgeous name, and I love the nicknames [name_u]Ever[/name_u] and [name_f]Evie[/name_f] (you could even stretch to [name_f]Eva[/name_f].) I can see how it is classed as a ‘trendy’ name, but along with [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], I think its one of those thats more acceptable (you’re not trying to call her Braxtynn, or [name_m]Skyden[/name_m] after all).
To me, I’ve never found [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] attractive. For starters I cant spell it. It makes me think of the dog that went missing in the [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] film. Its also just a bit outdated for my taste. Sorry!
I also think [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] flows much better than [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f]
Another vote for [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I’ve always loved this name and I think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] is absolutely perfect. It has a really vintage, regal style the I love. [name_u]Everly[/name_u], on the other hand, I find far to modern for me
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] by a long shot. It’s classic, beautiful, underused and has great nickname potential.
It’s a top contender for my bun in the oven, so obviously I love it.
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] is sweet and trendy, but that’s about it. It doesn’t have the same substance as [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. It always kind of sounded like an updated version of [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] to me. In all honesty I would prefer [name_f]Beverly[/name_f].
I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] sounds better in my opinion, but [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] has more nn options, and as I said I personally like it more than [name_u]Everly[/name_u].
I’d go w/[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]…while to my ear [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] sounds better, [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_u]Everly[/name_u]'s not going to age well. [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] doesn’t have as smooth a flow, but it’s way more classic & will age much better [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I don’t know if you want to play around w/variants of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], such as [name_f]Genoveva[/name_f] (Spanish version) or Genovefa (Celtic). I’ve seen the name spelled as Jenneveve on occasion, I think to get to the nn of [name_f]Jen[/name_f]/[name_f]Jenny[/name_f].
I really loathe the name [name_u]Everly[/name_u], sorry. It sounds permanently trendy.
I do love [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_f]Evadne[/name_f], [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], all of which also lead to the darling [name_f]Evie[/name_f].
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] sounds much nicer and more real to me. Personally, I prefer [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f], but [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] is still a good name. You’re right though - it doesn’t sound as good with [name_f]Anne[/name_f] in the middle. [name_f]Viveca[/name_f] is cool too ([name_f]Vivi[/name_f], possibly [name_f]Evie[/name_f]).
I would choose [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] because [name_u]Everly[/name_u] is way too popular, and I have only known one [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] my entire life.
You can also have all the nicknames you want with her since that’s important to you.(:
